Chapter 18: Chapter 18 Power Outage_1
“Huff, that’s refreshing.”
In Peng Zhi’s room, the gaming Peng Zhi took a satisfying sip of cold water filled with ice cubes from the fridge that his wife gave him and comfortably exhaled.
Just as he did, he heard his wife’s footsteps approaching and the door opening. He turned to see his wife entering with a bowl of noodles.
Peng Zhi showed a satisfied smile, took the noodles, thanked his wife. Watching her turn around and leave, smashing the door in the process, he felt delighted.
Peng Zhi knew his wife was off to fool around with that idiot Li Ming, and was pleased to watch her leave.
“All the work just for a meal. Now that it’s the end of the world and food is so precious. This life…is great,” thought Peng Zhi.
As Peng Zhi ate his noodles, he felt relaxed. Drinking another sip of cold water, he finished the noodles in just a few bites. He didn’t care that today’s noodles seemed a bit overcooked. Putting the bowl on the table, he lowered his head and continued to play his game.
…
In Li Ming’s room, Zhang Yuan, in a short skirt, allowed Li Ming to touch her pencil-like legs which he held on his lap while she continually thought about what was missing on the table.
She knew that Li Ming was going out, so she expressly asked him what was needed, so he could bring it back for her.
“Right, get some more underwear. Some of the ones I have are old…”
Suddenly Zhang Yuan remembered something, quickly adding it to the list on the paper in front of her. After seeing it contained food, drink, utilities, clothes, safety tools, she nodded satisfyingly, and then passed the paper to the man beside her.
Li Ming glanced at the list. Food consisted of high-energy supplies or canned goods that were easy to store and available at supermarkets. Drinks pointed to soda and bottled water. Utilities and clothes were necessities. After looking at it, he nodded satisfyingly and put the paper away.
“Huff, Li Ming, with all the monsters outside, it’s so dangerous. Aren’t you scared?”
Noticing Li Ming packing, and lying in bed, Zhang Yuan spread her legs slightly and couldn’t help but ask worriedly.
“I’m afraid of dying, but I’ve never been short of courage to fight for my life,” said Li Ming, staring into Zhang Yuan’s eyes with a smile.
Zhang Yuan’s eyes moved slightly, then she took a deep breath, lifted her head, and fiercely kissed Li Ming’s lips.
…
Forty-five minutes later, Zhang Yuan left Li Ming’s room. She cleaned up the chopsticks and bowls in the kitchen and then returned to her room to rest.
Li Ming watched her leave until her skirt vanished from his sight, then he lay alone on the bed before falling asleep, with a little sigh. How good would it be if he had a woman to hold while he slept?
Zhang Yuan went back home and took a quick shower. Knowing her husband would be engrossed in his game, she was no longer anxious. After showering, she went to bed.
Under the moonlight, Peng Zhi saw Zhang Yuan’s slim figure. His body, which had been lying down for ten days, suddenly surged with desire, so he rolled over to take action. However, Zhang Yuan kicked him off. Dumbfounded, he heard Zhang Yuan impatiently tell him to take a bath.
Lost in thought, Peng Zhi realized he hadn’t bathed in a while, which must be why his wife was frustrated with him.
He sighed, feeling the hardship of the apocalypse, then got up to take a thorough shower. After drying his hair, he could no longer restrain his desire and went to find his wife.
Zhang Yuan looked uninterested, closed her eyes and tilted her head.

Dawn arrived.
Just like that, with the rising of the sun, the eleventh day of the apocalypse arrived.
Li Ming woke up early as usual, feeling refreshed as soon as he woke up.
He had gone to bed at half-past nine the night before, and slept till now after resting the whole afternoon of the previous day. He was full of energy.
“Huff, this morning would be the perfect time to go out.”
Li Ming, after stretching his limbs and feeling the energy coursing through his body, couldn’t help but mumble. He felt his fatigue had already been recovered. The only problem was that he was a little hungry.
“It seems that as my body gets stronger, my recovery speed increases.”
Li Ming couldn’t help but think that he had planned to recover for at least two days. Unexpectedly, after an afternoon and a whole night’s sleep, he had completely recovered. This surprise pleased him.
The quicker he recovered, the better his state!
