Having Wives And Raising Children Levels Me Up
Chapter 49. The Courage That Comes With A 5% Dragon Power.
"Um, I feel like we should tell her, but then again, maybe we should give her some time to rest." The second elf suggested, and the first nodded in understanding.
"You’re right, but we could just tell Head Butler Cedric about...."
"That won’t be necessary, ladies. I’ll be handling it from here." Austin assured them with a wink before walking straight to Rowena’s study.
As nice as it would have been to have someone else inform the beautiful Countess of his recovery, Austin would be more than happy to do it himself.
After all, he wouldn’t want to miss the precious expression Rowena would make upon seeing him looking well and healthy again.
’Alright, let’s pay a visit to my beautiful friend before seeing the dragon lady.’ Austin muttered to himself as he planned to make a slight detour before reaching his final destination.
As a good friend to the beautiful Countess, it was better to say hello rather than simply pass by her room.
So this was the reason why Austin had decided to see Rowena first rather than the dragon lady.
It definitely had nothing to do with him still being a little nervous about his first true face-to-face encounter with a dragon.
Meanwhile, inside Rowena’s private study, the beautiful Countess could be seen looking stressed after a really exhausting day.
*Sighs* "What am I going to do about him, Cedric?" Rowena asked tiredly as she walked to the large window in her room.
Rowena was asking about a very irritating earl whose territory bordered hers, and things hadn’t been going well between the two of them in recent weeks.
"He’s truly becoming an annoying fellow, my lady. Perhaps it’s time we considered other options?"
"I understand your opinion, Cedric, but even the other nobles aren’t too different from him. Due to the rise of the stamina-enhancing potions, they feel they can charge us however they like because of the situation my territory is currently in. This excessive extortion is what I despise most about how greedily they think." Rowena uttered in annoyance at how most nobles in this kingdom all thought the same way.
Whenever a fellow noble found themselves in a difficult position and couldn’t get themselves out of it, the neighbouring nobles were ready to squeeze that particular noble dry until they were left with nothing to call their own.
This was the brutal mentality humans had toward each other.
It was a sickening behaviour Rowena had witnessed so many times, but so far she hadn’t seen anything like that in her one and only friend.
Ah yes, her hardworking friend was so different from any other human she had encountered before him.
Despite not being an elf, he had indirectly given her and her people something to look forward to.
His accomplishments hadn’t gone unnoticed among the elves either, with many of her kind urging Rowena to ensure her partnership with him lasted for a really long time.
He had truly brought smiles to the faces of her people, and that was why she really wanted to see him again.
It was a shame he was still unconscious, because if he weren’t, she would have been happy to speak to him as her friend and hear his honest opinion.
After all, he was the man who had not only discovered how to brew a 20% impurity-free stamina-enhancing potion, but had also managed to do the same for a healing potion.
And that was more than enough proof that Austin was truly a very intelligent and gifted person, so it would definitely be welcome to hear his opinion on matters relating to her territory.
*Sighs* Rowena sighed once again, knowing this would be impossible for now since Austin was still unconscious, and she couldn’t help but wish her friend could somehow sense her worry and sadness and just burst into her study to help lift her mood.
This was the honest thought that came to Rowena’s mind, but to her greatest surprise, her door suddenly burst open with her friend walking in wearing a smug look on his face.
"Hey, beautiful friend, miss me?" Austin asked as he spread his arms wide invitingly for Rowena to come give him a hug.
Meanwhile, Rowena was still shocked by what she was seeing, and she unwittingly called out to him in surprise, still finding it hard to believe he was standing right in front of her.
"Austin?"
"In the flesh, baby. Now come give your friend a hug. I’ve missed my friend so much." Austin urged her, and for a moment Rowena genuinely wanted to run over and hug him, because she had truly missed him these past five days. But just before she could, Rowena swiftly remembered that Cedric was also in the room with them.
Her happy and excited expression swiftly returned to her usual calm composure as she glanced toward Cedric, who was now pretending as though he wasn’t in the room.
*Ahem*
"Excuse me, my lady. I suddenly recall having something very important to attend to in the stables." Cedric awkwardly bowed and walked toward the door, pausing to nod at Austin with a smile on his face.
He was genuinely pleased to see Austin feeling healthy and well again, but most of all, he was glad to see someone bringing a smile to his Countess’s face.
"It’s nice to see you are in good health again, Sir Austin."
"It’s nice to see you too, Cedric."
Cedric smiled and bowed before leaving the room.
Noticing this, Austin grinned even more as he pulled his gaze back to Rowena, urging her to come closer.
"Come on, friend. Don’t you miss me? I miss my friend and I really want to hug her right now." Austin shamelessly declared, because now that he was a level four Conjurer with a really high power value and mana capacity, he was absolutely going to make use of the courage that came with having 5% of a dragon’s power within him.
