Chapter 83: What is the real truth?

Elijah’s pov ;

I pulled out my phone to dial Thomas’s number. It rang for what felt like an eternity before he finally answered.

"Thomas, I need a final report on that accident," I stated firmly, gripping the phone tighter. "I want to know every detail about Ash’s whereabouts before and after the incident. Did he sustain any injuries as well?"

There was a heavy sigh on the other end of the line. "Elijah, I included everything I found in the last report I gave you. I combed through all the evidence and witness statements."

"I need you to go deeper this time," I insisted. "Leave no stone unturned."

After a brief pause, he agreed. "Alright, I’ll dig deeper and see what else I can uncover."

I ended the call just as Ash emerged from the shower, droplets of water cascading down his adorably slim body. His curious gaze met mine as he asked, "Who were you talking to?"

I closed the distance between us, pressing my lips to his and trailing kisses down his bare neck. "Oh, it was just Daniel," I lied smoothly, trying to maintain a calm facade. "Something came up at work and I have to go back for a bit. But don’t worry, I’ll be back soon."

My heart raced with guilt as I had to leave him behind for a while.

He grumbled as his arms crossed tightly around my neck in defiance. "But I don’t want you to go."

In response, I silenced him with a gentle bite on his nipple, feeling his body tense and his eyes flutter closed as a soft moan escaped his lips. My hands trailed down his sides, giving his round butt a hard squeeze. It felt amazing under my touch.

He shivered, his resistance melting away under my ministrations. "Just hurry back," he whispered, gripping my shoulders tightly.

"I wouldn’t leave if it wasn’t important," I murmured against his right nipple, my words muffled but sincere. I pulled him into a deep kiss, feeling the heat between us rising like a fire being stoked.

As I reluctantly pulled away, he looked up at me with those wide, trusting eyes. A trust I never meant to break ever again. "I mean it, Elijah. I need you here."

"I know, love" I said softly, planting one last kiss on his forehead before forcing myself to step away.

Unable to sit still any longer, I acted on impulse and headed straight to Samantha and her mother’s house. The gnawing worry for Ash pushed me forward, driving me towards the answers that might bring me peace and closure to the case.

Samantha opened the door with exaggerated sweetness, her smile plastered on like a facade. "Elijah, what brings you here?" she asked in a tone that dripped with false politeness.

"I need answers about something," I demanded, not wasting any time with pleasantries.

She exchanged a knowing look with her mother before leading me into the living room. My patience was already wearing thin as I sat down.

"I’m sure you both remember that Ash got into an accident," I began and they seemed to be off guard by my words. "I want to know what really happened that night," I stated firmly.

Samantha’s mother let out a heavy sigh, as if weary from dealing with this situation. "That boy," she began, shaking her head in disgust as if Ash wasn’t her own son. "Ash was home that night. He was drinking excessively and caused quite a mess. He always turns to alcohol when he’s upset. That’s just his way of coping. Sleeping around and whoring with different men and women. But why are you asking about all this?"

My fists clenched at my sides, feeling a surge of anger at her words. "I didn’t come here to know about useless stuff," I gritted out through my teeth. "Ash has never been with anyone else but me. I know those photos Samantha gave him were fake."

Samantha smirked smugly as if she wasn’t just caught, basking in the satisfaction of causing drama. "Believe what you want, Elijah," she said dismissively. "But Ash has always had a history of reckless behaviour. Even mom would try to intervene, but he never listened. My father spoiled him and he only saw mom and me as his enemies."

"He’s a liar and a lunatic" Samantha’s mother added disdainfully. "Always blaming others for his problems instead of taking responsibility. He’s been nothing but trouble since he was a child."

My anger flared even more at their biassed accusations against Ash. "Enough!" I snapped, standing up from my seat. "I won’t stand for these lies any longer. I won’t tolerate it."

Samantha looked taken aback by my outburst, but her mother remained unaffected. "Believe what you want, Elijah," she said coldly. "But Ash is a disaster waiting to happen and you’re too blinded by your feelings to see it."

"You don’t know him like I do," I retorted, my voice icy with determination. "And I won’t let you poison my mind against him again."

The anxiety that gnawed at my insides finally became unbearable.

She leaned in close to me, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You know you’re too good for someone like Ash, Elijah. He’s always been a mess- drinking, causing chaos at home. It’s not the first time he’s been reckless. You deserve better. Someone like me, who can truly appreciate you."

The words that spilled from her lips were like poison, sharp and deadly as they tried to twist my thoughts against Ash. Her mother, with a wicked smirk, joined in the attack. "Elijah, why stay with that lunatic when you could have someone like Samantha? She’s far superior to him in every way."

My rage threatened to consume me as I stepped away from Samantha, pushing her aside with force. Her eyes widened in shock at my sudden strength. "How dare you speak of Ash like that?" I snarled, my hands trembling with fury. "You know nothing about him. How much suffering he’s now because of me and you guys."

Her expression hardened into a cold mask. "Why defend him now? You used to hate him, but look at you now - so easily swayed by someone like him. What does that say about your character?"

Her words struck a nerve, but I refused to let her see how much they affected me. With a deep breath, I closed my eyes and focused on controlling my anger. "I’m warning you both," I growled, my voice low and dangerous. "Stop spreading lies about Ash. I won’t allow you to poison our lives with your malicious words."

Turning to leave, I heard Samantha’s voice call out behind me once more. And her next statement stopped me dead in my tracks. "Do you even know that Ash is a murderer?"

I slowly turned around, my eyes narrowing in suspicion. "What are you talking about?"

Both Samantha and her mother wore satisfied smirks that sent chills down my spine. Prodding further, Samantha stepped closer, her voice dripping with venomous malice. "Yes, it’s true.

"Ash killed two people in that accident all those years ago." My fists clenched at my sides as I struggled to maintain control. But I remained silent, giving her the opportunity to continue her cruel accusations without interruption.

Samantha’s smirk widened, revealing a glint of malice in her eyes. "Ash is dangerous, Elijah," she warned in a low voice. "He’s always been irresponsible." My heart raced as I tried to process her words. My body felt frozen, unable to move or speak. The weight of what she was saying was almost unbearable.

"That night, he was drunk and out of control," She continued, her voice dripping with contempt. "He ended up killing a couple in their early fifties." A wave of shock and horror washed over me as I struggled to comprehend her revelation. "My father managed to save him, but only by hiding him away in a hospital for two years where no one could reach him."

My mind reeled at the thought of if Ash was being capable of such a heinous act. "Ash was in a coma for two years," Samantha said with a sneer. "We were even warned to keep quiet, or there would be severe consequences."

Her words cut through me like a knife. But I refused to let Samantha see how much her words affected me. Instead, I mustered all the strength I had left and forced myself to speak.

"I don’t have an issue if you choose to accept him back," Samantha’s voice took on a more personal tone now, "but you should really think hard before committing to someone who’s capable of murder. It’s a risk you should seriously consider."

The room seemed to spin around me, but I forced myself to stay focused. Her words were meant to hurt, to drive a wedge between us. But I couldn’t let her poison my mind against Ash without finding out the truth for myself.

"Enough," I finally said, my voice tight with suppressed rage. "I’ll make my own decisions about Ash. You and your mother’s lies won’t change that." I locked eyes with Samantha, determination burning in my gaze. "But if you continue to spread such poisonous rumors, you’ll find yourself facing consequences of your own."

Without waiting for a response, I stormed out of the house, my thoughts a tumultuous storm as I tried to make sense of everything. The weight of Samantha’s words hung heavy on my shoulders, but I refused to let them break me. I needed to find the truth, no matter how horrific it was.
