Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Going to Collect Timber Together

She couldn’t understand how a simple look in the eyes could make her feel so many emotions.

She immediately looked away and asked, "Where is the workshop?"

Ye Xuan also moved his eyes away with his lips rising with a slight arc upward. Anyone who knew him could tell that he was in a good mood.

He had realized that Chu Miao was not completely immune to his charm. She did feel something for him. It was just that she was finding it difficult to accept.

But he would start taking bold actions and making direct moves to express his feelings. He was sure that a decisive person like Chu Miao, once she made up her mind, wouldn’t act coy.

And, the only way to force her to make up her mind about their relationship was to be direct.

"In Peace street. The workshop is in a secluded alley. But it’s still big so you can’t miss it." Ye Xuan answered Chu Miao’s question with a slightly hoarse voice.

They arrived at the workshop in twenty minutes and found the doors tightly closed. The location of the workshop was a bit secluded but there were still zombies around the place.

After getting out of the car and using divine senses to survey the surroundings, Chu Miao made sure that no one was around before letting Chu Hao put the car away in the space.

Ye Xuan used his usual method to open the two huge and heavy wooden doors and pushed them open.

There were no zombies inside, which was a good sign.

The workshop was built in the design of a yard with only one building where delicate materials and chemicals for treating timber and machines were stored.

The rest of the area only had pillars and a roof without any walls.

It was clear that the place was built to prevent the timber and logs from being affected by rain.

There was a significant supply of treated timber that could build several huge houses and also untreated timber.

It was clear that when the apocalypse started, there were people still working overtime to treat it judging by the mixed chemicals still in the mixing machine.

While one side housed the treated and untreated timber, the other side had at least a thousand tonnes of logs.

These logs had not been split yet and turned into timber, but Chu Miao and her companions didn’t care. They could always work in them later.

Chu Hao got busy collecting the timber whereas Chu Miao and Ye Xuan headed to the only building in the yard.

The door wasn’t locked and as they got close, Ye Xuan took large steps forward and made sure that Chu Miao was behind him before pushing the door open.

Seeing what he had done, Chu Miao felt a familiar warmth spread through her heart. She had experienced this feeling a few times before and every time, it was with Ye Xuan when he did something subconsciously to protect her.

She smiled to herself because of the actions of the man. Even though the man knew that she could protect herself, he didn’t take it for granted. He still did what a man was supposed to do and protect the woman he cared about.

Chu Miao’s impression of Ye Xuan had increased yet again. After all, not many men would make such a decision in this situation.

Many people would choose self-preservation and probably even hide behind her and use her as cannon fodder in case of danger.

So, she was happy that Ye Xuan had chosen to put himself at risk and protect her even though he knew that she could find out about the situation inside without putting herself in danger.

After pushing the door open, Ye Xuan didn’t enter immediately but instead stood at the open doorway to survey the inside. At first glance there was no one inside and there didn’t seem to be any danger. However, Ye Xuan could keenly sense that something was wrong. Nevertheless, he didn’t see anything that could pose danger except for gallons of chemicals, some wood samples, and other miscellaneous items.

While he was surveying the inside of the building to determine what made him so uneasy, Chu Miao used her divine sense and discovered the problem immediately.

"There are close to thirty mutated rats inside. Also, there seems to be an entrance where they come through and can also be used as an exit." She said to the man in front of her in a low voice.

This was a discovery she had not expected. Last time they encountered mutated rats, they had talked about finding their nest and eliminating them before they overrun City A, and now they may have come across an opening they could use to achieve their goal.

When Ye Xuan heard what Chu Miao said, he no longer hesitated and entered the building. He found the light switch and clicked it on.

As soon as light flooded the place, the building was brighter than before and they could see everything clearly.

The two walked inside and finally saw the rats.

"They are all level-one mutated rats. They are not too dangerous but you still have to be careful." Ye Xuan said to Chu Miao after observing the rats and determining their danger level.

"Mmm.. you too be careful. Don’t get scratched." Chu Miao replied and also showed some concern for the man.

Ye Xuan felt his heart skip a bit when he heard those words of concern and realized that their relationship had become closer after the last two missions in the Zeyi Mall.

"I will." He replied back and moved forward decisively to attack the rats watching them with red eyes.

Today, they didn’t use weapons but attacked the rats with their superpowers.

Chu Miao wanted to train her water ability and kept attacking with water arrows or turning snowflakes into ninja-like weapons.

However, she soon realized that these rats had a tough skin that couldn’t be broken easily. Her water arrows were not as effective as piercing zombie heads.

Moreover, with every failed attack, the mutated rats seem to be provoked and become more savage. They could jump almost two meters high from the ground making it a challenge to accurately land attacks.
