[Dungeon Crystal found, do you wish to absorb it?]
"What? Absorb? What’s this?" Riven asked in shock. He had never seen something like this in the story, not even the hero could right out absorb the dungeon core.
Yet the system was asking him to do that. He wasn’t sure of what to do. If the system asked him, then it should be possible, right? But it could be extremely risky as well.
He was extremely unsure of what to choose, but his curiosity got the better of him, so he decided to do it.
"Yes, I’d like to absorb the core," he said, and immediately, he felt a surge of energy flow through his hand to his arms. Suddenly, everywhere went dark.
[...]
The sounds of explosions filled Riven’s ears, cries and screams, roars and thunder, the sounds filled his ears, a massive cacophony, it sounded like a war.
But not just a simple war, from the sounds it was earth-shattering, from the sounds it was catastrophic.
The smell of blood and fire filled the air, the back of his throat burned as the embers of flame went into his nostrils.
Riven’s eyes flickered open, and all he saw was smoke, fire, blood, war.
’Where am I?’ The first question that came to his mind. The last thing he remembered was absorbing the crystal.
He looked around and saw goblins running. They ran desperately for their lives, but beams of fire fell from the sky and destroyed the goblins, entirely obliterating them.
Shocked by this, he looked up into the sky and saw shadows of creatures he had never seen before, with four wings, massive like dragons, their crimson red eyes pierced through the dark clouds of smoke.
They moved in a formation, releasing their disastrous fire breaths, flames so hot that even the earth was scorched.
"What are these?" Riven asked. He felt a wave of fear wash over his body. What were these creatures of destruction and why was he here?
[You are living the final moments of the goblin from the dungeon]
The system suddenly answered, giving Riven a simple yet very informative explanation of what was happening.
’So this is the life of the goblin I killed? This is his world? What a cruel world," Riven said as a beam of flames from the monsters above came down and burned him.
Riven jerked awake inside the dungeon, his eyes darted around, he touched himself, trying to check if he was still alive, and when he was sure, he heaved a sigh of relief.
[You have gained 10 Mana, 2 free stat points]
Riven looked at the screen with a smile. He had gained some good things from the crystal.
’That vision, was that the world this dungeon comes from? Why did it show me its world?" Riven wondered. He was uncertain of all of it because none of it was part of the plot that he knew, yet it was happening inside the story.
He shook his head to clear the thoughts for now. He picked up the remaining four crystals.
[Dungeon Crystal found, do you wish to absorb it?]
The same message came, and he was skeptical about going again. He wasn’t sure he was ready for another vision like that.
He gritted his teeth and decided to go for it, but as he absorbed one, no vision came, only the same message from the other one.
[You have gained 10 Mana, 2 free stat points]
He tried again with another one, and no vision happened, only the same reward message.
[You have gained 10 Mana, 2 free stat points]
After trying the two and seeing that none of them gave him a vision, he knew that it was not a constant thing. Maybe certain factors had to be met for it to happen.
He decided to store the remaining crystals. Sure, he loved getting more free stat points, but he also needed to sell some to get money. He needed his own money, not the one that his father gave.
He stored the remaining two inside his bag and continued walking deeper into the dungeon. As he went deeper into the dungeon, he realized that the walls of the dungeon were smoother.
It was as though someone worked on the wall. But it was nothing too shocking, as in the story, there are some dungeons made of brick walls or metal walls.
He didn’t come against any monster for a while. It was not until after he walked for ten minutes that he noticed a presence.
He expected it to be a goblin, but out of the darkness, two blood bats attacked. They were two-feet-large bats with vicious razor teeth and inch-long claws.
Their skin was as black as the night, their red eyes glowed. Riven thought that handling them would be no issue at all for him, but he didn’t expect for goblins to charge out of nowhere at the same time.
Six goblins, each carrying a rusted sword. They charged at the same time as the bats.
Riven immediately knew that he was in trouble. He couldn’t focus on the bats and the goblins at the same time, so he immediately turned heel and ran, retreating as fast as he could.
When he was certain that the distance he ran was far enough, he turned to face the monsters chasing him.
He pointed his hands at the goblins, "Flame blast," he called out in a cold and calm manner.
The flame shot through the air, targeted at the center goblin. The attack hit the goblin and an explosion followed. The explosion pushed all the goblins into the walls, leaving them with brutal burns, and killing the one that it had hit.
With the goblins out of the way, he slashed with his sword and used flame arc. The arc travelled through the air and killed one of the bats. Purple blood spilled from the air and splashed to the ground.
The second bat managed to dodge the flame arc, and charged in at Riven, but with only the bat he wasn’t worried.
