Chapter 58: Chapter 49: Discovering the Gathering Place_1
“Thank goodness I didn’t rashly drive through.”
With the sun high in the sky, Li Ming, carefully navigating his electric tricycle, watched the scene ahead littered with zombies and chaos vehicles, feeling a lingering fear.
The road he was on was a convenient path from the residential area to the Linjiang villa area. Under normal circumstances, he would have instinctively chosen this road.
But now…looking at the scattered debris, cars, and the crowded mob of zombies on the road, Li Ming understood clearly that unless he was driving a tank, he would be stuck here, face-to-face with a throng of zombies.
“I don’t know what they are up to, not going out during the day but gathering here in the middle of the night.”
Looking at the group of various zombies in his line of sight, Li Ming muttered to himself. He eagerly observed three special zombies amongst the others; one periodically emitted flames, another occasionally spat water, and the last one had a metallic sheen.
These were easily noticed oddities in his view. For a moment, he couldn’t help but pay attention and feel a sense of greed.
If I could remove them, would I not gain three different powers at once?
However, looking at the densely packed zombies ahead, Li Ming sighed, realizing it was not the right time. Acquiring these three power genes would require a more long-term plan.
Lost in thought, Li Ming carefully veered his tricycle off to another side of the street, moving away from this route and exploring alternative roads.
While remaining vigilant about potential dangers, he was also searching for a viable route for the truck to progress.
There were five routes from his residential area to the Linjiang villa area suitable for truck passage. After Li Ming’s exploration, three were found inaccessible due to various reasons.
Only two roads were seemingly passable, and the zombies spread along them were sparse and already dealt with during his scouting process.
“Two more kilometres, and I’ll reach the Linjiang villa area.”
Riding his tricycle, Li Ming nibbled on some food to satiate his hunger while focusing on the street details through his binoculars, mumbling to himself.
The journey from the residential area to Linjiang villa area was long and had surpassed lunchtime. He was now munching on some quick snacks to stave off hunger. Thankfully, Zhang Yuan had packed some biscuits and water for him.
Hiding in the shadow of a buildings to rest, replenishing his energy with food and water, Li Ming was also observing the surroundings from the rooftop of a vehicle.
This place was close to the Linjiang villa area where buildings aren’t as densely packed as they are in the city centre. Strips of three-story houses were even spaced out along some of the lesser-known roads.
He scanned these buildings with his binoculars before unexpectedly halting at a residential building with a roof deck.
A few men and women appeared in his field of vision through the lens of the binoculars. Li Ming was taken aback after seeing them.
“There are… so many people here?”
Li Ming was initially surprised to see several men and women on the roof. However, when he adjusted his binoculars to focus on the room under the roof deck, he was astonished to see the view through the all-glass window.
The precision of the binoculars was excellent. Even from this distance, Li Ming could see many shadowy figures moving about. At a glance, he counted dozens.
The place seemed to be a large dining room which was very spacious. Colourful mats were spread across one large area with people seated on every one of them. The mats covered a significant area.
Li Ming was taken aback by the number of people inside. He seemed to have glimpsed men holding weapons, baffling him about the situation inside.
“Could this be a self-created gathering spot?”
Li Ming couldn’t help but study it in detail, but he could only vaguely make out people holding weapons, clustered in groups of twos and threes. He couldn’t really ascertain whether it was a formal army or a temporary organization set up by the residents.
However, through some of the scenes inside, he could guess that there must be some level of organization.
Unable to resist, he observed more intently to suddenly notice a man walk up to the mat square, raising something and seeming to speak loudly.
“It looks like they have food storage…”
Immediately, Li Ming focussed his binoculars on the item the man was holding up. Seeing it was a packet of instant noodles, he murmured to himself while also wondering if this place also had access to underground water.
Otherwise, how would they manage the tremendous water needs of so many people just with bottled water?
Li Ming pondered inwardly while observing the man holding up the package of instant noodles. He noticed the man looking in a particular direction and followed his gaze through his binoculars.
Through the binoculars, he saw a woman standing up from her bedding, with a man watching from behind her. She approached the man holding the noodles and took the package from him.

The man with the noodles promptly and boldly put his arms around the woman, then they walked off to the side together.
“… It seems food is really scarce.”
Li Ming silently revised his understanding of this group as he watched the man take the woman straight to the roof of the building.
He also confirmed that this couldn’t be a proper government organization, because even if such things occurred, they wouldn’t be this blatantly open about it!
Li Ming held up the binoculars, and watched unwaveringly as the man caressed the woman for over ten minutes.
Afterwards, the woman cleaned herself up, dressed, took the instant noodles, and left. She returned to the bed she had left earlier, opened the noodles, and began eating.
She even shared the meal with the man who appeared to be her husband.
“It’s not easy for a non-official organization to gather so many people.”
After observing a bit more, Li Ming noticed there were slightly more women than men. Unable to discern anything else, he put down his binoculars, an odd look in his eyes.
If he were being honest, the scene he just witnessed stirred something within him.
“Should I go check it out?”
Li Ming was momentarily tempted, but quickly suppressed the impulse.
“Forget it. It’s unclear what the situation is like there. Even though I’m strong, reckless actions could lead to attacks. I’m not invincible. Putting myself in danger would be unwise.”
“Moreover, my main goal now is to reach the Villa District.”
With these thoughts in mind, Li Ming took one last thorough look at the gathering place, memorizing its location with precision.
He took a screenshot of its location on his offline map, compared it to his current location, and circled the building in red on the edited image.
Only after he had packed up his gear did he cast one last look in that direction, before setting off to explore further.
He was only two kilometers away from Linjiang Villa District. The journey went by quickly with his careful exploration.
The Villa District finally came into sight.
“Finally made it, this route seems to be the safest.”
Upon seeing the Villa District in front of him, Li Ming breathed a sigh of relief. His earlier tension significantly reduced, but considering the vast clean villas ahead, he decided to explore the Villa District properly while he was alone and unrestricted.
Otherwise, it would be more trouble when Zhang Yuan and Chen Li’s family arrived.
“Better check it out first.”
After a moment’s hesitation, Li Ming decided not to rush back. Instead, he rode his electric scooter towards the villa’s entrance guarded by barriers.
“Hmm hmm…”
Five or six zombies dressed as security guards were gathered at the entrance. Li Ming stopped his scooter well in advance, took out his weapon from the back, and swiftly killed them.
Then he found the barrier’s control button, opened the barrier, rode his scooter in, closed the barrier behind him, and entered the Villa District.
Upon entering the Villa District, he was met with wide, clean asphalt roads, beautifully landscaped greenery on both sides where villas were placed at a distance of fifty meters from the road, and dedicated passage and sound-insulating green belts between the villas and the main road.
Li Ming drove into the first villa on the left and proceeded along the driveway to find a courtyard covering approximately one acre, filled with a variety of flora he didn’t recognize.
The courtyard was surrounded by a spacious parking area with five different luxury cars parked. Li Ming’s gaze shifted to the villa, where several zombies dressed in fine clothes came into view.
