Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train-Chapter 203: Detonation
Inside Reagent Room No. 1 of the chemical plant, eerie lantern flowers emitted a faint orange glow, their blood-red veins flickering constantly. Below them, the deep black chemical pool lay still, concealing countless flesh-boned beings just beneath the surface.
The workshop was eerily silent. A massive metal reaction kettle hung high above, connected to an overhead crane by mechanical suspension arms. A silver, specially-made bomb glowed faintly with a green light, suspended above an underground storage area filled with a dozen large silver tanks. A pungent mix of chemicals and the stench of decay filled the air.
In the town, the impostors sensed danger—perhaps they, too, had been detected by the entity beneath the lantern flowers. The orange glow on the flowers grew brighter, flickering more intensely.
Outside, the entire chemical plant was shrouded in a torrential downpour, the sky dark and oppressive, resembling an eternal night.
On the open ground near the entrance, blood pooled beneath Ding Qing’s chest. Duan Min held his gradually lifeless body, her face blank and numb.
“Honey, look, they’re all gone,” she whispered.
“Xiao Jia and the others… they made it out alive…”
Ding Qing struggled to keep his eyes open, gazing toward the distant horizon where the survivor convoy had long since disappeared into the rain.
Duan Min turned her head toward the chemical plant, leaned close to Ding Qing’s ear, embraced him tightly, and smiled. “Don’t be afraid. We don’t have to run anymore…”
—Boom!
Atop the clock tower, Lin Xian had constructed a heavy blast-proof door to shield against the explosion. Behind him, KIKI’s glowing eyes flickered as she formed an invisible psychic barrier, wrapping them both in protection.
Seeing the moment had come, Lin Xian pulled out the detonator and took a deep breath.
Beep.
Then, he pressed the switch.
—BOOM!
Inside the chemical plant, the signal lights on the crane suddenly flickered wildly before detonating. The crane’s structural arms snapped, and the reaction kettle—filled with caustic alkaline solution—plummeted directly in front of the lantern flower, smashing onto the storage tanks below.
Thud!
The storage tanks ruptured instantly.
In the blink of an eye, a dazzling explosion of white-hot flames erupted—
BOOM!!!
A deafening explosion rocked the entire chemical plant. A colossal fireball engulfed the reagent room and the condensation towers, sending flames shooting dozens of meters into the sky. For a moment, even the heavy rain was blasted aside, creating a vacuum in the downpour.
Billowing black smoke, like a massive dragon with outstretched claws, surged into the sky, obscuring the heavens. The sheer scale of the blast cast a dark veil over the land.
The shockwave rippled outward like a tidal wave, shaking the ground violently as if an earthquake had struck. Rooftops and windows across Rain Town shattered in an instant, sending a thick cloud of dust surging through the streets.
“Watch out!”
Lin Xian braced himself against the blast-proof wall as the invisible force slammed into the clock tower. Chunks of plaster and masonry peeled off the walls and columns, while KIKI’s psychic shield deflected most of the flying debris. In the swirling dust, a white spherical barrier became faintly visible.
The force of the explosion even shook the Infinite Train at Rain Town Station, sending shivers through everyone on board.
Seconds later, the ringing in their ears and the choking dust gradually settled under the relentless rain.
Lin Xian shoved open the blast-proof door and, alongside KIKI, peered into the distance.
The chemical plant was now completely consumed by fire and black smoke. The explosion had obliterated any recognizable structure—its towering condensation towers reduced to rubble.
“Did it die?” KIKI shouted.
—ROOAARRRR!!!
A thunderous bellow echoed across the town. Instantly, the sound of frantic movement erupted from every building—impostors surged out of dark corners, some even hurling themselves from windows, their human-like bodies shattering on impact. These parasitic creatures shrieked and scrambled toward the chemical plant in a frenzied rush.
