Chapter 33: Chapter 31 Differences_1

“Phew~”

After lightly exhaling, Zhang Yuan, who had just washed her face, observed herself in the mirror, nodding in satisfaction. She meticulously fixed a few details of her attire in the mirror, then left the bathroom, began to wait patiently on a chair in the house.

It wasn’t until the voices around her subsided that Zhang Yuan excitedly left her room, closed the door, and headed towards Li Ming’s room.

As soon as she opened the door, however, she saw Li Ming assisting Chen Li as they left the house. Sensing an opportunity, Zhang Yuan dashed into Li Ming’s room to prepare a meal, feigning intense focus and obliviousness to her surroundings.

Her black stockings, light grey professional skirt were even more striking under the sunlight.

While Zhang Yuan was preparing the meal, Li Ming was helping Chen Li, who was unable to walk, out of the house.

“It’s all your fault, are you satisfied now?”

Chen Li looked at the man carrying her, pouted, and grumbled huffily.

“It’s fine, there’s medicine, you’ll get better soon.”

To his surprise, Chen Li could hardly walk anymore.

Seeing her discomfort, Li Ming moved to carry her in his arms, laughing as he headed to her room.

Not pleased, Chen Li gave him a glance, and once he had carried her just a few steps, they had arrived at her front door. Chen Li took out her keys to unlock the door, and without any hesitation, Li Ming carried her straight into the house.

Upon entering the house, Li Ming was immediately hit with a strong sense of home. Compared to his somewhat cluttered shared apartment, Chen Li’s house was incredibly warm which unknowingly slowed his steps.

While carrying Chen Li through the door, Li Ming noticed a woman, who bore a striking resemblance to Chen Li, preparing breakfast in the kitchen. Upon hearing them, she turned to glance their way, then swiftly looked away, avoiding meeting Li Ming’s gaze.

“Just put me on the couch.”

A hint of embarrassment flashed across Chen Li’s face, she then pointed at the sofa and tapped Li Ming’s back, speaking softly.

Li Ming smiled, nodding his head, seemingly unconcerned about the woman in the kitchen. After gently placing Chen Li on the sofa, he turned around and left.

“Phew~”

Seeing Li Ming leave and even shutting the door behind himself, Chen Li breathed a sigh of relief. Glancing at the kitchen, she felt unsure how to face her own mother. After some thought, she bit her lip and walked to her bedroom, glad to see that her daughter was still asleep. She hurriedly laid down on the bed, pretending to be asleep.

After a while, her little girl woke up. With her mother not by her side, she hurriedly clambered onto her, burying her face into her mother’s chest as she drifted back to sleep.

Chen Li was tired too. She fell back asleep, and it wasn’t until around nine in the morning that both mother and daughter woke up. Even then, Chen Li sighed as she noticed that her daughter, still somewhat shaken from witnessing a zombie kill someone, was unusually silent. Smiling, she conversed with her while dressing her up.

Having left Chen Li’s place, Li Ming thought about the burden Chen Li and her mother bore in their home and shook his head.

He now understood completely, Chen Li would not choose to follow him wholeheartedly, like Zhang Yuan did. All the beautiful plans he had in his heart faded away.

Shaking his head, he closed the door to Chen Li’s room. He then touched the sword he always kept by his side and glanced at the staircase, silently returning to his shared apartment.

When he entered the room, he saw Zhang Yuan in black stockings and a business skirt in his bedroom, his eyes went wide.

‘These two really are different.’

This thought crossed his mind, and thereupon, Li Ming strode forward with heated eyes.

Zhang Yuan was tantalizing enough bare-legged, never mind in this getup. Wasn’t this clearly an attempt to distract him from his training?

Damned woman, who needed to be taught a lesson!

Barely after she started washing the rice in the pot, Zhang Yuan was scooped up in a strong pair of arms and carried onto the bed.

………

………

By half-past eight, Zhang Yuan’s stockings had mysteriously disappeared, with only remnants left in the trash can. She no longer dared to mess around, instead sitting properly with her legs crossed atop Li Ming’s as they ate breakfast together.

