Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Step Down, Discuss It Properly, No Pressure on You

Sang Qiao suddenly realized that Si Chenli’s anger this time was different from before; he was serious this time.

Looking at the food that had gone cold, no matter how exquisite it appeared, she couldn’t bring herself to eat it. She could only look up at the man and say, "It’s too cold, I can’t eat it."

"Would it be cold if you hadn’t run away yesterday?" Si Chenli looked at her expressionlessly, with his legs crossed.

Sang Qiao discreetly scanned the more than twenty bodyguards around her, twenty-seven in total. She couldn’t tell how capable they were just by their appearances.

But the ones Si Chenli brought should be skilled, she thought, and escaping from here seemed somewhat difficult.

She had considered spending her life with Si Chenli, but she shouldn’t be ambiguously getting a marriage certificate under these circumstances. If every anonymous message in the future could affect their relationship, it would only show that they were not suitable for each other.

"Don’t even think about running away. There are two rows of bodyguards outside the yard," the man said, laughing lowly as if he could read her mind.

Sang Qiao: "..."

She slumped on the couch in resignation, clearly displaying an attitude of "you win."

"Indecent girls don’t deserve a proper wedding. Eat up quickly, we’re going to the Civil Affairs Bureau after."

Si Chenli picked up a chicken wing from the plate, intending to feed it to her.

Sang Qiao numbly opened her mouth to accept, though her mind was still focused on plans to escape.

Before the chicken wing could reach her mouth, Si Chenli withdrew his hand, "Never mind, eating cold food and getting an upset stomach will just cause more trouble."

He put down his chopsticks, pushed the lunchbox away, and glanced at the domestic workers from the villa, "Go heat it up."

The bodyguards immediately understood, letting two of the servants go to the kitchen to reheat the food.

"I need to use the restroom," Sang Qiao also used this as an excuse, standing up to head upstairs.

The man blocked her path even quicker, "There’s a restroom downstairs too. If you’re thinking of climbing out the window, weigh your chances against the bodyguards outside first. Be good, okay?"

"There are too many people in the living room; I’d be embarrassed to use the upstairs restroom. I have social anxiety."

Sang Qiao boldly pushed past his tall figure, not looking back as she headed upstairs.

Si Chenli followed closely behind, speaking in a very agreeable tone, "Fine, use the one upstairs."

"... Why don’t you just follow me into the restroom to supervise?" Sang Qiao cast a glance back at the man following her, feeling infuriated. She had never realized before that Si Chenli was such an unreasonable person.

"If you invite me like that, sure."

When Sang Qiao entered the ensuite bathroom of the room, she found that Si Chenli really intended to come in.

She was totally exasperated, "Get out!"

"Ten minutes." The man halted his steps and sat on her plush, cozy bed.

Sang Qiao "clicked" the door shut behind her and then stepped onto the toilet to look downstairs. Indeed, she saw the yard was filled with bodyguards—calling it two rows was an understatement; there were at least three, possibly forty or fifty in total.

It was the first time she felt such despair; before, she never realized how difficult a person Si Chenli could be.

Just as she was growing anxious, she suddenly noticed the particularly inconspicuous tree in the yard, the one she never gave a second glance, suddenly took on a great significance.

Its branches conveniently extended towards the gate; if she could jump onto the tree and climb over the wall, she might outpace the bodyguards and escape first.

If she couldn’t beat them, could she not outrun them?

However, the bathroom window was secured with a burglar-proof grate, definitely not an exit she could leap from.

As she was in the middle of her contemplation, a knock sounded at the door, accompanied by a man’s deep, magnetic voice, "What’s taking you so long? Aren’t you done yet?"

"No, my stomach hurts," Sang Qiao bluffed on the spot, her mind racing to figure out how she could jump to that tree.

"Isn’t the food still untouched?" The concern was evident in the frown of the man outside the door.

"Don’t know."

"Come out, I’ll take you to the hospital."

"No need, I’ll be fine after sitting a while longer, could you grab me some tissues?" Sang Qiao’s voice sounded muffled.

Thus, Si Chenli did not harbor much suspicion and headed downstairs to find her maid and get some tissues.

When the man’s footsteps had receded, Sang Qiao opened the door, went to the balcony, and climbed over the railing. Using the protruding stones on the wall like steps, she edged towards the branch. As she got close, she grabbed the thick branch and started to clamber over.

This commotion immediately caught the attention of the bodyguards below, prompting one to go inside and report.

What Si Chenli saw when he came out was the young girl climbing so high, hugging a branch thicker than her own thigh; his heart leapt into his throat for fear she would lose her grip and fall.

"Sang Qiao, don’t move recklessly," he called out.

"Thinking you can threaten me into anything is impossible!" Sang Qiao looked down from her high perch at Si Chenli, who was now below looking up at her. Looking down on him like this felt oddly exhilarating.

The frustration from being bullied and threatened by him over the past few days seemed to discharge in this moment.

"Come down, we’ll talk it over nicely, no pressure," assured Si Chenli, spreading his arms, ready to catch her at any moment.

But Sang Qiao was not going to play his game.

The other bodyguards had also begun formulating a plan to catch her, with some already set to wait by the door.

Sang Qiao’s four bodyguards realized their master’s intentions. Taking advantage of Si Chenli’s bodyguards, who were all focused on Sang Qiao, they managed to break free from their restraints.

They then rushed to the locked gate, putting their bodies in front to block it, "Sister Qiao, run!"

"You four, hand over the keys!" commanded the bodyguard from Si Chenli’s side, immediately stepping forward to demand the keys.

The four bodyguards fiercely resisted, but eight hands couldn’t fend off so many others. The bodyguard holding the keys clenched his teeth and threw the keys far beyond the gate.

"I’ll give you a raise when I get back!" Sang Qiao, perched on the wall, didn’t forget to praise her own bodyguards before promptly and decisively jumping down.

This scene made all the bodyguards inwardly curse, ’It’s over.’

As expected, Si Chenli’s expression turned exceptionally dark. Just then, his phone began to ring with a lingering tone.

Another anonymous call. After those photos, he couldn’t help but feel a disgust for unknown callers and cut the call without hesitation.

The persistent ringing came again; perhaps intending to vent his frustration, Si Chenli carelessly answered, "Speak."

"Mr. Si, this is Shangguan Lin, alias L, Sang Qiao’s primary doctor. I’d like to meet with you to tell you something important," said the voice on the line.

"Address," Si Chenli frowned subconsciously. He had already investigated this man after receiving the photos and knew he was the one who had kissed Sang Qiao’s hand.

Calling him now, was he implying they intended to flee together?

This thought only darkened Si Chenli’s mood further; now the alleged lover was reaching out to him!

"I’ll send it to your phone." With that, the line went dead.
