An Extra's POV: My Three Fiancees Hate Me-Chapter 75: Sally
Chapter 75: Sally
The day of the exam finally came, and unlike back in Ribest, there was no fuss. After all, the capital was far larger and also the people for the exam were far less in number.
Using the South gate, they headed to the island through a bridge. They finally made it to the academy. The massive town-like structure was set at the center of a massive forest that stretched through the entire island.
It was crazy that this entire island would be the location for just an academy, but the island was not just there for looks, because in this island are mysteries and dangers that even the academy had no ideas of, and that allowed for different adventures and teachings to happen on the island.
Getting off the carriage, they walked to the gates of the academy without hesitation. The massive iron gate beast swung open to accept them.
And standing right after the gate was a man and a woman, each dressed in the instructor’s uniform—a white jacket that flowed down to their ankles—and carried the crest of the academy on their chest.
Riven already knew all there was to know about the uniform. The instructors all had it but only used it on occasions like this and also when they had to leave the academy for academy-related tasks.
The man was slightly tall, back with a sharp expression. He had flowing brown hair that stopped just short of his neck. The lady had dark purple hair that flowed down to her waist; her eyes matched her hair.
She had a cute face, and her small stature matched her face. She looked like something that you would want to pet.
When her eyes rested on the two of them, a smile of delight formed. She looked at their wrists and saw the strips, so she immediately knew that they were candidates.
She immediately rushed to them with a smile, "Hello, it’s nice to see you both." Her tone was bright and refreshing.
"I’m guessing both of you are candidates that passed the first stage of the exams. Well, I am Sally and that’s Luwen." She pointed to the man, who let out a hmph and looked away.
"Don’t pay him any more attention. He is sulking because they didn’t let him be part of the exam instructors, so he had to settle for welcoming candidates and leading them to the exam area," she said with a giggle.
"Sally, you shouldn’t be telling that to just anyone you see," he barked.
"Lighten up, Luwen, it’s fun," she said with her bright smile still on her face.
"My personal issues are not something you should use for fun," he argued. She pouted when he said that, "You are no fun, Luwen."
What Luwen and Noel were seeing was a bright and happy instructor that loved being lively, but that was not what Riven saw.
He knew Sally—he knew her more than he should—because she was not all smiles. Sally was the trigger for the first major academy event that took the lives of some students and also put the hero in a tough spot where he almost died.
The image of Sally that Riven had in his head was not that of a smiling instructor, but of a demon, with crimson eyes that burned with flames, and a tongue that craved the taste of blood.
The smile he remembered was not the smile of happiness, but a sick smile that would make one shiver in fear. That was the Sally he recalled from the book.
’What was it that she did to start that major event? I can’t recall. It had been years since I read it. My memories of that event have faded a lot, but I know she somehow summoned a gate right in the academy, allowing demonized to come out.’
"Hey Riven," Noel called him, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"Ohhh? Did you start daydreaming? Well, no time for that, we have to head to the exams—it will be starting soon," Sally said, her smile still bright.
But Riven could not see that smile without seeing the blood that her character was depicted with. He recalled when the author Frozen Fish had released her illustrations.
It was the depiction of a real wolf in sheep’s clothing. Pure, unfiltered evil—that was what she was.
"Head down this path, and you’ll get to the academy arena. Go inside and head to the fight area. That’s where all the students are standing," Luwen said.
"Okay then, thank you, we will be heading now," Noel said, and they walked past. But as Riven walked past the still smiling Sally, he could swear he saw her expression shift slightly into a demonic smile.
’What the hell? Is she onto me? Does she know I know her? No, that’s not possible. Calm down, I’m overthinking it,’ Riven thought to himself as he walked.
"You really have to stop telling the candidates all that. I know you are free-spirited, but please don’t," Luwen said.
"Not happening. Your story is just too fun to tell. I need it to remember fun times," she said with her smile still bright and happy.
Riven and Noel made it to the large arena. They walked through the double doors and through the hallway, finally making it into the circular arena. It was built similar to the Roman Colosseum.
As soon as they entered there, they saw that almost everyone that should be there was already there.
Riven’s gaze met with Lance right off the bat, and the tension between them could be cut with a knife.
"We should try to stay away from all of them," Noel said. Riven nodded in agreement. They stood inside the arena without paying attention to anyone, simply waiting for the exams to start.
Soon, the prince and princess also arrived and the rest of the people that got through. When all five hundred were finally there, someone walked into the arena.
She was a stunning beauty—tall and slender with white hair—and though her skin was as smooth as a baby’s bottom, she still looked mature. Her sharp eyes exuded confidence and power all at the same time.
Dressed in a stunning black dress, showing off her elegance. Behind her were two instructors—two men.
She looked at all the candidates standing there for a few seconds and then she spoke. "Welcome, all of you that have made it to the second and final stage of the exams.
I am Elena Griffin, the headmistress of the academy. I’ll be sitting in the stands and watching the exams as they unfold.
I’m sure that you all know that the academy takes in only two hundred students from the exams. Well, this year, there will be a slight change," she said. Her voice was sharp and demanded attention.
"This year, an extra fifty will be taken into the academy, and those will be in the relegation classes. The reason for this is to make sure that those above continue to strive to stay up and not allow themselves to fall.
Because if you do that, someone from the relegation class will most definitely rise and take your spot from you. More details on it will be in your student handbooks.
As for the exams now, you will all be facing off in combat matches that we have prepared. All of you here have trained to be capable to fight in your own way. The instructors behind me will explain to you how exactly the matches go," she said as she walked out of the arena without saying anything else.
Immediately she left, the instructors came up. The one on the right started explaining.
"The fights will happen on a two versus two people scale. All your information has been studied by the academy and they have already known who to place with whom.
You are to connect with your partner and make sure that you win against the other two. The two that lose have already lost the chance to be in the academy.
So let this sink in: the fate of your partner lies in your hands. Even if you perform exceptionally and your partner makes you fail, you will still lose your chance.
But if the time runs out and no winner is declared, the two that performed best from either side will be admitted and the others will be eliminated."
The words of the instructor were already causing a massive wave of disagreement and noise between the candidates.
"You will also not be facing off in the real world, but on magically formed terrain where you can’t really die, and that allows you to go all out and try to defeat your enemies.
The terrains will be chosen at random, so you must adapt to whatever you are given. That’s all for what you need to know about the exam. As for your partners, your number will come out on your strip, and the person with the corresponding number is your partner."