Li Ming ate his breakfast contentedly, feeling very open-minded and at peace.

“Li Ming, how about I take some of those drill bits to Sister Li later on and ask her to help polish them?”

Having finished being mischievous, Zhang Yuan was now beginning to consider Li Ming’s affairs. While eating, she raised the question.

Her main reasoning was that many hands make light work, and since Chen Li was one of them, it wouldn’t hurt to have her help with some tasks.

“That works, with more people it will go faster.”

Li Ming responded casually after taking a sip of porridge. Zhang Yuan, happy that her suggestion was accepted, finished her breakfast, and with her short skirt flaring as she stood up, she washed the dishes. Then she picked up a small box of drill bits and headed towards Chen Li’s house.

“Knock, knock, knock…”

Zhang Yuan knocked on the peephole of the door. Before long, Chen Li appeared in the doorway. She smiled at Chen Li, revealing her teeth: “Sister Li, Li Ming needs these things to kill zombies. I’m a bit slow doing it on my own, so I thought maybe you could help polish them too, is that okay?”

“Sure, I have nothing else to do anyway. Give it to me, I’ll polish them at home and give them to you later.”

Chen Li smiled and took the box from Zhang Yuan, waved goodbye, and watched as Zhang Yuan returned to her shared apartment with Li Ming. After closing the door, Chen Li carried the box to the bathroom and opened it to find more than twenty steel drill bits of various shapes and sizes.

Having finished her meal, Chen Li picked up a whetstone, splashed some water on it, and, wearing the gloves that Zhang Yuan had left in the box, began to polish the bits.

Upon hearing the sound, Chen Li’s daughter ran into the bathroom and squatted on the floor, silently watching her mother at work.

Chen Li’s mother followed the little girl in and, seeing her daughter being busy, took a drill bit and started polishing without saying a word.

Chen Li handed the gloves to her mother: “Mom, wear these, I’ll get another pair.”

“I don’t need them, that woman is thoughtful and doesn’t want to hurt your hands, but polishing things can’t hurt my hands.”

Chen Li’s mother didn’t look up as she spoke softly. She then looked at her daughter: “I just want to remind you, Xiao Xing has contributed a lot to our family. He is good to you, to all of us. I know it’s not easy for you, you’re just trying to survive, and you can’t expect others to help us for no reason. But I hope you don’t forget the past.”

“Mom, I know.”

Chen Li pursed her lips, her expression complicated. Then she bowed her head and, clenching her teeth, continued to sharpen the drills.

………

When Zhang Yuan returned home after delivering the things, Li Ming had already completed his telekinetic training and was practicing his boxing techniques in the room. Zhang Yuan smiled at him and then, carrying her small stool, sat outside the kitchen door in her miniskirt and began to polish her drills, occasionally looking at Li Ming practicing his boxing, a smile on her face.

“Huff, puff…”

Li Ming continually exhaled from his mouth, executing different types of punches – hack punch, backfist, uppercut, jab, horizontal punch – each move smoothly transitioning from one to the next. His understanding improved with each move, and his boxing skills were becoming more refined.

The hack punch was heavy, the backfist was deadly, the uppercut was ferocious, the jab was explosive, and the horizontal punch flowed like water.

All these different forces generated by Li Ming led him to find that the horizontal punch was similar to the rifle technique in defense; both could break open defenses. The backfist, uppercut, and jab were all related to the force of stabbing with a gun or spear, all were aggressive moves. Although the hack punch was different, it was still related, and it was about the burst of power, but the former three were about applying direct force while the hack punch was about applying dynamic force.

Thus, he managed to apply his experience with sword and spear techniques to enhance his boxing skills. Natural progress was quick with his fists flying around, and the improvement was visible.

He kept practicing like this until noon when Zhang Yuan started cooking lunch, and Li Ming stopped.

“Huff~”

Li Ming exhaled. He decided to rest a bit to regenerate his stamina, so he could continue training after lunch.

Having taken off his sweaty clothes, Li Ming went to the bathroom and wiped the sweat off his body with a wet towel. He changed into clean clothes and drank some water while comfortably waiting for Zhang Yuan to finish cooking lunch.
