The Mafia King's Hacker Bride
Chapter 36: How Many Secrets Can One Girl Hide?
Leo stopped laughing for a moment, wearing a thoughtful smile as he said, "Alright, I get it, maybe this is a bit much for one day. What I meant was, if you check out the cabinet door, there are blood stains that look like they came from a gunshot. It seems like the intruders were packing heat, but I can’t figure out who was aiming at whom and who shot first. Both guys got hit, but Zeynep only has a small injury on her forehead. Am I right, Z?"
Zayden looked at Leo, mulling it over. "Maybe Zeynep grabbed the gun from the drawer when she saw them," he suggested, though his voice showed uncertainty.
"But that doesn’t make sense either," he went on. "She has no idea where I keep my guns and wouldn’t even know I had any. The only rifle she is aware of is this one," he said, pointing to the rifles hanging on the wall. "And rifles are useless without bullets; this one doesn’t have any."
Leo said, "Yeah, but what if the intruders had their own gun? Still, it makes me wonder, maybe Zeynep isn’t what we think she is. She could know how to handle a gun or disarm someone. It’s pretty common these days for girls to take martial arts. Still, it’s hard to believe she could take down two guys without getting shot. When she hit and shot both men, she got just a minor scratch. I’ll say only a scratch for her because both men were too much injured, I can sense from the blood what I saw on the leaves."
Zayden agreed, "For sure, it doesn’t make sense to me either. Her background is kind of mysterious; remember, she screamed something in her sleep, ’Don’t touch her, ’ and she defended herself in the forest, knocking a guy out. Now she’s involved in this situation where she shot two men but only has a minor bruise?"
He thought to himself without saying it out loud, "She doesn’t seem like just a regular girl; there’s something more going on with her, and I need to get to the bottom of it." Then he remembered the photo he found in the forest, pulled it out of his bag, and showed it to Leo.
"I found this by a tree. The face is ripped off, but one dimple and one eye are still visible. Look at her short hair, she looks like someone who’s into tech, especially with that laptop. Plus, it’s clear she’s a girl from her features."
Leo took the photo from Zayden and said, "We should try to recreate the picture. I mean, we need to draw what her face looks like and then figure out how to find her." He paused for a moment and asked, "Do you think she’s connected to Zeynep?"
Zayden replied, "That’s exactly what we need to find out."
Leo held up the torn cloth and the two strange devices he had pulled from his bag. "Check this out, Zayden," he said, sounding intrigued. "These don’t look like anything I’ve seen before. I found one in the forest and the other by the cabinet door," he pointed to it. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"First off, we should look for fingerprints. If we find any, I’ll head out tonight to our team to get a sketch of this girl," he said, motioning toward the ripped photograph. "We should also see if we can ID those guys from their fingerprints."
Zayden nodded. "Sounds like a solid plan. Let’s dive into the fingerprint search."
They got to work. Leo began searching for fingerprints inside the cabin, and Zayden stepped outside to check the door and the area around it for any clues. Just as he was about to head back in, he spotted a broken wire tangled up in the bushes. He bent down to pick it up and recognized it as the kind usually used for electrical devices that communicate with each other.
Excited by his find, he rushed back into the cabin and called out to Leo. "You’ve got to see this!" he said, holding the wire up for Leo to see.
Leo came over, raised an eyebrow, and took the wire from Zayden’s hands. "This is great! This could really help us out."
After handing the wire off to Leo, Zayden went to check on Zeynep. She was still lying there in the same position, completely still. It had been five hours, and she was still out cold. Her face was pale and tense, which made Zayden uneasy; normal people don’t look like that while they’re asleep.
He moved closer, gently touching her cheek with his hand. He caressed her skin softly, then took her hand to check her pulse. It was steady, which was a relief. Placing his hand on her forehead, where she had an injury, he noticed a slight movement. Her eyelids fluttered, which gave him hope that she was starting to wake up.
He was looking at her, smiling and playfully stroking her hand. The soft moonlight was filtering through the trees, creating a warm, cozy vibe around them. He couldn’t really explain it, but he suddenly felt this urge to protect her, something he hadn’t felt before. As he held her hand, it hit him that what he was feeling was more than just a crush; there was something deeper going on that had him both curious and a little confused.
Meanwhile, Leo was in the kitchen, sniffing around for clues. He noticed some fingerprints and couldn’t tell if they belonged to Zayden, Zeynep, or the intruders. He gathered up all the prints, hoping to get a clearer picture of who Zeynep really was.
Just then, Zayden walked in, looking a bit anxious. "Did you find any fingerprints?" he asked.
"Yeah, I’ve collected quite a few," Leo replied, glancing at the folder he was holding. "But it’s difficult to determine which ones belong to you, which are Zeynep’s, and which belong to the intruders. I’ll examine them all, especially Zeynep’s and the intruders’, to see what I can find. If those fingerprints aren’t from the intruders, I’ll check the devices these intruders left behind.
