Meanwhile, the other escapees ran away as fast as they could without looking back. They made sure to use the narrow inner streets between houses, hoping to lose track of the locals' eyes somehow.

The group of a dozen would be separated into three, heading to different places according to the Map. Some of them would be camping outside the Center, some would be camping near the villa areas, and some were heading straight to the bunkers.

Eventually, after many twists and turns, the arrows stopped and the human alarms stopped screeching.

However, before they could separate—

GRRRR—

A large, ominous creature blocked the streets.

The inner streets were only so large, and this critter was blocking a good portion of it!

"What—"

GRRRR—

The low growl echoed in the area. It wasn't loud, but it was deep and made people unsettled. Its coat was golden and matted, but one could see the muscles beneath the skin. Its eyes glinted amidst the bright skies, and locked on to them.

"It's one of those battle pets!" Angit told them, gripping his weapon tightly. However, as intimidating as it was, he kept his cool. "The lowest among us is level 24, the damned battle pet shouldn't even be level 15! GO!"

The dozen of them immediately went to attack the beige creature, but it immediately disappeared in front of them. The next thing they knew, it was already above Angit and biting his arm.

"AH!" He yelled as he saw the sharp teeth bury into his arms. His equipment was already brittle before this and his eyes widened when he saw it crack.

GRRR—

His teammates raised their weapons above him, aiming to attack the dog while it was busy with their ally.

Even if these beasts had far higher defense than humans their level, they were still no match against direct attacks of people 10 levels stronger than they were—especially if they had Class D weapons!

However, before the weapon could slash and stab at the dog, a large furry ball of black and white rolled over so quickly they weren't able to avoid it anymore.

Clang!

Any Terrans there would have the deja vu of a bowling ball hitting pins.

"STRIKE!" Another guard—a horizontally blessed one—yelled as he arrived, looking satisfied with himself.

Without further ado, Mao took advantage of the enemies' imbalance and summoned several boulders, throwing them straight at their faces.

This further separated the dozen people and the people behind Mao immediately rushed to attack. They were all around level 15 though, so they had to pair up (or quad up) to deal with an enemy.

Similarly, the commotion alerted the few people hiding in their houses nearby, and now that the guards arrived, they had no qualms about attacking anymore.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

They rained down arrows on several people at a time. Because they were imbalanced, those few seconds made them easy targets.

Of course, the average low-level Alterran could not afford a strong weapon nor would they be able to maximize it, so the attacks were mostly to annoy and distract the enemies. At most, it would create shallow wounds or bruises which—if they came in succession—really annoying.

Overall, Mao's team—combined with the two pets and the people shooting from the balconies—was still inferior to the enemies in terms of overall strength. These people averaged at the late level 20s, after all, and some people—like Angit—were even level 30.

That didn't matter, of course, because Mao could make sure they could hold up for long enough, hopefully with few injuries.

Angit was seriously annoyed that a beast half his level wounded him at all. He raised his free arm to grab the damned thing's head, but it immediately stepped back, biting another person's leg instead.

"AHHH!"

Angit gritted his teeth as he shot himself up, lunging to attack a nearby enemy. He was immediately blocked by a large shield, however.

Mao lifted boulders with his ability to keep the enemies distracted, and he immediately lunged forward with his shield, forcing even Angit—who was several levels higher than he was—to slide back in defense.

In the meantime, a few others were unable to regain footing because a certain ball of black and white kept rolling around them. The streets were narrow, and the ends were blocked by earth walls, and it was difficult to gather their bearing.

This made it difficult for them to stand up properly and long enough to make attacks.

"What is that!?" one yelled, raising his arms to defend against raining arrows.

"It's another pet!" another yelled as he rolled to the corner, barely avoiding the ball. This made him an open target of an arrow that hit him straight in the face, however.

"Damn!" he gasped as the arrow buried on his cheek.

"AHH!" He screamed as he waved his weapon, slashing at random. He hit one of the Alterran guards, and also his own teammate.

It was here that Angit, despite his anger, realized what these people were doing. "They're trying to hold us back until others arrive!" he screamed, jaw clenched.

Even if they had higher levels, that'd be useless if they couldn't even have the chance to do a proper attack, right!? Even if they took down half of these people, it'd take too long!

Regardless of whether they had a chance against this team, being held back at this juncture meant failure to their mission. At the very least, they'd lose the chance to find a hiding place to make sure they'd survive all this!

Angit—with his insides burning in anger—had no choice but to yell the rational order. "RUN!" he yelled, disappearing from his spot.

At this, instead of trying to fight back, most of them immediately turned to jump over the earth wall and escape from this chaos.

Some successfully managed to do so, while one was held back by a certain dog glomping at his leg, and another was squeezed by a certain panda.

Some even pushed some companions back in, and he was promptly rolled over by the damned thing.

His level prevented him from dying, but the guards took advantage of his imbalance and stabbed at him, taking his life in the end.

Around seven or eight people managed to escape their group, and it was led by Angit, who was honestly getting desperate.

However, when Angit and the others landed on the other side of the earth wall, they were met with new enemies—a relatively large group of more than 20 people!

He would understand if they encountered just a small number of people. But these were a few teams! Strong ones!

This meant that they went in their direction, knowing that they were here!

How did they find them so quickly!?

In this distraction, even Angit failed to react when someone—or, rather, something— came at him from the side.

BANG!

He flew smack at the side of one of the buildings. He gathered himself to defend, but the attacker immediately appeared in front of him, raising its claws, and sending him a flurry of sharp attacks.

Angit's eyes widened when he saw the attacker was a reddish non-human with unpredictable strength!

"The Half-orc!"