More and more impostors emerged from underground tunnels, residential buildings, and beneath bridges—some still humanoid, others grotesquely rotted and shedding skin. The streets flooded with their grotesque forms, all charging toward the inferno.
“There are… so many of them,” Lin Xian muttered, his expression grim. “That damn parasite must have consumed a lot of people…”
“Lin Xian, look!” KIKI suddenly gasped, pointing at the chemical plant.
Under the dark clouds and crackling lightning, amidst the suffocating black smoke, a massive shadow loomed. As the lightning flashed, the monstrous form was revealed—several enormous tentacles flailed wildly, its body still wreathed in raging flames.
It roared and thrashed, its immense bulk struggling against the inferno. The air reeked of burning flesh and destruction. Beneath its monstrous head, they could finally see the true form of the tentacles hidden within the chemical pool.
Atop its grotesque body, the lantern flower had been completely incinerated.
The massive tentacles writhed desperately against the scorching flames.
—ROOAARRR!!!
Suddenly, the parasite sensed Lin Xian’s presence. Without warning, it lunged through the fire, scrambling toward the town.
“Run!”
Lin Xian’s face darkened. Without hesitation, he leaped from the clock tower.
—Thud!
With the assistance of his exoskeleton, he landed from over ten meters high with ease, hopping onto his motorcycle and speeding toward the outskirts.
KIKI soared overhead, watching in shock as the flaming monstrosity barreled toward the town.
“Didn’t Director Ding say it wasn’t mobile?!” she shouted.
“A cornered rabbit will still bite! And those tentacles sure as hell aren’t just for show!”
Though clumsy on land, its sheer size and reach allowed it to wreak havoc. It plowed through the town, knocking over buildings with every massive sweep of its burning tendrils.
The rushing impostors were instantly consumed by the flames it carried, igniting into living torches.
Yet the impostor horde did not stop—more surged forward, heedless of the fire, pouring toward the creature.
The enormous Eerie Entity had gone berserk. With a single sweep of its tentacle, an entire building was reduced to rubble as it relentlessly pursued Lin Xian.
—Aboard the Infinite Train, the entire crew gathered at the windows, watching in horror as the parasite set Rain Town ablaze. Smoke and flames engulfed the entire town, consuming the cinema and shopping district. Not even the torrential rain could douse the inferno.
Chen Sixuan snapped into action. Grabbing her communicator, she barked orders:
“Da Lou, cover them! Lu Xingchen, go retrieve Lin Xian and KIKI! Shu Qin, provide fire support! Shasha, activate the CIWS targeting system!”
—Beep! Beep! Beep!
The automated blast doors on Cars 11 and 5 slid open. Lu Xingchen and Shu Qin dashed out, while Da Lou climbed onto the rooftop shooting platform. His Roarer K23 electric Gatling gun spun up, and the 1130 CIWS in Car 12 rose into position.
“They’re coming!”
—Brrrrr!
Lin Xian sped down the road on his motorcycle, KIKI flying above him. As soon as the parasite lunged into range, the Infinite Train opened fire—
—TATATATATATATATA!
A storm of bullets tore into the beast, ripping flesh apart in a shower of gore.

Impostors, some still ablaze, rushed the station. The crew aboard the Infinite Train counterattacked immediately—Shu Qin and Da Lou unleashed a hail of gunfire, while Shasha’s grenade launcher exploded amidst the horde.
Atop the shooting deck, Chen Sixuan took aim with her A33K Anti-Materiel Sniper Rifle. She locked onto a massive impostor lunging at Lin Xian’s motorcycle—
—Bang!
The shot blasted the impostor into pieces, its remains still twitching from parasitic influence.
One by one, she picked off monsters closing in on her teammates—each shot deadly precise.
In Car 1, Ding Junyi stood by the window, hands in his pockets, his heart pounding wildly. Watching the tide of grotesque creatures and the monstrous entity beyond, he realized something—
For the first time… he felt no urge to run.
The Infinite Train roared with firepower, tearing through the darkness!
