Beast Tamer Ascension-Chapter 26Book 4: : Ran into a Ghost
Vol 4 Chapter 26: Ran into a Ghost
Lin Jing felt that what the Thunder Dragon Ancestor said made sense.
At this point, it wasn’t just some pet-raising game within his sect anymore. These creatures were now beast prodigies recognized across the entire continent—they couldn’t keep going around with childish nicknames. They needed proper, imposing names that truly represented them.
He had just been about to ask the Thunder Dragon Ancestor if there were any powerful fortune masters in the Western Desert, when the Tiger Fang given to him by the Demon Emperor activated.
“It’s His Majesty the Demon Emperor.”
Lin Jing motioned for the Thunder Dragon Ancestor to keep quiet for a moment.
“Did you get the Golden Light Gu?”
After pulling out the Tiger Fang, the Demon Emperor’s voice came through.
“I did not fail you.”
“Good. Little Carp has also broken through—you’ve probably sensed it already.”
“Mm-hmm. I even saw its achievement.” Lin Jing looked up at the sky.
“...” The Demon Emperor paused for a moment and said, “Immortal Flame really is powerful. That monk didn’t stand a chance. But the backlash from it is equally intense—even a rare beast with Ancestor-tier bloodline couldn’t fully handle it.”
“In any case, come to the Immortal-Burying Volcano. I’m waiting with it outside.”
With that, the Demon Emperor ended the communication.
Lin Jing looked a little weirded out—what happened exactly?
He probed around, and once he confirmed that Dragon Carp was still alive, he relaxed.
With the Demon Emperor nearby, how could anything have gone wrong?
“Looks like it’s time to return to Qingzhou. Let’s go meet up with His Majesty the Demon Emperor.” he said to the Thunder Dragon Ancestor.
“We’re not going after Elder Wind Gu anymore???” the Thunder Dragon Ancestor blinked.
Lin Jing shook his head. “It’s been so long with no sign of him. He was probably driven off and fled the Western Desert. After all, this is Buddhist territory. Failing once means there’s little chance of a second try.”
“Alright then...” The Thunder Dragon Ancestor nodded. Great—first the ghost incident, now this wasted search. He was starting to realize he really wasn’t cut out for tracking people down.
“Once we return, I’ll have the Ice Soul Gu devour the Golden Light Gu...”
“Also, I’ll use the Demon Court’s power to help you investigate ancient matters—please don’t worry.”
Lin Jing looked at the red figure inside the flying ship.
The Ghost Bride.
After leaving Golden Light Temple, Lin Jing couldn’t bear her power sealed anymore, so he released her from the Buddha-Demon Pearl.
Since she was also an incredibly strong combatant, Lin Jing had asked her to stick around temporarily in case she could help fight Gu God Sect elders.
But now that they’d given up searching for Elder Wind Gu and were preparing to leave the Western Desert, it was time to part ways.
“Thank you.” The Ghost Bride nodded, then vanished into the void. They had fulfilled each other’s part of the contract…
“Let’s go.”
As he watched her disappear, Lin Jing sighed softly. He felt he had a strong connection with the Ghost Bride—a connection that surely wouldn’t end here.
Soon after.
Outside the Immortal-Burying Volcano.
This region around the Immortal-Burying Volcano, much like the Misty Forest, was nearly cut off from the outside world. The extreme heat was so intense that even spiritual sense was scorched just by releasing it.
Even though they hadn’t yet reached the volcano itself, Lin Jing already felt an immense pressure—like his whole body was melting.
Thankfully, the Thunder Dragon Ancestor cast spells to shield them from the heat.
Upon arrival, Lin Jing and his group successfully reunited with the Demon Emperor.
“Dragon Carp...”
Immediately afterward, they saw the charred remains of a grilled fish lying by the Demon Emperor’s feet.
“Your Majesty... this...”
Lin Jing, expecting to see a smug, bragging Dragon Carp, one who couldn’t wait to show off to Pine Leaf Mouse and Ice Soul Gu, was instead handed a half-cooked fish straight from the Demon Emperor’s hand.
