Blood Nemesis-Chapter 104: Famous
Chapter 104: Famous
"Does it taste good?" The Thunder Emperor asked.
Oliver was gobbling down the dry biscuits without drinking a drop of water when he asked that.
"Yes, it does. But I prefer ice cream after a long battle."
"We can get you one if you want one. You deserve it after what you have done." Kumara added from the side.
The old stout man was wearing a sincere smile, gazing at Oliver, as he gobbled down the biscuits. Without wasting any time, he took out his phone and typed something, sending a message to someone.
"You will get the ice cream in a few seconds." He added.
Oliver didn’t know what to say. He paused in wonder realising that there are nice people in the higher ups of the Hero Union. In his past life, these guys had hunted him to the end of earth, trying to kill him with any means available. But in this life, they were buying him ice cream. He was amazed by how the situation had changed.
...And the reason for all the change was his actions until now.
After regression, the good he had done became the nexus point that sprouted a growing good relationship with the people around him. Finally, his actions were bearing fruit.
’Huh! I was kind of an ass in my previous life. So, I kinda deserved to be treated that way. After all, many good heroes died by my hand.’
Oliver remembered the collateral damage he caused. Among them were heroes who were just following orders.
*Sigh*
’But at that time, I didn’t really have a choice. Between do or die. Between your friend’s life and the life of your enemies, you have to make a choice. At that time, the choice was right. If the situation were to repeat, I would make the same choices again.’ Oliver thought.
Then he politely said, "Thank you, old man."
Kumara was indeed old and a man. But using them together in the situation was not that nice. Those who saw him noticed his impolite tone and languid appearance. He was leaning against the table, chewing on the biscuits, speaking with a lisp in a totally unserious way after all.
However, Kumara didn’t mind that. He had seen many younglings even more arrogant and uncouth than Oliver–the kind that rely on the power of family and friends to act high and mighty. Compared to them, Oliver looked a lot more sincere and approachable.
"Hmm...It’s the least I can do for an up-and-coming hotshot hero." He said.
"Hot shot? Hero? Me?" Oliver acted surprised.
In reality, he was not surprised at all. After all, they said they were watching his battle video before he came.
The ’acted surprised’ part was to hide his true feelings from appearing on his face. He wanted to hide the disgust and anger that could have appeared on his face. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
"Yes, we saw you wearing the golden armour, stomping on the rat-like mana beasts who were attacking the evacuees. You did good, kid."
The moment Kumara ended his sentence, a flurry of thoughts popped up in Oliver’s head. Initially, he believed they were talking about his battle near the crater. But he soon realised they were not.
’I thought there weren’t any drones in that area.’ Oliver thought hard.
He hadn’t seen any.
Well, when you think about it, he wasn’t really in a condition to observe the night skies during the battle.
’So, does that mean they saw me rampage like a mindless fool. Fuck! I wanted to build a cool, calm, collected image. I wanted to display my superiority over the mindless fools who call themselves heroes before finally tearing away their facades.’
’Fuck! Does this mean all my plans failed?’
Oliver was a little demoralised.
Even before he could start, his plan seemed to have gone down the drain. With how he fought, people might question whether he was sane. That was the unintended consequence of losing his mind for a few minutes.
’I will never be able to build an impeccable, unassailable image again.’
’This is depressing...’
’Anyway, maybe I will be able to salvage the situation in the future. Think long, Oliver. Think long.’ Oliver said to himself.
There was no point crying about spilled milk. Moving on was the best option. And luckily, he was professional at doing so. With a flexible mind and even more flexible body, he decided to change his plan to suit the evolving situation.
"Today, I wanted to invite you to appear before the public when I give the situation report. We were talking about that when you came." Kumara looked at the Thunder Emperor and said,
"Me?"
This time, Oliver was surprised. Hero Union regional head, giving a press briefing, was normal. But taking along Oliver, a random newly registered hero—what does he mean by that?
"Why?" He asked.
"It seems like everyone wants to know more about you. The social media is ablaze, trying to find more information on you. To prevent misinformation from spreading, it would be best if you could show your face. Besides that, your age and your ’work’ have become a hot topic. You have amassed a large fan following. You are famous now."
"I am?" Oliver was shocked.
He wanted to make a shocking debut as a hero. But even though he messed up in the middle, showing an embarrassing side of himself to the world, it still made waves through social media.
’Supposedly, I am famous. Supposedly, they like me. This world is fucked.’ Oliver muttered in his mind with an evil laugh.
Even though he thought that, he hid it perfectly from everyone. Either way, this was a pleasant surprise.
’Guess I was meant to be a hero.’
The irony.
For some reason, the world liked what he had done. Oliver couldn’t understand why, though. Still, he decided to make the best use of it.
"So, are you willing to participate in the press briefing?"
Kumara asked.
"What should I do?" Oliver inquired, turning his head towards Thunder Emperor and Achara.
They looked at each other for a second or two. Finally, the Thunder Emperor opened his mouth to speak.
"Do what you want. It is a good opportunity for a hero. Showing your face on TV before you even join the academy will help you. It would be easier to get you an admission, too."
Kumara nodded, hearing that.
"Then, let’s do it." Oliver smiled innocently and said.
The smile spread an unease into Achara’s heart, the only person who knew Oliver closely. For some reason she felt like something bad was about to happen.
