Ratatatat!!

The impostors on the platform had been completely wiped out. Luo Shasha and Shu Qin led their team rushing out of the station, while every single member of the Infinite Train unleashed a relentless barrage on the burning monster.

Everyone gritted their teeth, pouring out all the fear and frustration they had bottled up from countless nights of fleeing in terror from the creatures of the dark. It was as if they were determined to empty every last bullet they had.

Flames. Bullets. Nonstop bombardment.

For four or five minutes straight, the barrels of the machine guns glowed red-hot from overuse.

Finally, the writhing frequency of the parasitic tendrils inside the smoke and fire began to slow… and slow… until at last, there was nothing but silence.

Click.

The final bullet was spent.

Outside the station, the battlefield fell into a deathly stillness.

Only the monstrous parasite, now engulfed in flames, continued to crackle and sizzle within the inferno.

Huff… Huff…

Everyone stared at the charred, unknown entity, their eyes wide, their breaths heavy.

"Is it dead?"

Someone broke the silence.

"It should be… right?"

Whoosh—!

A pillar of black smoke suddenly shot into the sky.

Lin Xian's expression darkened. "Not good!"

But in the very next moment, the smoke twisted sharply—diverting away from them and soaring toward the back of the crowd.

There stood Ding Junyi, in front of her… the Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum she had placed earlier.

As the swirling black mist surged into the flower, the deep crimson glow at its core vanished in an instant, replaced by a soft, radiant white light.

Ding Junyi adjusted her glasses, a rare flicker of excitement gleaming in her eyes. "Looks like my hypothesis was correct."

Lin Xian exhaled deeply, closed his eyes for a moment, and then spoke softly.

"We did it."

The instant those words left his mouth, a tidal wave of exhilaration swept over the entire team.

"YEAH!!!"

Shasha jumped up with a cheer.

"This is amazing!" Shu Qin called out, exchanging a celebratory high-five with Luo.

Lü Chang, Miao Lu, and the others erupted into joyful shouts.

"I can’t believe we actually took down such a massive monster!"

"This is unreal!"

"Long live Captain Lin!"

Chen Sixuan stood there, pale-faced, chest rising and falling with deep breaths. She looked at the burning remains of the enormous creature, then at the beaming faces of her comrades, the firelight illuminating their expressions.

For the first time, their cheers felt genuine—pure, unrestrained joy.

Lin Xian was also catching his breath. His gaze flickered up to KIKI hovering above, then over to Lu Xingchen as he emerged from the flames, completely unscathed. At that moment, he couldn’t help but smile.

"I could never have done this alone. It was all thanks to you guys… and Fire God descending from the heavens."

Lu Xingchen strolled over, his expression as composed as ever despite the chorus of excited cheers around him.

"It was merely a wave of my hand, nothing more." His tone was indifferent, though he glanced down at his slightly singed sleeves. "Tch… I got a little dirt on my coat. I must strive for further perfection."

"Lu-ge was insane today!"

"So badass!" Some of the female squad members crowded around him, voices filled with admiration.

"This guy… Seriously?"

KIKI landed beside Lin Xian, rolling her eyes at Lu Xingchen. "He totally stole the spotlight today. He’s probably feeling smug as hell inside, but look at him, pretending to be all calm and collected. 'A little dirt on my coat’? Where’s your damn coat?!"

Lin Xian chuckled. "You know, I actually agree. He really did steal the show."

"Oh, check this out."

KIKI raised her hand, and a jet-black orb suddenly shot out from the flames, landing in Lin Xian’s palm.

His expression shifted. "This is… a Blood Crystal?"

"It should be a Level 3 Blood Crystal," Ding Junyi said as she walked over. "According to the Federation’s database, Level 3 Blood Crystals are extremely valuable—equivalent to the resources needed to sustain an entire battalion."

"Whoa, seriously?" KIKI’s eyes widened.

Lin Xian weighed the crystal in his hand, his gaze sharp. "Considering the price we paid for this fight, getting something valuable in return is only fair. But figuring out how best to use it… that’s up to you, Director Ding."

He handed the crystal over to Ding Junyi.

She took it, adjusting her glasses once again. "The Federation and Phoenix probably already have some research progress on Blood Crystals. My suggestion is to trade our Dark Mark research data for their latest findings. That way, I can accelerate our own research."

"Trade?" Chen Sixuan approached, frowning. "With the Federation?"

"It’s just an exchange of interests," Ding Junyi clarified. "It has nothing to do with loyalty to any organization."

"No trade."

Lin Xian shut it down immediately. "We still need to verify our findings when night falls. If it proves correct, then we’ll directly share our Dark Mark research with Phoenix. They might already have their own theories, but if our information reaches the survivors even a day earlier, it could save lives."

Ding Junyi studied him for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, your call. I’ll keep studying the Blood Crystal. If we need to trade, I suggest using Level 1 or 2 Blood Crystals first. This Level 3 one is far too unique—it could greatly benefit my research."

"That’s fine."

Lin Xian swept his gaze over the battlefield. The sky was overcast. Most of Rain Town was ablaze. The massive parasite had been reduced to a smoldering husk, and the station was littered with impostor corpses.

Turning to Shu Qin, he asked, "Do we have any casualties?"

Shu Qin shook her head, eyes still bright with excitement. "Some injuries, but nothing serious. No fatalities."

Lin Xian exhaled, relieved.

Taking down such a monstrous parasite without losing a single person… That was beyond his expectations.

He turned to Ding Junyi. "Director Ding, I owe you one. Your judgment was spot-on."

She nodded slightly. "Thank you."

Though they had burned through a massive amount of ammunition and resources, their team had survived intact. More importantly, their successful operation might have cleansed their Dark Marks—a potential game-changer.

And perhaps even more crucially, the battle had shifted their mindset. Their fear was no longer absolute.

Confidence had been born from victory.

Lin Xian checked the time. An hour until nightfall.

To be safe, he didn’t want to waste another second.

"Everyone, pack up and return to the train. We leave Rain Town tonight."

"Understood!"

The team moved swiftly.

Lin Xian ordered Luo to load the Roarer K23 Electric Gatling Gun onto the train—it would be a valuable addition to their firepower.

The only problem was… ammunition.

The more heavy weapons they had, the greater the burden on Lin Xian to manufacture bullets.

Once everyone was aboard, Lin Xian activated the Eerie Cube.

【Beep! Conducting anomaly detection using non-mechanical energy…】

【Scan complete. No fear-based anomalies detected. Dark forces successfully neutralized.】

"Hah…"

Lin Xian let out a breath of relief. After the nightmarish impostor invasion from before, he wasn’t about to take any chances.

"Good thing we have the Eerie Cube… and Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum. Both of them did some serious work today."

One could block Dark Infection and detect infiltrators.

The other… well, its Dark Mark detection ability alone made it worth its weight in gold.

In some ways, Hell’s Black Chrysanthemum was like an upgraded Soul Wave Detector.