He glanced at the sun outside, got up cheerfully to wash, and just after he finished washing, he heard a light footstep. He turned his head, and sure enough, it was Zhang Yuan.
Li Ming smiled, just about to do something, but he heard Zhang Yuan speak anxiously: “Li Ming, the power’s out.”
“The power’s out?”
Li Ming was stunned for a moment, then suddenly turned his head, only to realize that the fan in his room had stopped spinning at some point.
Li Ming furrowed his brows, tried the light switch, but there was still no response. His voice became somewhat heavy: “It seems the power is really out.”
“Don’t worry, it’s just a power outage, we still have gas. Let’s make breakfast first, and then I’ll go look for some food in the morning, and we’ll think about the next steps.”
Upon seeing Zhang Yuan’s panicked look, Li Ming quickly comforted her with a hug, saying: “Also water, hurry up and fetch as much water as you can, the water supply might also stop if there’s a power outage.”
“Okay, I’ll go and fetch water.”
After hearing Li Ming’s words, Zhang Yuan hurriedly found containers to get water, while Li Ming turned over everything at home, found some pots used for cooking, and used them to fetch water from the kitchen.
After a while, Li Ming looked at the shallow half-pot of water they had managed to collect and helplessly shook his head.
The power’s out, and the water supply has stopped; this is all the water left in the pipes.
Zhang Yuan also came over carrying a bucket, looking a bit disheartened: “Li Ming, what should we do, we only managed to get this much.”
“It’s okay, I have a bucket and three basins of water in the bathroom. I’ve been refreshing them every day, and it’s all good water, enough for us to use.”
Li Ming poured the water from the pot into her bucket and hugged her to comfort her: “You go and cook, use the water from my bucket, it’s a new bucket, the water inside is clean. That water should be used for eating, we’ll conserve the water from the other three basins, using it sparingly for daily life.”
“Okay, I will go and cook.”
Li Ming’s calm words and gentle embrace warmed Zhang Yuan’s heart, which had been sensitive from hearing terrifying zombie cries all night. Feeling like she had a backbone, she felt much more secure. She quickly went to make porridge as Li Ming had suggested.
Li Ming frowned and tried again, finally realizing that the power was indeed out. He quickly went back to his room to tidy up, put his phone into ultra-power-saving mode for standby, thought for a while, and added the radio to the list of things to take with him.
He then found two 20,000mAh power banks, all charged to full, and put them away.
Other than that, the rechargeable flashlight, table lamp, all were fully charged, Li Ming gathered them all together, feeling relieved, then started to contemplate how to handle things in the future.
Power is the most crucial part of modern life. If there’s no power, he’ll definitely need to figure out a way to generate electricity.
Li Ming knew there was a power plant in the city, he didn’t understand why they still had power for ten days after the apocalypse but suddenly lost power today; perhaps the people inside had completely gone on strike?
“We need to find a generator.”
Li Ming thought of this almost instantly. He immediately remembered a cyber café near the community.
If he remembered correctly, there was a generator inside that café, often used to supply power during power outages but how to get it over here was a problem…
“Huh, get the food first and then think about it.”
Li Ming lightly shook his head, his eyes looking towards the sunlit outside, his expression somber.
He suddenly had an idea to get hold of a good car.
The best would be a cash transport-style bulletproof vehicle…
In the apocalypse, having a car like that would give him more room for survival tactics.
Originally, Li Ming had not been thinking this deeply, he just wanted to find some food for survival, but this sudden power outage made him realize that no place is truly safe, not even home.
He must be fully prepared!
“The porridge is ready.”
Suddenly, Zhang Yuan’s voice brought him back to his thoughts. He turned his head and saw that Zhang Yuan had brought over a bowl of porridge.
“Good, you eat too.”
Li Ming took a sip of the porridge, collecting his thoughts. He spoke with a smile, his gaze turning towards the gun and sword by the bed.
Zhang Yuan nodded, she also served herself a bowl of porridge and began eating with some pickles.
Li Ming finished four bowls of porridge before putting his bowl down. He then started to change into sturdy sports shoes, long pants, a belt, a long-sleeved shirt, and added a sun-protective jacket on top.
Zhang Yuan found a sturdy rope for him, tied the sword scabbard around his waist, making it more convenient to draw out.
