The Mafia King's Hacker Bride
Chapter 76: Who the hell are you?
There was a list of names, some recognizable and others that gave him the creeps, along with tales of betrayals that went deeper than any knife wound. As he flipped through the pages, a heavy feeling settled in his gut. Alpha Dark had turned on him, spilling his secrets piece by piece to Karza, a rival he never saw coming. He thought that after he’d taken down Maksim Karza, he wouldn’t have to deal with him again. But now, here he was, scheming against him and sending a dead man back into the game.
Despite all the damning evidence in front of him, HK kept his face completely still; not a single muscle moved. After a moment of quiet contemplation, he slowly stood up, carefully placed the glass back on the table with a dull thud, and spoke to the empty space around him in a voice as solid as steel.
"Don’t call anyone. Arm me," he declared as if someone were in the room.

In a big, expensive estate just outside Manhattan, Alpha Dark was sitting at his stylish desk, the soft light from his data terminal highlighting his worried look. The deep red wine next to him was already more than half gone, showing how frustrated he was getting. Out of the blue, the terminal beeped three times urgently, shattering the heavy vibe in the room.
"TRACE FAILURE DETECTED"
"BREACH ATTEMPT IN LAST 48 HOURS: UNKNOWN ORIGIN"
He felt a wave of tension wash over him, his jaw tight as he read the alarming alerts on the screen. "Who the hell are you?" he quietly asked the shadows around him, acutely aware that an unseen threat was nearby.
Determined to figure this out, he summoned his temporary tech team, a group he usually avoided but felt he needed at this critical moment. When they arrived, their faces were serious, and they presented a jumbled mess of information: inactive IP addresses, bounce servers, fake identities, and random signatures, none of which made any sense or gave him comfort.
Frustration boiled inside him. Whoever had broken into their systems had somehow managed to get into Project HALO, exposing secrets that were meant to stay hidden.
With urgency driving him, he opened a secure communications file, knowing he needed to take action fast.
He shot a text to Selina that read, "I need every security log from Lucent. Every single detail. It’s obvious someone’s gotten through our defenses."
He paused briefly, his mind racing with what this breach could mean, then added, "And start a thorough check of our past activities. We need a complete online audit. If there’s any hint that someone on our team is connected to this breach, I want them in front of me right away. We can’t have any loose ends."

All of a sudden, her screen buzzed with a notification. She thought it might be a message from Hazard King, but that wasn’t the case. Instead, a GHOSTNET warning lit up in an eerie red, grabbing her attention immediately.
"WARNING: ALPHA DARK ALERTED. HE KNOWS SOMEONE IS DIGGING."
"WE CANNOT PROTECT YOU IF YOU’RE COMPROMISED."
A shiver ran down her spine at that message, but she knew now wasn’t the time to be afraid. It was already too late for that. With a quick movement, she shut down the alert, carefully wiped away every sign of her digital activity, and rerouted her IP to a dead node hiding deep in the middle of nowhere in Finland.
Once she felt a bit safer, she opened a new file on her encrypted drive, clearly marking it:
"War Phase: Incoming."
Her heart raced with adrenaline as she began scanning her surroundings. She checked every micro camera outside her building, making sure the feeds were working and hadn’t been messed with. She looked over the thermal images for any strange heat signatures and examined every shadow creeping around in the night.
He was out there, but she was determined not to get caught. Instead of being the one hunted, she decided she would flip the script and hunt him down instead.

HK stood in front of a massive vault, its surface marked with a complicated bloodprint that hinted at dangerous secrets. Without thinking twice, he placed his palm against the cold metal. After a brief moment, he heard a soft click, and the vault door swung open, revealing what lay inside.
Inside, he discovered a sleek black case, its exterior smooth and shiny, radiating mystery. As he popped it open, a surge of excitement raced through him. Inside were three important items that brought back memories he’d buried deep:
- A folded piece of paper, its edges brown from age, contained Alpha Dark’s real first name, hastily scrawled in messy handwriting that hinted at a long-ago time.
- A rusty bullet, dull and neglected, stood as a reminder of past violence, telling a story of a promise made and the chaos that followed. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
- A lock of Selina’s childhood hair, tied with a worn ribbon, brought back bittersweet memories of innocence lost.
He looked at the items, and an old memory flickered in his mind, a ghost of what used to be.
"I made you once," he said softly to the shadows in his thoughts. "Now I’m going to unmake you. I thought you were dead, but here you are again, in disguise, trying to ruin me? again? I killed you with my own hands. Now, in this next chance, I’ll finish the job and make sure you stay dead for good."
Feeling a renewed sense of determination, he stepped away from the vault, his jacket flowing dramatically as he headed into the dimly lit hall. The King was on the move, driven by a dark goal, and the air was thick with the tension of an upcoming showdown. Someone was about to bleed, and he was determined that it wouldn’t be him.
But who knows what will happen next? Who will be killed? Who will survive? Who will chase? Who will run? Who is the hunter, and who will be hunted?
