233 Ch. 233 Second Chance

Stanley massaged his forehead, hearing his son’s explanation. He had no idea that Anxia’s parents were still alive somewhere, and no one knew whether those holding them were enemies or just strangers who had coincidentally bumped into them.

“Then what are your plans after this?”

“Act like I don’t understand why Anxia left me, and I’m hoping you can take care of Lori.”

“That’s without a doubt I will protect her. But I want to tell you one thing, Anxia came to our home with many thugs two nights ago.”

“…”

“You know this?”

Richard shook his head. “Did she set off Rossie’s defense system alarm?”

“No. She didn’t come in and got back in the car after getting into a fight with one of the group.”

Richard couldn’t hide his proud smile at this news. He knew Anxia had wholly accepted him, but he had no idea that Anxia had also considered his family. He tried to raise an arm that couldn’t hold on for a few seconds and fell to his side.

.....

“Looks like I need some practice to move my muscles.”

“How reckless!” was a snide comment from his father that made Richard wince.

“Yes, yes. Feel free to sneer at me as you please, dad. But… Thank you for coming.”

Stanley sighed and then walked out to let the doctor give medicine so that Richard’s condition would recover as before.

In the meantime, Anxia, sitting relaxed on her balcony enjoying fresh cold juice, noticed her LMYT bracelet shining with a pink light.

A sweet smile etched on her face seeing the light.

Ah, finally, her husband is awake. Anxia couldn’t wait to meet her husband and go home with him. Before this, she hesitated to go home because her mother and father were still there.

But now that she saw her mother’s gesture had significantly changed, Anxia didn’t feel guilty if she acted rebelliously and left the older woman. But she did not want to leave her father alone.

But… she doubted that her mother would let her take her father away while her father’s body condition did not allow him to move.

Anxia could only take a deep breath and wait for her husband’s arrival to discuss her father’s matters.

“Miss Anxia,”

For the umpteenth time, Anxia sighed heavily as she closed her eyes tiredly. She had guessed the purpose of a maid calling her before even listening to the next sentence.

“The madam wishes to see you.”

Even though Anxia was reluctant to see her mother, Anxia forced herself to walk and meet her mother even though she knew that the conversation between them would not go well.

Just as Anxia arrived at her mother’s private room, Loraine Shu didn’t mince words and expressed what she wanted from her daughter.

“Xiao Xia, we don’t have much time left. Tell me the contents of Hawk-Eye’s data.”

“…” Again? Hawk-Eye? Why did her mother ask something she didn’t know? “Didn’t you say Hawk-Eye was a program? Why are you now asking about the data?”

“Yes. Hawk-Eye is indeed a program, but someone managed to hack into it and store the contents of the data into a chip. I heard you are holding the chip because master Yu entrusted you with keeping it.”

“…” A chip?

‘Someone else is after the chip.’ That was what Wang Xuemin told her after killing Master Yu’s henchmen. She had no idea that her mother would want it too!

“I’ve thrown the chip into the middle of the ocean.”

“But you’ve memorized it in your brain.”

“Mom… you think I’m a robot? I am also an ordinary human. Ever since I decided to get out of the underworld, I no longer thought about the chip. Now I have forgotten everything, and I don’t remember it.” Anxia’s eyes shone unwaveringly and steadily as she said this.

Loraine Shu looked at her daughter with a probing gaze to find out if she was lying. After eyeing her daughter for many years, she recognized her daughter’s capability. Starting from the ability to fight, act and spit lies so smoothly.

And now, Loraine couldn’t tell whether her daughter was lying to her, but she couldn’t force her and directly accused her carelessly. Not to mention, the relationship between them started to crack, and Anxia no longer looked at her as a mother. Loraine needed to mend their bond quickly, but her pride wouldn’t allow her to apologize.

“If you say so. Come here; I want to have lunch with you.”

Anxia didn’t move closer even though her mother had already headed to a round table where Chinese dishes were already set there, along with fragrant tea.

“Xiao Xia, I know our relationship has become distant because we rarely communicate. I want to be closer to my daughter and hope you feel the same way.”

“No. I no longer want to be close to you.” Anxia replied coldly without filtering her words, leaving Loraine speechless.

“Xiao Xia,” Loraine took her daughter’s hand in hers and spoke in a coaxing voice. “Don’t be like that. I know you still value me. Otherwise, you would not have chosen to leave your husband there.”

That is not true. Anxia was willing to leave Richard only because her husband suggested she go. If the man didn’t say anything or told her not to leave, Anxia wouldn’t go.

In the end, Anxia let Loraine pull her hand, and they had lunch with Loraine, who kept talking about trivial things like her love of seeing flowers and turning the back garden into a garden of rare flowers. Or when Loraine lived in this place and fell in love with this mansion the first time her eyes saw the sights of this island.

From the outside, Anxia looked indifferent and didn’t care about her mother’s stories, but her ears listened to her mother’s every word for the first time.

Why didn’t they talk about trivial things like this from the start? Isn’t the order wholly reversed? Anxia thought silently.

Is it possible that their long separation has made the mother stiff, and she doesn’t know how to act towards her child? Maybe that’s why now her mother is trying to mend their relationship.

Because of that, Anxia gave her mother this opportunity and let her approach her. After all, nobody was perfect, and everyone deserved a second chance.
