Chapter 68: Goblin champion

Riven used the stairs to get down to the third floor. As soon as he got there, the smell of mold and old wood filled his nose.

He looked around, and this floor was not the same as those above. The walls were made of stone bricks, and the ceilings were reinforced with wooden beams that had seen better days.

Riven looked around. There were so many paths to floor right off the bat, but he didn’t have a good feeling about this third floor—it felt like something was already watching him.

Suddenly, he sensed something headed for him. He moved out of the way just in the nick of time as a spear shot past his ear and stuck to a wall behind him, blasting a deep hole into the wall.

Immediately, he pulled out his sword and charged into the hallway. He spotted a figure standing in the far distance of the hallway, and he knew that was the being that attacked.

The creature saw Riven coming and pulled a sword as well, charging to meet Riven. When they were finally close, Riven saw that it was a hobgoblin, but this one was vastly different from the one he had met on the second floor.

It was faster, looked stronger, and gave off a unique aura. Riven smiled as he approached. He knew this was about to be a crazy good fight, and he had wanted to test out his sword mastery now.

The goblin went for the first attack—a diagonal slash to end it all—but Riven was faster than that. He planted his feet, spun to the side, dodged the attack, and went in for a counter.

The goblin didn’t expect such a move but was still able to react to it. He parried Riven’s sword but got pushed back a few steps.

Riven took advantage of that. He followed in with a flurry of attacks, trying to pin the goblin to the wall, but the goblin pulled off a crazy move.

He jumped backward, pressed his feet against the wall, and made a flip over Riven. Immediately as it landed, it spun around with a slash. Riven turned his sword to the back and blocked the attack, pushed the sword, and spun around.

’This goblin’s agility is crazy, but it can’t beat my speed and strength. I should use that to my advantage.’

Their blades crossed, and rather than push him back, Riven twisted the blade in a way that made the blade temporarily get stuck against his sword guard, buying him a good second to push closer to make sure that the goblin can’t move away.

The goblin saw how dire the situation was, and if he allowed Riven to get too close, he would grab him and use his strength to win, so the goblin went in for a bite, its fangs ready to sink in.

Riven didn’t allow it, though. He straight up headbutted the goblin and knocked him back before kicking him into a wall and stabbing him through the heart, its green blood spraying as he pulled the sword out.

He picked the crystal up and placed it into the strip, adding another thousand points to him. [1000]

He turned to go deeper, but immediately as he turned, he saw one hobgoblin staring at him. It held a purple orb in its arm and a smile on its face.

Riven couldn’t put his finger on it, but he felt something was wrong. He got into a stance and got ready to fight. Suddenly, purple fog began spewing from the orb—it spread fast and quick.

Riven retreated to make sure that the fog didn’t touch him. From the fog, skeleton undead came out, holding rusted weapons. Their hollow gazes picked on Riven and immediately charged at him.

"You’ve got to be kidding me, undead?"

The first undead got to him, and without hesitation, he slashed, cutting through the thick skull and killing the first one.

From what he knew, the skeletons would not die unless he cut off the head—else they would piece themselves together. The hero of the story had faced undead so many times in the story.

"I need to move fast," he said and looked at all the undead. "I have to clear a path." He pointed his sword and used it to channel flame blast. "Have a taste of this," he yelled and blasted them.

Noel pushed the wooden door up, finally stepping out of the boss room. It had been a terrifying fight against that goblin champion. He wondered if Riven made it through safely.

"I have to find him," he said to himself as he began walking. He walked for a few minutes when suddenly, the sound of battle reached his ears. freewēbnoveℓ.com

He rushed in that direction to see who it was. He made it to a spacious room and saw three candidates fighting against a goblin champion similar to the one that he had fought, though it was smaller and seemed less powerful.

They were two girls and a boy. The boy seemed so beat up he could barely grip his sword, but the girl who was a mage could still stand strong.

At the center was Liana, Riven’s fiancée. Her hair dripped with the crystal liquid of sweat, her face looked like she had doused it in water. Her eyes were blood red, but still filled with determination.

The goblin attacked them with a terrifying punch, and she tried to block it, but out of nowhere, a bolt of lightning struck the hand of the goblin, blasting flesh and skin away.

"Roarrrrrrrrr!" The goblin roared in pain and tried to find who attacked it, but Noel was already behind it. He kicked off the wall and rose high, almost reaching the ceiling, and then he stabbed down.

The goblin could not react fast enough, and the sword dug into the back of the goblin, right through its heart and killed it.

The massive body fell to the ground and immediately decomposed. Noel stood there, breathing heavy. Though that was a very quick kill, he had pushed himself to do it quick.
