Chapter 96: Abigail’s Unsettling Thoughts

When she ended Sawyer’s call, Abigail was shocked to hear a man’s voice from behind.

"Your giggle is cute. What makes you giggle like that, pretty lady?"

She turned to look at the door and saw Kian enter the staff lounge, smiling at her.

"Funny reels..." Only a half smile frames her lips as she responds to his words. She stops charging her cell phone and places it in her locker. After she locks the locker door, she returns her attention to Kian again.

"What a coincidence, Abigail... I also like watching funny reels. May I know your Instagram? I’ll follow you and open you to the opportunity of my thousands of followers..." Kian asked snobbly while settling on the sofa. His eyes were still fixed on Abigail, and he was waiting for her to respond.

Abigail was stunned.

She didn’t expect this man to ask her that question and bragged about his account simultaneously. Even Sawyer had never inquired about her Instagram account or told her his Instagram, let alone brag about his Instagram account if he has any.

Abigail does have an Instagram account, but it is private. She hadn’t shared her private Instagram with anyone; not even Ryland knew about it. She dislikes sharing her private life on social media, so she created the account to watch exciting reels and stay updated on trending news worldwide.

"Finish your shift?" Abigail asked politely to divert from his question.

"Yes, you don’t have to rush to go outside, Abigail," Kian said, gesturing for her to sit on the sofa opposite him. Let’s talk first. I need to know you more..." He smiled.

Abigail felt uncomfortable under his gaze and decided to ignore him once again. The strange feeling she felt when she first saw him again flooded her mind. For some reason, being alone with Kian made her anxious and uncomfortable.

"I’m sorry, Kian, but I need to discuss something with Lana," she replied hurriedly before leaving the staff lounge.

...

Abigail felt relieved as she approached Lana at the front counter.

"Huh!? Why are you coming here so fast? We don’t have any customers right now," Lana said, surprised to see Abigail coming to the counter. She remembered telling Kian to let Abigail rest for a while and that she would handle the front counter.

"Nothing particular. I just felt so full of energy and already rested enough this morning. Boss Lana, I could clearly see you are the one who needs more break," Abigail teased as she leaned in closer. "You can have fun with him while I handle the work here."

Seeing Lana’s blushing cheeks, Abigail smiled and said, "Boss, Lana, this is the first time you two have seen each other again after so many weeks, right!?"

Lana tried to adjust her expression because now she could feel her cheeks warming. She was too embarrassed to say anything because Abigail could guess what she was thinking, and she could only nod in response.

Abigail couldn’t hold her teasing smile as she continued, "So, what are you waiting for, Boss!? Go upstairs and spend some time with him."

"Abigail, you..." Lana felt too shy to finish her sentence. What Abigail said was something she could barely get out of her mind. She wanted to spend time just with Kian, but she couldn’t show affection right now because they needed to focus on work, and she didn’t want other staff to see them together.

Lana pulled Abigail close and whispered, "Girl, seriously? Do you really think you can handle the café alone?"

Abigail nodded quickly, a proud smile slowly forming on her lips as she said, "Of course I can. This isn’t the first time I’ve stood in this café alone, right?"

"You’re right about that, girl," Lana chuckled, standing up straight again. She lowered her voice and said, "Alright, I’ll go upstairs with him for a while. But I’ll come back to help you tonight. How does that sound?"

"Sounds perfect, Boss," Abigail replied with an amused smile, noticing how crimson Lana’s face had become. "Go on, don’t keep him waiting." She wink at her. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

As Lana disappeared through the back door, Abigail let out a faint sigh. Once more, she tried to dismiss her unsettling thoughts about Kian. Perhaps she was viewing him too negatively, making her uncomfortable around him.

Abigail slowly shook her head, attempting to set aside the negative aura she associated with Kian. After all, he would soon be her co-worker, and they would be seeing each other more often. It would be better to change her perspective about him—after all, he was Lana’s love interest.

"Sis Abigail..." Erica’s voice pulled Abigail out of her thoughts.

She turned to see Erica. "Yes?"

"We have two orders coming, Sis," Erica grinned, pointing to the order list next to the coffee maker.

Abigail hurriedly immersed herself in her work.

Meanwhile, in the staff room,

Lana stood at the door, watching Kian sit on the sofa, his head resting against it and his eyes closed. His relaxed position made Lana’s heart race, and she felt an overwhelming urge to throw herself into his arms.

"Kian, if you’re sleepy, you should go upstairs and rest. I’ll join you soon," she said softly, glancing around to ensure no one could hear her. When he opened his eyes and saw her, she smiled widely. "Go ahead! I won’t be long. I just need to finish something in my office."

Kian stood up from the sofa and walked over to her, smiling as he stopped before her.

"Are you sure? What about work?" he asked, his hand slowly reaching up to gently touch her cheek, making her heart race even faster.

She quickly checked behind her, but no one was in sight. Looking into his eyes, she replied, "Abigail can handle it. I miss you, and we have a few hours to rest upstairs."

Her enticing words made Kian lean closer, capturing her lips in a kiss that shocked her with its intensity, like fireworks exploding inside her. However, before she could fully respond, he pulled away.

"Alright, I won’t refuse your offer, Boss Lana," Kian said with a smile, his gaze steady on hers. "Just don’t keep me waiting too long; I really miss you and can’t hold myself anymore to touch you..."

Lana felt her face grow hot and her heart race. She smiled back at him before hurriedly heading to her office.
