Chapter 103: He Needs To Boost Her Confidence
Seeing her face suddenly stiffen and slightly pale, Sawyer no longer wanted to tease her. He could tell she was nervous now.
"My mother heard about you from my father, but since I didn’t tell them any details, they don’t know anything about you," He chuckled lightly before continuing, "They’ve asked me several times, but I always ignored their questions." He paused as he noticed she was less tense.
"Abby, I promise I won’t pressure you until you are ready," Sawyer spoke again after seeing her reluctant to say anything. "And I hope that doesn’t take too long because my mother asks about you every day." He grinned.
Abigail breathed a sigh of relief to hear him. She wasn’t ready to meet Sawyer’s family. She felt she needed to improve herself first; being a barista at a small café wasn’t something she wanted them to know.
She didn’t want Sawyer to face criticism for being in a relationship with an ordinary girl like her. She also wanted to erase "Snow" from her name. Until then, she wouldn’t allow him to tell his family anything about her.
"Abby, when are you ready to meet my mother?" Sawyer asked softly, checking to see if she had changed her mind.
Abigail felt pressured again upon hearing his question.
"I told you before, please give me more time. I’m trying to become the best version of myself to stand beside you, Sawyer. But not now; I lack confidence. And you know my plan to change my name, right?"
Sawyer nodded, aware that she intended to erase "Snow" from her name. He had already scheduled an appointment with his lawyer to help her file the necessary paperwork with the court. It was a simple matter, and he didn’t have to worry about it. However, he still needed to boost her confidence, which was challenging for him.
"I chose you because you are the best woman I have ever met, Abby. You don’t have to prove that to anyone, including my family. Just trust me, okay?"
"I know, and I trust you," Abigail replied with a smile, appreciating how desperately he tried to convince her. She understood that Sawyer never took her for granted. However, she still didn’t want him to become the subject of gossip among his friends or family.
"Still, I need more time..." Abigail quickly changed the subject, not wanting to make him look even sadder. "Sawyer, Grandma seems to know about you. When I spoke to her earlier, she insisted that I take you to see her."
Sawyer’s expression slowly brightened. He had wanted to do that when Abigail told him she liked him, too—he wanted to meet her grandmother.
"I’m super happy to know that," Sawyer’s grin widened. "But, how did she know?" he asked.
"I don’t know. But she asked me to bring her grandson-in-law this weekend," Abigail said, smiling as she noticed Sawyer suddenly grin. "So, I told her to pray, to let God allow me to meet a handsome man..."
Sawyer laughed at her words but gradually faded as he remembered something.
"Oh, Abby, I have an idea. Why don’t you just be honest with your Grandma? I wouldn’t mind if you told her about me now." He felt disappointed that Abigail hadn’t shared their relationship with her grandmother.
Abigail didn’t respond immediately, adding a sense of tension to him.
"I’m serious, Abby. You can tell your Grandma or all your friends that you are in a relationship with me."
"Sawyer, I wanted to surprise Grandma when we arrived and meet her later. It wouldn’t be as exciting to tell her about us now over the phone, would it?"
"Hmm, you’re right," Sawyer said, his smile returning at her words. "What about your friends?"
"If they ask, I will tell them...It would sound silly if I told them when they are not asking," she said sincerely. After what happened in the café today, she felt it necessary to declare that she had a boyfriend. She didn’t want Kian to pressure her again like he had earlier.
Sawyer’s smile is even broader and more visible.
They continue talking about a few more things, mostly trivial ones, on the news. Soon, he noticed her yawning multiple times.
"Abby, you need to get some rest now. I’ll call you again tomorrow before you go to the café, okay?"
"Okay..."
After they exchanged sweet lines, Abigail finally ended the video call, and her smile lingered. Even though it was just a video call, her face radiated happiness after speaking with him. She felt much better and had completely forgotten what happened in the café.

Abigail felt like someone had glued her eyelids shut; she couldn’t open her eyes and felt incredibly heavy.
She tossed her cell phone into the corner of the bed and fell asleep. However, a buzzing sound soon woke her. Her eyes shot open in annoyance as she glanced at her phone.
Lazily, she reached for it and was shocked to see Lana’s name displayed on the screen.
’This is unusual. Why did Lana call me this late?’ Abigail wondered, checking the digital clock on the bedside table. It was almost midnight. She sat and answered the call.
"Girl, thank goodness you’re still awake..." Lana’s hoarse voice came through on the other end.
"My goodness, Boss Lana! I was just about to sleep when your call woke me up," Abigail playfully protested. "Why did you call me this late? Did something happen?"
"Abigail, I’m so sorry..." Lana sounded genuinely guilty. She regretted not keeping her promise to help her at the café until it closed.
"Sorry? For what...? I don’t think you did anything wrong today... or did you?" Abigail chuckled, trying to tease her.
"Damn it! I felt so bad for what I did. But Kian Blake made me not have the energy to wake up. He’s such a beast, Abigail. I’m sorry I didn’t stay with you until the café closed when I had to accompany you as usual. I fell asleep after, you know... Having sex so many times..." Lana said casually.
However, Abigail almost choked. Hearing Lana’s vulgar words, she felt her face turn warm.
