Chapter 43: "Good girl."

After washing up in the bathroom, Leon came out and quickly got dressed. Although it was weird since Thyra had her gaze on him all the time, he felt glad that he had no reason to be stark naked.

Buttoning the shirt and leaving only one part unbuttoned at the top, he finally turned to her.

"I’ve been meaning to ask, but you did something to miraculously heal my injuries here, right?"

He touched his chest that had been hit by the destructive force of the gorilla’s fist.

"Hm~? Oh, right. I did use a strange plant I found in the area, but unfortunately, I don’t know it’s name." She answered casually, already munching on one of her red apples again.

Leon’s eyes widened faintly. "A plant? Really? Can you draw how it looks like?"

"Draw? Hm, alright."

He quickly rummaged through the room and found a pen and a paper. Although he wasn’t sure he could recognize a plant just from a sketch, it was worth a shot.

When Thyra was done drawing, Leon deadpanned.

"Huh... this is a stickman drawing. I can’t even recognize it like this."

Thyra rolled her eyes and pushed the paper to him.

"Pardon my poor drawing skills, but I didn’t attend a good school like your... Clinton University."

He sighed, picked up the paper and stared hard. "It’s Clifford University."

"Yeah. Right."

Leon facepalmed, then turned to her. "Can you at least describe it? How long were the leaves and how long was the stem or something?"

Throwing the last piece of apple into her mouth, she chewed and answered.

"Hmm, let’s see... I don’t think it has a stem. Its leaves are thick and thorny, and they seem to grow from inside each other."

Leon’s eyes narrowed, and he began connecting the dots.

Thyra had never seen him so focused on something like this, but she understood. That plant had great healing abilities, capable of bringing back his mangled ribs to a slightly bearable state in mere hours.

It was definitely better than what Fel’s ability could do.

That girl still needed a large amount of mana reserves to be able to see the full potential of her ability.

"It’s either a cactus plant, or an aloe vera."

Leon said as he raised his head. He wasn’t sure yet, but he was determined to be on the lookout.

"Wait. Why don’t you take me there? Where you saw the plant?"

Thyra shook her head. "I’m sorry, but I can’t. I’ve already given you enough hint. I don’t want to test the wrath of the Star Stream."

Leon clicked his tongue, frowning in displeasure. "Tsk. I kinda dislike this Star Stream now."

He waved his hand and straightened himself.

"It’s alright. I’ll be on the lookout for those two plants. When I see them and ask you, you can surely tell me, right?"

Thyra nodded, smiling faintly.

Leon admired her smile for a moment, then smiled back.

"Alright. Let’s go."

He grabbed his sheathed greatsword and hung it around his shoulder, then stepped out of the room with Thyra.

"Good morning, Boss."

He found Cassie standing right outside his door, which made him worried.

"Did you even sleep last night?"

The girl shook her head, causing him to sigh.

"Haa... I’m fully healed now—I think. So you don’t have to stay here again. Okay?"

Cassie’s eyes went to his left hand, seeing that it didn’t hang stiffly. Instead, it looked fine and healthy.

"Alright, boss."

Leon smiled and ruffled her hair. "Good girl."

Then he walked away.

Cassie remained frozen on the spot, then quietly lowered her head to hide her expression.

Beside Leon, Thyra mused. "Are you treating her as a good dog, now~?"

He shot her a glare and replied in a low voice. "I’m not treating her like a dog. That’s how I praise my sister and she loves it."

"Oh?" Thyra raised a brow, smiling faintly. ’Heh, your sister doesn’t seem to be an innocent girl anymore, Leon.’

As Leon stepped into the basketball court, he was met with the sight of breakfast being shared.

He went to the kitchen to see the progress of the chefs on the mutated cat, and he was surprised.

He didn’t see the cat anymore. All he saw was fried meat, roasted meat, boiled meat, and fresh, uncooked meat.

Marie walked over to him and explained.

"They already dissected everything and prepared it in different conditions you might want. Although I ensured no one ate of it, the taste would definitely be normal."

Leon nodded, then picked up one of the fried meat with a fork.

Under the woman’s gaze, he took a bite.

His eyes widened faintly, and he nodded. "Tastes good. Very good."

Marie smiled. "I’m glad you like it. And does that mean mutated beast meat is safe?"

He nodded, then took two extra jerky to be placed on his breakfast.

Carrying the tray in his hand, he walked out of the bathroom and sat at his usual corner, away from everyone.

Only when there were important matters to be discussed would he sit at the main table.

The others were used to this too, so nobody bothered him. Once everyone was done with breakfast, work began.

Samson and his team of engineers went outside and began to turn the chitinous metals they took yesterday into a flat shape. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Only then did they begin to apply them to the buses, creating an outer shell for the vehicles.

Leon and his squad stood outside with them to protect them and also grind with the zombies or mutated beasts that were drawn close by the sound.

By noon, the first bus had been completely covered in a later of durable black armor. When they all observed it, they were amazed.

Feeling motivated, the group immediately got to work with the second bus, flattening the chitin and applying it to the body of the bus.

Some distance away, Leon asked Fel to cancel her ability when he didn’t feel his hand get itchy again. He rolled the hand a few times, then smiled.

’It has completely healed.’

He unconsciously raised a hand and ruffled her hair.

"Good girl."

Fel stared at his smile for a few seconds, then nodded. "Hm."

That was when Leon noticed Reymond coming out of the field house with Selene, all geared up.
