Chapter 172: The Stone Is Melting

Not every demon is evil, Cordelia, just as not every angel is good. In this case, it is understandable that not every angel betrayed Michael and not every demon betrayed Lucifer. Many of them are fulfilling the tasks assigned to them.

[This is what happened when the war began. Atlas had drawn so much attention to himself over time that even the piece of soul he had given to Beelzebub could have made that great devil the new master of that false hell. This means that the attention he drew saved the devils and angels who were trying to save Lucifer or Michael.]

"So you’re saying..." Cordelia said suddenly. After reading all those writings, everyone paused and tried to make sense of what had happened.

[Billions of demons and angels were saved thanks to Atlas. When Michael died, you were released from the cage you were imprisoned in thanks to killing most of the great angels. Unfortunately, it was too late for everything. Atlas’s death and Chronos sending him back in time reset everything.]

"Billions of demons and angels... More than the world’s population could ever imagine. That alone explains why his karma is so high..." Cordelia said, her eyes fixed on the unconscious Atlas, and then asked, "What about the angels or demons? They don’t remember anything, do they?"

[Only those who are beyond the reach of time can remember, young lady. This applies to me, the mind of this dungeon, and my creator, Chaos. So no, while Atlas himself—the very reason the spell to travel back in time exists—remembers everything, the others have forgotten everything. Neither the angels nor anyone else.]

"I understand... That’s all I wanted to ask. Please leave Atlas and us alone," Cordelia said suddenly. With that, every single word in the sky disappeared, and only the words [So be it.] remained.

Immediately after these words appeared, a passageway formed a few metres away from the Sages.

Cassandra gently carried Atlas, who was unconscious in her arms, to her feet, and the other Sages followed her out of the portal.

The group reappeared in front of the dungeon door. The dungeon doors closed, a lock clicked, and the key on the door vanished. Immediately after that, the door disappeared in a matter of seconds.

"What’s happening?" Talon asked suddenly. Like everyone else, he understood what it meant, but logic had completely disappeared here.

"Has the dungeon been cleared?" Bellatrix asked suddenly.

"It must be... There can be no other meaning to the dungeon disappearing, but... How? We had given up on the stone," Cain replied.

At that very moment, Cassandra looked at the unconscious Atlas in her arms and, while checking to see if he was okay, noticed that his mana was beginning to grow to enormous proportions.

Trying to understand what was happening, she turned to Cordelia and called out, "My lady!"

Cordelia, sensing something was wrong, immediately went to Cassandra and Atlas and, upon touching Atlas’s body, noticed the life energy increasing by the second. This life energy was transforming into meaning every second—the very power Atlas had initially embraced.

However, Cordelia could see it perfectly clearly: the mass in the centre of Atlas’s heart was neither meaning nor life energy itself.

"Life Stone?" Cordelia said, looking quite shocked.

The Life Stone was somehow embedded in a corner of Atlas’s heart and seemed to be melting away every second. Still, there was no way Atlas’s body could withstand such power. Cordelia was aware of how enormous the amount of life energy and mana being generated every second was.

"If this continues, he will die..." Cordelia said suddenly. There was no way to strengthen Atlas’s body, truly no way. Cordelia could be a blessed mage, the most powerful person, but even her knowledge was limited; she was not a god or goddess, she could not simply make someone powerful out of nothing.

Especially when that person was unconscious and unable to accept the power.

Everyone was well aware of this. That was precisely why they had started thinking of something.

After almost two or three minutes, Constantine immediately knelt next to Atlas and shouted, "Bellatrix, come!"

Bellatrix, as if she understood what they were going to do, immediately knelt next to Constantine.

Constantine immediately took Bellatrix’s hand and said, "Follow my mana. Our mana will not harm his. Instead of adding mana to him, we will try to put the life energy that is formed into a seal."

Bellatrix nodded immediately and then closed her eyes, placing her hand on Atlas’ chest, just as Constantine had done at that moment.

Both Constantine and Bellatrix seemed to have shrunk and beamed themselves into the area around Atlas’ heart, into his body.

The increasing life energy and, consequently, the purest essence that had ever existed was putting the two under terrible pressure.

If the two were not Sages and their endurance had not surpassed the levels of their race, they would have definitely died by now.

By the time Constantine began casting spells and Bellatrix started following him, dozens of minutes had already passed. The two were doing their best to conjure a rune, but nothing was working.

The Life Stone was so pure that it accepted nothing but the essence bound to Atlas. It was as if, before entering the dungeon, the Sages could transfer meaning into his body, but now Atlas’s body, heart, and the Life Stone, which had begun to melt and was trying to create life energy, seemed to reject everything.

Frankly, neither Constantine nor Bellatrix knew what they needed to do. They could only keep trying.

They tried again and again. No matter what happened, Bellatrix and Constantine did not give up, but nothing changed.

Atlas’s body rejected all meanings and every rune that was created disappeared.

As if the Life Stone were alive, Constantine and Bellatrix felt a sudden pain, and then, as expected, the pair were thrown out of the body.

Both Constantine and Bellatrix’s noses were bleeding. The pair, who had not bled in perhaps thousands of years, were naturally in a state of great shock.

Nevertheless, like everyone else, their sole concern was for Atlas.

If even this did not work, what else could they do?
