Chapter 26: Chapter 25 Special Zombies_1
Having understood this, Zhang Yuan gathered up her courage and walked up to Chen Li, ignoring her husband who was sitting on the bed. She smiled and greeted her, “You…”
“You…”
Neither of them expected the other to speak up first, and they both chuckled immediately afterward.
“Don’t worry, I only come in the evenings. The rest of the time is all yours. Plus, you need to keep your husband company at night, or he might go crazy.”
Chen Li chuckled while looking at the beautiful woman standing before her in a short skirt. Her gaze was clear and straightforward. “You live your life, and I will live mine. As long as we don’t interfere with each other, it’s all good.”
Zhang Yuan saw something in Chen Li’s eyes. The other woman’s gaze was crystal clear, completely devoid of the infatuation she herself felt. A wave of relief washed over her. She wanted to explain the current relationship between her and her husband but ultimately didn’t speak it aloud. Instead, she merely nodded with a smile.
The two women had a brief conversation in the living room. The atmosphere was surprisingly harmonious. Then Zhang Yuan watched Chen Li return to her home.
“Phew…”
Zhang Yuan sighed, afterwards shutting the door and sitting alone in the living room for a while. She glanced back at her room, feeling even more irritated towards her useless husband.
“Wife, wife, who was that woman just now? Why did she come into our house? Is she hoping to borrow some food from us?”
Peng Zhi’s voice echoed from the room. He didn’t seem bothered about being ignored earlier; his mind was more preoccupied with food.
“That’s Li Ming’s woman. Do you really think she’d come to borrow food from you? If she’s concerned about food, she can go out and find some herself. She might even come back with a truckload.”
Zhang Yuan responded with an impatient snort, stood up and walked to the doorway of her room, looking at her husband who was still lying in bed.
“Wife, you’re not infected by that guy Li Ming, are you? It’s dangerous outside, as they say, a gentleman doesn’t stand beneath a dangerous wall. Isn’t it good for us to stay home and borrow food from Li Ming? Why risk going out? You think a smart person like me would do such a foolish thing?”
………
………
………
“Vroom…”
The car drove along the road with Li Ming’s eyes constantly scanning the street, observing any sign of movement.
Thinking back on how he’d taken Chen Li to meet Zhang Yuan brought a faint smile to Li Ming’s lips.
As for Zhang Yuan, he didn’t feel any burden. Their relationship was complicated yet simple—the exchange was merely food for intimacy.
Of course, feelings might be involved to a certain extent, how much so was a matter of perspective.
As for Chen Li, that was a more straightforward transaction, so making the two women meet didn’t weigh on him at all.
Even if it did, it would be only a smidgeon of guilt for Zhang Yuan, considering she seemed to genuinely care for him. But technically, Zhang Yuan was still Peng Zhi’s wife, and he had no obligation towards her. So, how guilty could he feel?
Moreover, he currently held the food and the power, the initiative was his.
As long as he didn’t cross any lines, he could have his way.
In this post-apocalyptic world, it was impossible for him to have only one woman. He sensed Zhang Yuan’s feelings but he needed her to understand—he could accept her but he would not be exclusive to her. She needed to adjust her expectations.
In a world that felt like it had ended, there was no reason for Li Ming to remain faithful to one woman.
Looking at it, everything was going smoothly so far, and it would probably continue smoothly after he left.
If they could not accept each other, an explosion would have occurred at the meeting. If not, then it meant everything was okay.
“Hehe…”
The occasional roar of a zombie on either side of the road brought Li Ming back to reality. He shook his head and concentrated all his attention on maintaining the car’s speed as they headed towards the gas station.
After passing his driving test, Li Ming did not drive much but he had a knack for it, passing the test in one shot. Moreover, in this post-apocalyptic world, there were no traffic police to fine or deduct points, which made driving easy.
Control of the car and weaving through the road took about seven minutes before a gas station came into view.
Upon catching sight of something in the distance, Li Ming’s momentary relaxed demeanor disappeared, replaced by a serious expression.
Li Ming’s eyebrows furrowed as he strained to see what it was, pulling the car to a stop at the roadside far off.
“What is that thing?”
Li Ming squinted, focusing on the figure standing under the gas station canopy—a small zombie, only about 1.5 meters tall, floating in mid-air.
The point was… its feet weren’t touching the ground, it was hovering like it was floating!