“It was fighting a monk earlier and fused a flame that reached Immortal Flame level—it severely injured the monk.”
“But the power of the Immortal Flame was too strong. It suffered some backlash itself. It’s not fatal, but it’ll probably need time to recover.”
“I underestimated how terrifying Immortal Flame truly is...” the Demon Emperor said casually.
“Your Majesty, please do something!” Lin Jing clutched his heart.
“Even with your power, you can’t heal Immortal Annihilation Wounds?”
“No, letting it recover on its own is better. That way, it can gradually learn to master the Immortal Flame,” explained the Demon Emperor.
She folded her arms, looking completely unconcerned with Dragon Carp’s condition.
“Well...” If it was for Dragon Carp’s own good, then it had no choice but to suffer a bit longer.
Beside him, in Lin Jing’s body, the Ice Soul Gu secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Thankfully Dragon Carp was unconscious right now.
Otherwise, given that it had broken through and made it onto the list first, it would definitely have rubbed it in everyone’s face.
“What about that Dao Hui monk?” Lin Jing suddenly asked.
“Don’t tell me he burned to death??”
Lin Jing asked nervously. He’d held back and didn’t kill the guy—if he ended up dying to Dragon Carp, that would be so unlucky.
Facing Immortal Flame, Lin Jing had already suffered backlash himself. Wouldn’t Dao Hui have had it even worse?
“He’s fine. That monk had a life-saving item and was taken away by a bald guy from the Solar Temple,” said the Demon Emperor, signaling Lin Jing not to worry.
“Looks like it’ll still be a while before Dragon Carp can start refining pills,” said Lin Jing.
“No rush. The spiritual energy around Immortal-Burying Volcano is dense. It’ll actually help it recover and grasp the Immortal Flame more easily. For now, stay here with it. Once it has a basic mastery of Immortal Flame, then return to Qingzhou.”
The Demon Emperor added, “Once it’s familiar with Immortal Annihilation, it should be able to refine a Transformation Pill that allows Demon Ancestors to take human form. At its current condition, even if it returns, it wouldn’t be able to refine any high-grade pills.”
“Understood.” Lin Jing nodded, then asked, “What about you, Your Majesty?”
“This avatar of mine will remain in the Western Desert—but I won’t be sticking around with you. That bald guy who rescued the little monk earlier came to me with something—just going to catch up with an old friend,” said the Demon Emperor casually. “Before I leave, I’ll draw a barrier around this area for your group to operate safely.”
Lin Jing was speechless. That bald guy… don’t tell me it’s the head of the Buddhist Sect, the current Solar Buddha?
……
In the following days, Lin Jing stayed by Dragon Carp’s side as it recovered.
It remained unconscious the whole time.
During this period, the most energetic one was Ice Soul Gu. After seeing Dragon Carp make the list, it got hyped up and wanted to go out and solo some prodigies, ready to throw hands—but Lin Jing held it down.
“You’re just a little Core Formation Stage Gu. What prodigy are you gonna fight? Wait till you reach Nascent Soul at least.”
At that moment, Lin Jing had no idea—after leaving him, the Ghost Bride hadn’t returned to Ghost City, but had instead started wandering the Western Desert alone.
Though Lin Jing had offered to help, she still wanted to search for traces of her past herself.
Until—
Up in the sky, the Ghost Bride spotted the silhouette of a female cultivator with a sword, and her gaze suddenly turned hazy.
“That looks like...
“That back looks familiar.”
She descended swiftly.
At the same time, having just slain a demonic beast and arrived from the Ancient Kingdom to exorcise demons, the Cold Moon Sword Immortal Feng Ning noticed a powerful ghost entity suddenly appear. Her expression shifted.
“Quick, use the sword intent Master gave us to save our life!” the Sword Spirit exclaimed nervously, eyes locked on the Ghost Bride. But what the Ghost Bride said next stunned the Sword Spirit.
“Is that you... husband?”
Cold Moon Sword Immortal, Sword Spirit: Who are you talking to?
“Ran into a ghost.”
Cold Moon Sword Immortal’s mind went blank. She felt like she’d literally—and figuratively—just run into a ghost.
