Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1268 - 1263: Heartless and Unfeeling
Having finished a plate of scrambled eggs with crab roe, Sophia Hamilton put down the chopsticks, took a napkin from the cabinet next to the hospital bed to wipe her mouth and hands, and said coldly, "I want to rest now, you can leave."
Evander Lancaster also finished eating, stood up, cleaned the table, put it down along with the hospital bed, then turned off the incandescent light and exited the room with a soft click of the wall lamp.
In the fire escape, Evander leaned against the wall smoking a cigarette, his eyes gazing vacantly at a certain spot, glancing at his watch from time to time. When the time was almost right, he flicked the cigarette into the designated trash bin and headed back down the corridor.
Sophia felt that she was truly heartless; her boyfriend broke up with her, yet she was still able to sleep soundly, even more so than usual.
Perhaps it’s because the hospital VIP room was warmer than home; even in her sleep, her lower abdomen and back felt warm, as if she were inside a giant heater.
At six in the morning, Evander’s biological clock woke him up on time.
He carefully lifted the quilt and got out of bed, taking care not to wake the sleeping woman.
He put on his clothes and shoes, walking quietly, opened the room door, and went out.
Seven-thirty, the official start time for hospital staff.
Evander waited early at the inpatient department to handle the discharge procedures.
He felt at ease only when his woman was under his own eye.
Sophia woke up close to eight, stretched her arms, moved her neck, feeling a little sore, as if she kept the same position all night.
After stretching, she opened her eyes and saw the apparition sitting on the couch.
Sophia’s arms were still partially extended, looking coldly at Evander as she asked, "Why are you here?"
Evander took a breath, stood up and approached, "Awake? Let’s have breakfast."
He nonchalantly raised the bed and opened the small table above.
"Hey! I’m talking to you, why are you here again?"
After setting up the small table, Evander glanced at Sophia calmly, without answering, turned to fetch porridge and side dishes, knowing well that if this stubborn little mule knew he slept here last night, she’d surely start another fuss.
So, he avoided the subject, placing the porridge and side dishes on the table, "Eat while it’s hot; it’ll be harmful if it gets cold."
Sophia chuckled, "I don’t need it!"
She’s completely recovered, able to walk and run; she had no interest in his porridge and side dishes.
She lifted the quilt and got off the bed, one foot just out when Evander quickly came over, crouched beside the bed, holding a slipper in one hand and grabbing her ankle with the other.
"Get lost, stop being so solicitous!" Sophia rudely shook him off, not even looking at Evander, and walked toward the bathroom in slippers.
Watching the bathroom door shut tight, Evander sighed, stood up, and moved toward the couch, when the sound of running water echoed from the bathroom.
Evander paused, turned his head and listened intently, confirming it was the sound of the shower before striding over.
He grabbed the bathroom door handle, turned it, but there was no response; Sophia had locked it from the inside.
With one hand on the handle, the other tapped on the door, "Sophia, bear with it; in your current condition, you shouldn’t be showering."
Inside, Sophia stood under the shower, bubbles on her head, glanced at the door, massaging her hair while muttering, "Is it your business? I like it."
Outside, hearing no response from Sophia, Evander tapped the door again, "Sophia, be good, you really shouldn’t be showering now, don’t catch a cold,"
"Evander Lancaster, unless I’m mistaken, we’ve already broken up, so in what capacity are you interfering!" Sophia’s voice came from inside, not particularly friendly.
Evander’s hand stopped mid-tap, narrowed his eyes, and said, "Sophia, between us, you have no initiative! I’ll say when we’re breaking up, if I say we’re not, you have to obediently stay by my side!"
Sophia...
Already washing her hair, shampoo bubbles running down one side of her face, she stood under the shower with one eye closed, disdainfully retorted through the door, "Who do you think you are? A god? Don’t think that just because you have a bit of money you can do whatever you want; let me tell you, I’ve had enough of your crap! Stop trying to intimidate me!"
Evander narrowed his eyes again, then coldly laughed, "Oh really? Then go ahead and try!"
Inside, Sophia scoffed likewise, thinking it’s a lawful society, what can he possibly do, kidnap her?
As it turns out, Sophia’s optimism was naive.
A man accomplished in his career, every single one of them has a strong personality, doesn’t he?
Once Sophia finished showering, dressed in the hospital gown, and stepped out of the bathroom, didn’t even have time to look around when suddenly a dark shadow flashed before her; both feet were off the ground.
A gasp escaped her lips as she found herself being carried out of the hospital room in Evander’s arms.
In the hallway, two white-coated medical staff stood by the room door, quickly covering Sophia with the hospital’s dedicated blanket as they saw Evander carry her out.
Indeed, the two medical staff were from Evander’s hospital, accompanying the ambulance to transfer Sophia.
"You bastard, put me down, where are you taking me!" In Evander’s arms, Sophia dared not struggle too much, not out of fear of falling, but worry for the child she nearly lost.
Originally determined to abort, she ended up pleading with the doctor to save it; although broken up, she wanted to keep the baby as a memento of this relationship.
"Where to? I told you, if I don’t allow it, you don’t have the right to say no!" Evander said through gritted teeth, he had his own methods with women, some need pampering and coaxing, others require a tough approach; the firecracker in his arms was the latter! 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
He couldn’t pamper her too much; he ought to dominate her like in the beginning, make her obey forcefully, then she’d have no complaints!
Facing such a domineering unreasonable man, Sophia felt a headache coming.
So many people watching in the elevator, she felt embarrassed.
It wasn’t until exiting the inpatient department doors, followed only by the two medical staff, that she spoke up, "Evander Lancaster, can’t you have some dignity, you told me to get lost, and I did, far away, so why are you still haunting me?"
"That was a moment of anger, I take it back!" Evander said, righteously.
Sophia...
Completely speechless; she’d never seen a man so shameless yet so uprightly brazen, and in front of his employees.
With a powerless sigh, she said, "Fine, but I remember it. I, Sophia Hamilton, may have no special abilities but I hold grudges, Evander Lancaster, you’ve hurt me, so I don’t want to tangle with you anymore, let’s break up."
"No way!" Evander said through gritted teeth, speaking they reached the ambulance, the medics opened the door, and he carried Sophia in, issuing a cold command after they got in, "Drive!"
