269 Ch. 269 Elliot Blamed Himself

Richard led Elliot back to the bed and then sat beside the boy after wiping away the rest of his son’s tears. He unbuttoned his son’s pajama collar, and his jaw tightened as he saw the bruises on his son’s neck.

Richard recalled his fight with the man with the scarred face. He learned from his interaction that Deke Shu was indeed his wife’s grandfather and Elliot was the older man’s heir.

Then, where is Deke Shu now? If that sly old man truly treasured his grandson to the point of willingly giving all of his power over to Elliot, that person should be here and protect his great-grandson from the likes of Song Lei.

“Papa ... papa, it’s hurt.” Elliot’s words stirred his thoughts, and he let a tiny hand touch his now slightly swollen cheek. When he was fighting Song Lei, a few of Song Lei’s punches hit his face causing a purple-blue bruise.

“Who hit you?”

“Don’t worry. I won the fight.”

If only Anxia were there, she would surely slap Richard again, given the father had taught his son about fighting.

“You won?” the twinkling look evident in Elliot’s eyes made Richard chuckle.

“That’s why you don’t need to worry about anything and never be afraid of that person. I’ve beaten him, so I’m sure he won’t dare to come at you.”

.....

Elliot smiled happily and rested his palms on his father’s thighs.

“Papa… do you have to go now?”

“No. I’ll go after you sleep.”

“Promise?”

“Promise. Now go to sleep.”

“En.” Elliot complied and lay down enthusiastically. He didn’t stop smiling when his father covered him with a thick blanket. Elliot wanted to look at his father’s face a little longer because he knew Richard would leave once he fell asleep. But the gentle caress on the top of his head made his eyelids feel heavy.

He didn’t know when his eyes started to close, but he heard a voice in his ear.

‘I told you, I’m always watching over you even though I’m not by your side. Sorry, I came late. I promise this won’t happen again.’

The voice was so soft it was barely audible that Elliot thought what he heard was a dream. He also dreamed of someone kissing his forehead, and suddenly, his dream was interrupted by a ray of sunshine sneaking in from behind his window.

Elliot blinked his eyes repeatedly, and his heart felt sad instantly when he didn’t find his father. But his sadness didn’t last long, considering that his mother would come to his room. But before that, he wanted to see Mei Yin and Jamie to see if they were both okay.

When Elliot walked out, the nanny stood outside to greet him in front of his room.

“Good morning Xiao Guang. Do you sleep well?”

Elliot swallowed hard as he didn’t expect the nanny to come to his room so early in the morning. “It was... quite peaceful.” Elliot decided to answer the nanny’s question.

“That’s good because you probably won’t be able to sleep well after this.”

“What do you mean?” Elliot asked in a voice so low it was almost a whisper.

“Oh, my poor thing. You don’t know what happened to Mei Yin and Jamie?”

Elliot’s black eyes widened, and a pool of tears began to appear in their place.

“Wh… What happened?”

“They are hurt, and I’m afraid they can’t get up for a while.”

“Why… What happen?” Elliot could barely contain his tears, seeing the nanny’s indifferent look.

“It’s all your fault.”

Elliot was walking backward without realizing it as the nanny lowered her head and looked at him accusingly.

“It’s all because you don’t want to stay with your lonely grandmother. You intend to leave her so your grandmother will have no choice but to punish the people who made you want to leave this place.”

“No… no.” Elliot’s brain function suddenly stopped working, and inside his mind, he blamed himself.

If he disapproved of his mother and insisted on staying here, Jamie and Mei Yin would not be hurt.

It’s all his fault―this was all because he didn’t want to stay and cooperate with his mother against his grandmother.

Nanny straightened up again, seeing the expression filled with guilt at the little boy. Then she waved toward the end of the corridor as if calling someone.

The next second, a group of people entered Elliot’s room to install bugs in every corner of Elliot’s room. Meanwhile, that child… couldn’t do anything to prevent it, and he still didn’t budge in his place because he was too wrapped up in his guilt.

After ensuring that the bugging device installed in Elliot’s room was functioning properly, the nanny and the people left Elliot alone.

The boy walked silently to his wardrobe, changed into neat clothes, and took a scarf to cover his neck. He knew his mother would be here soon, and he didn’t want her to blame him, too, when Anxia saw his neck wound.

At this moment, Elliot was afraid that his mother would blame him, too, though he had no idea why his mother would blame him. Elliot’s mind was too chaotic to think straight. He thought that everyone he loved would leave him and resented him for not being able to protect the two people he loved.

After this… maybe Mei Yin and Jamie wouldn’t dare go against his grandmother, and now… Elliot would be alone in this place.

And now, no matter how hard he prayed that his mother wouldn’t force him to get up, Anxia didn’t give up and settled him on his lap. Elliot didn’t even have the strength to stop his mother from removing his scarf and seeing the bruises on his neck.

The moment Elliot felt his mother’s body suddenly tensing up, he knew… his mother was angry.

“Sorry… I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.” Elliot was too afraid that his mother would hate him, so he decided to apologize first.

On the other hand, Anxia was at a loss for words after hearing her son’s apologies and the child’s sobs.

Why does Elliot even apologize and blame himself??
