Chapter 66: Third round of the competition

Classes continued as usual as time passed but Alex felt that something was very different. The most obvious was the way the students were now behaving towards him.

No one was throwing him disdainful glances as usual or saying anything to mock him. During classes, some teachers even tried to make him interact in class by asking him questions.

The way that the students looked at him had also changed; some had fear, and some had admiration in their eyes; it was something that Alex wasn’t used to.

What he didn’t know was that after the competition yesterday, the majority of the students and teachers had been convinced.

Alex was the real deal!

To be precise, his rare element was the real thing. It would be stupid of them to continue treating him like they used to, especially now that he wasn’t trash anymore and was even amongst the strongest now; if not the strongest already. Some were debating who would win between him and goddess Laura.

That aside, the students had concluded after watching Fabio’s miserable fate yesterday. They had to stop treating Alex like they used to.

Those who had bullied him or openly ridiculed him had become fearful; they started to avoid Alex because they feared that he would come to seek revenge on them. Others who had not done anything bad in particular to him were now thinking of how to get closer to him.

As for the teachers, they wanted to amend their wrong actions over the years. They had neglected Alex and discriminated against him, turning a blind eye to his predicament and even scolding him when he reported about what the students were doing.

They felt that they had been blind and wanted to make up by becoming friendly with Alex.

After all, with what Alex had displayed so far, he was bound to make a good performance during the tournament and would definitely be noticed by scouts of big magic universities.

Alex might even get the chance to leave Balon City to go study outside if a very powerful magic university takes notice of him. His future was set, and he was bound to become a notable figure in future.

Who wouldn’t want to form a connection with such a person while they have yet to grow? It was simply investing without putting in any real money, they would be able to achieve something in future if Alex remembered them.

After all, while Balon City was a huge City with lots of people, it was sort of a backwater place and didn’t even have a single magic university in it.

As time went by, Alex began to notice this as well. Some people who had never bothered to talk to him during their years in the academy and had ignored his existence now took the initiative to greet him.

Some girls even tried to ask him out after they ran into Alex in the hallway.

Alex found their actions amusing, did they really think he was so easy to fool? They wanted to get close to him now that he was showing results. Big dreams!

Alex wore a deadpan expression on his face as he ignored all of the students who tried to communicate with him and his tone was emotionless as he answered the teachers who asked him questions during class.

If anything, Alex was happy that a certain teacher was still stubborn and still shot him the same hateful glare when they met.

Teacher Arnold!

’Very well, I’ll see what your expression will be like after I defeat your favourite student.’ Alex thought to himself as he made his way toward the field.

After attending one class after another, it was finally time for the third round of the competition. The number of students had reduced significantly after the previous two rounds of the competition; today’s matches would be over quickly.

Reaching the field, Alex found a spot that was close to the ring and sat down. Some of the students spotted him and immediately came to sit close to him.

"Hello there, Senior Alex. Can we sit with you?" A pretty female student with large pairs that threatened to burst out from her uniform asked with a smile as she tucked her hair behind her ears. Her smile was so dazzling that most boys their age would definitely find themselves stuttering and lost in her beauty but this wouldn’t work on Alex.

He turned to stare at the group of five girls and with an expressionless face, he said.

"Scram." His tone was as cold as a hundred-year-old iceberg and sent shivers down the bodies of the students; they immediately recreated with fearful looks.

"S-sorry for disturbing you."

" We’ll leave, we’ll leave!"

"Go quickly, this place is too cold!"

The girls whispered to one another as they were frightened away by Alex. Alex snorted and didn’t pay them any more attention.

While many of the students already started to see Alex in a different light, there would always be some stubborn ones who still didn’t feel convinced.

A boy with a handsome appearance, short white hair, pretty blue eyes, and a pale white cloak around his shoulders stared at Alex from another side of the seating area. He had a calm look on his face and his eyes showed arrogance as he stared at Alex.

"Just a bit of attention and he’s already acting like some big shot, hmph!" The boy snorted silently before moving his gaze away.

The competition soon started and students were being called down to the ring.

The students watched the fights between the students but their topic of discussion was still Alex!

Who was going to be Alex’s next opponent? Was Alex going to lose? Who was stronger between Alex and their goddess Laura?

The students discussed excitedly, some students who sat close to Alex’s position even praised him loudly, trying to make a favourable impression on Alex.

Seeing that Alex didn’t react to what they said, the students didn’t give up and even began to glorify him as the strongest student. They went as far as arguing with Laura’s fans.

Alex completely ignored all of this, his attention was on the students fighting in the ring.

After a few more fights, his number was finally called and he went up to the ring.

Unlike the previous times when he had received waves of ridicule from the students, many of them cheered for him enthusiastically. For a moment, the field was filled with voices that were cheering for him.

Ignoring all of this, Alex slowly walked to the stage and waited for his opponent who soon appeared. It was a boy who looked to be around 17 and had a red cloak attached to the shoulders of his uniform. From the shade of his cloak, one could tell that the student was a year three student.

"Begin!" The teacher gave the command, and the students watched with anticipation for what would happen next.

However, they didn’t see the student rush to attack Alex nor did Alex summon his stars.

"I-i surrender." A weak voice sounded from the stage, stunning everyone.

The spectating students immediately went into an uproar after recovering from their shock.

Alex’s opponent had surrendered!
