Chapter 198 -198: Want a Divorce

“I asked Old Bai to take a look,” Gu Cheng said.

Li Zhen’s voice carried a sobbing tone, yet she firmly responded, “Ah Cheng, there’s really no need. My daughter has already been taken for stomach washing. Old Bai coming over won’t be of any help; there’s no need to waste his time. I can manage here by myself.”

Gu Cheng asked, “Which hospital?”

“The Second Hospital, the one near my home.”

Gu Cheng hung up the phone.

He didn’t want to go anymore, yet he couldn’t focus on his work. His mind was filled with thoughts of that adorable mixed-race girl with big eyes, always quiet, occasionally smiling at people.

He eventually shut down his computer and had his driver take him to the hospital.

He just wanted to see if there was anything the mother and daughter needed and help if he could.

Second Hospital.

Gu Cheng rushed to the gastroenterology department and saw Li Zhen at the door of the stomach washing room.

It was autumn now, and she was wearing a loose overcoat. Her skinny figure was wrapped inside, making her look frail and pitiful.

Li Zhen, who had been sitting on a stool worrying alone, suddenly became excited upon seeing Gu Cheng, then walked over and hugged him, tears sliding down at that moment.

“Brother Cheng, thank you for coming.”

Gu Cheng subtly pushed her away and asked again, “How’s the child?”

“She is undergoing stomach washing.”

As soon as she finished speaking, the child was wheeled out.

The little girl was pale, clearly in discomfort, but she neither cried nor made any fuss, seemingly unable to express her emotions.

Li Zhen couldn’t help but hug her.

She just lay in Li Zhen’s arms without making a sound.

The doctor instructed, “The stomach has been cleaned. Make sure to keep medicines out of reach of children at home, and she must be hospitalized for observation. She can’t be discharged until the day after tomorrow at the earliest.”

“Okay, doctor. Understood,” Li Zhen replied, then went to handle the hospital admission paperwork.

Seeing this, Gu Cheng quickly said to her, “Let me do it. You just hold the child.”

At the payment counter, the clerk addressed Gu Cheng, “Father of the child, please pay a deposit of 2,000 yuan first.”

Gu Cheng didn’t bother to correct her; he felt it was unnecessary.

Hearing this from behind, however, stirred a storm inside Li Zhen’s heart.

If she hadn’t been foolish back then, she and he might have already been a family of three or perhaps even more.

Unbeknownst to them, someone was watching them from a distance.

Zhou Yuan was here for a prenatal checkup.

Gu Cheng hadn’t agreed to her previous request to keep distance from Li Zhen, so she didn’t tell him about her pregnancy and chose a hospital farther away for the checkup.

Unexpectedly, she ran into her husband and another woman.

It was Sunday, Gu Cheng had clearly said he was working overtime at the office.

Zhou Yuan took a deep breath and touched her belly.

The doctor had said it was almost four months now.

But Gu Cheng didn’t know about the changes in her body.

Since they returned from the UK, their conjugal life had been sparse; she didn’t dare, always claiming discomfort, and he didn’t press her.

But now, Li Zhen holding her child, Gu Cheng bustling around, they really looked like a family.

Zhou Yuan silently photographed the scene before her with her phone, then went home to pack her bags and called her family driver to pick her up.

Fatty Aunt, seeing the driver carrying two large suitcases for Zhou Yuan, couldn’t help asking, “Yuanyuan, where are you going?”

“I’ve been feeling down lately; I want to stay at my parents’ house for a while,” Zhou Yuan replied.

“Does your husband know?”

“He doesn’t need to,” said Zhou Yuan.

Fatty Aunt sensed something was wrong and quickly asked, “What happened? Communication is most important between husband and wife. Running home when unhappy is taboo; it complicates matters when two families get involved.”

Zhou Yuan said, “I didn’t want it this way, Fatty Aunt. Thank you for looking after me.”

After saying this, Zhou Yuan left.

“Yuanyuan, what, what’s this about?” Mrs. Zhou noticed Zhou Yuan returning with two suitcases and realized something was wrong. “Did Gu Cheng send you back?”

Zhou Yuan gave a bitter smile. “Mom, the fact you’d think that shows what you think Gu Cheng is capable of.”

“My God, what on earth happened?” Mrs. Zhou took the suitcases and hugged her, her heart aching.

Tears eventually fell from Zhou Yuan’s eyes as she hugged her mother, crying, “I’m so foolish, our home was so good, and yet I chose to marry. Why couldn’t I just stay home and be your little princess forever?”

Mrs. Zhou didn’t press for details and just consoled her, then called Mr. Zhou to come home.

Mr. Zhou was in the middle of a meeting, but upon hearing Zhou Yuan had returned, he left the session immediately and rushed back.

“Where’s Yuanyuan?” Mr. Zhou asked as soon as he entered.

Mrs. Zhou pointed upstairs, “She said she was tired and went to sleep.”

“She won’t be able to sleep,” he said and went upstairs.

The couple tiptoed upstairs, but finding Zhou Yuan’s door open, they didn’t want to disturb her and refrained from knocking, simply listening at the door.

There seemed to be no sound of crying; it was very quiet.

So, they brought two small stools and sat by the door, ready.

In fact, Zhou Yuan was feeling much better after having her mother’s pumpkin cakes. Returning to her room, where she had slept since childhood, and smelling those familiar scents, she felt much calmer and fell asleep once she lay down.

After Gu Cheng finished the paperwork for Li Zhen and settled her and her daughter in the hospital room, he returned home.

Upon arrival, Fatty Aunt told him, “Sir, Yuanyuan just took her things and went back to her parents’ house!”

Gu Cheng was momentarily stunned, “When did this happen?”

“Just an hour ago.”

“Where did she go this morning?”

“Don’t know, but she started packing as soon as she returned.”

Gu Cheng felt guilty, having gone to see Li Zhen that day, despite Zhou Yuan asking him not to.

Gu Cheng didn’t think he had done much wrong; he was merely lending a hand. Aside from being his ex-girlfriend, Li Zhen was also his mother’s goddaughter, and helping a little didn’t seem too much to him.

He tried calling Zhou Yuan, but her phone was off.

Gu Cheng thought Zhou Yuan was likely just throwing a small tantrum. She loved him so much, she would surely forgive him eventually.

So, he simply had some food and then went to nap for a while.

But as evening fell, Zhou Yuan still hadn’t returned.

Gu Cheng checked her closet and saw that all her clothes had been taken, including her skincare products and pajamas, leaving nothing but a pair of slippers.

Realizing she must be truly upset, he hurriedly drove to her parents’ house.

“Dad, Mom, I want a divorce!” Zhou Yuan declared after sleeping for a while, “Dad, please draft a divorce agreement for me. I’m ready to separate with nothing as long as he signs it.”