Li Ming’s eyebrows furrowed even further as he saw a shadow beneath the floating figure, cast by the sun.
Shadows indicated physical bodies, not specters, so this was indeed a zombie.
But how could it float?
Li Ming carefully looked at the area above, but there was no steel rope or anything tethering it!
“Could it be some special ability?”
Li Ming felt a bit apprehensive. He looked at the eerily bizarre zombie, turned the car to run as a first instinct, planning to deal with the creature when he had a foolproof strategy.
As he just turned the steering wheel, that zombie’s body rotated mid-air, staring at him.
“Heh heh…”
An awful sound came from its body, that zombie was actually hovering in the air as it moved towards Li Ming… Although it was only ten centimeters above the ground, it still counted as flying.
“Damn.”
Li Ming clenched his teeth, cursed under his breath. He looked at the rearview mirror at the dozen or so zombies which had been attracted by his getaway, then at the flying zombie coming at him. There was no time left to turn around; he hardened his heart.
“Damn it, let’s see whether your special ability can outmatch an off-road vehicle.”
Li Ming turned the steering wheel and aimed the vehicle straight at the hovering little zombie, intending to brutally run into it.
Switching to top gear, throttling the engine to its maximum, he hit the gas pedal to the floor!
“Vroom, humm…”
A deep roar echoed as the off-roader sprang forwards like an arrow released from tight bowstrings.
“Heh heh…”
The zombie kept floating towards him, neither dodging nor stepping aside, it just instinctively stretched out its claws to grab the incoming vehicle.
“Vroom…”
Li Ming grabbed a longsword with a steel bar in his hand, which he had taken from a hardware store, jammed it into the gas pedal, steering wheel, and seat, locking them in place. He then opened the car door while holding on with one hand, his eyes fixated on the oncoming zombie.
The distance between him and the zombie was about thirty meters. Thanks to the improved vision after the body enhancements, Li Ming could see the zombie clearly from far away.
This distance was what enabled him to react in time with a series of actions. At this moment, with the two of them getting closer to each other, the thirty-meter gap reduced in an instant.
In a blink of an eye, they were only five meters apart.
Li Ming grit his teeth, yanked open the car door in one swift move, and reached up with one hand to grab the Red Tassel Spear from the roof of the car.
The distance was now down to two meters.
“Swoosh…”
Li Ming, holding the long spear and sword, jumped out of the car door. He quickly steadied himself on the ground and readied his spear in preparation for the battle.
“Bang…”

In a flash, the car and the peculiar zombie hurtled towards each other. The zombie, which was just ten centimeters above the ground, didn’t have time to react. It didn’t even have time to stop its forward momentum. It just glanced at Li Ming before violently colliding with the front of the car.
“Bang…”
The car’s front was instantly dented in. The small zombie was harshly knocked and flew right into a large tree outside the gas station. The car door slammed shut, and an airbag instantly popped out in front. The iron bar that Li Ling had improvised was sprung open, and the car, having lost its power, continued to crash hard into the zombie, keeping it pinned against the tree.
“Boom…”
With a dull sound, the car came to a stop against the tree. The small zombie was hit hard once again.
“Damn it, you’re tough. But even mutation can’t beat technology.”
Li Ming looked at the small zombie that had been flung into the tree and couldn’t help but smirk. But then, he quickly tensed up, and holding his spear tightly, he rushed forward.
This zombie was unlike any he had ever met before. Since he had encountered it, he had to take this opportunity to kill it while he had the upper hand, even if it might be dangerous now.
Otherwise, once it matures, who knows how terrifying it could become.
As he contemplated, Li Ming swiftly reached the front of the car. He looked forward and saw the small zombie’s body was badly damaged, but its head was still twitching.
“This damn thing isn’t dead yet, die for me.”
Li Ming’s lips twitched, he planted his legs firmly, used all his power, and stabbed the spear right into the zombie’s eye.
“Swoosh… ”
The spear thrust forward, creating a piercing sound. But when it was about thirty centimeters from the zombie, Li Ming suddenly felt as if there was a force keeping it from getting nearer.
So that was its ability?
Li Ming’s expression changed instantly, he pushed with all his might. The heavily wounded zombie apparently had no energy to resist Li Ming’s attack any longer, and was run through by his spear.
“Chh…”
With a twist of the spear, the skull which was already severely shattered was lifted opened, and a crystal was flung out.
