Chapter 42: Great battle mage

The receptionist returned with a small pouch of coins and a card in hand. She placed them on the counter.

"Based on the current price set on crystals, one floor one goblin goes for one silver coin, and the floor two goblins go for two silver coins.

Also, because this is your first time, we added a bonus. There are twenty silver coins inside the pouch," she said calmly and pushed the pouch to him.

"You are also now a two bronze star adventurer, congratulations," she added and pushed the card as well.

Riven carefully took everything and placed it inside his bag. He bowed in thanks to her and left the counter.

He saw his brother already tapping his feet against the floor in an impatient manner.

"It’s only been a few minutes, why do you look so impatient?" Riven asked as he got there.

"You wasted my time. Do you know how many dungeon monsters we could have killed by now? Talk about being useless," he snapped, getting up and walking out.

Riven stood there, clicked his tongue. He would shove this dude’s head into the wall if his father would not punish him for it.

He walked out of the guild and caught up behind his brother. He walked behind him without saying a word. After a while of walking, they made it to the gate. Riven noticed the second guard that had recognized him yesterday and told off the first.

He walked over to the guard. Immediately the guard saw him, he stood straight and bowed his head. "Greetings, young master." His eyes faced the ground, his arms by his side.

"No need to be scared, I just wanted to ask about your friend," Riven said.

"I’m sorry, young master, but he was called in yesterday after you left. Our captain called him in. He is currently serving a month’s time in the dungeon for disrespecting a noble.

Because young master didn’t press any charges against him, he was able to get off with just that punishment," the guards relayed everything that happened to Riven.

"I see. Well, thank you," Riven said and walked away. The guard looked up with a shocked look on his face. After what happened yesterday, he had asked around about Riven. He discovered the kind of rumors that were around him.

After learning them, he was certain that Riven would push the case and completely ruin the other guard, but nothing of that sort happened. On the contrary, Riven seemed like a very nice person.

Riven caught up with Noel, who was waiting for him, genuinely pissed at his brother. He shot a cold look at him as he approached, but Riven didn’t pay attention to him. He walked past him and led them into the forest.

He followed the same path he used before, not needing the map. They made it to the dungeon in a few minutes. The same as yesterday, it was completely crowded around the dungeon.

It seemed people from different towns and cities were also here to enter the dungeon. Some people were calling out to others to make parties to raid the dungeon.

"Follow me, we are entering now," Riven said. His brother nodded and walked behind him. They made it to the front, and Riven showed his permit to the guard.

They allowed both of them inside. Riven went in first, and his brother followed after. Noel looked around the dungeon, fascinated by the beautiful construct without known origins.

But Riven had to cut whatever that was short. He snapped his finger in front of his brother and started walking into the dungeon. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

The both of them walked deeper into the first floor of the dungeon, passing a lot of parties and adventurers on the way, until they finally made it to a place where no one was, and their first monsters for the day spawned.

Three goblins, each holding maces in their hands. Riven moved to pull his blade, but Noel took a step forward and pulled his.

Seeing this, Riven took a step back. He wanted to see the strength and talent of the best in their house. Noel got into a perfect sword stance, his legs spread apart at the perfect distance, his sword in front of him, angled forward slightly.

The goblins took his stance as a provocation to battle, and so they charged all at the same time. Noel drew a deep breath, and for a moment, it seemed like time slowed down for him.

His feet kicked the ground. His body covered the distance in only a second. His sword cut through the air. The first goblin blinked, and its head was already in the air.

Noel didn’t stop after that. He planted his feet to stop his motion and then went for the second and third in one slash, killing both of them.

Riven watched in silence. He watched the movements of his brother, the way he swung his blade, and immediately he recalled a very influential character in the story: the great battle mage Noel.

A figure that was said to be one of humanity’s strongest weapons and a close friend to the hero. But his name was only mentioned once, and that was why Riven forgot.

He was simply referred to as the great battle mage all through the story. His sword skill and magic were terrifying. He even sparred with the heir once and held his ground for a bit.

’So this is the great battle mage? My brother?’ Riven asked himself as he watched his brother pick the crystals.

’This will be fun. Using my own brother, the great battle mage, as a rival will be something to look forward to,’ Riven thought. He folded his arms calmly and spoke.

"You did all that fancy movement to kill three goblins," he said to spite his brother.

Noel shot him a look. He pointed his blade at Riven. "Try to attack and let’s see if you can survive the movements," Noel said.

"I like my head where it is," Riven said with a chuckle.
