Blood Nemesis-Chapter 80: Consequence 3
Chapter 80: Consequence 3
"I need you to do something for me."
"Yes, boss." Stephen nowadays considers Oliver his boss.
The gang he was in was disbanded because of a lack of funding after Oliver pulled out M-fresh from the root. So, Stephen had nothing else to do.
"Bring your lackeys and post yourself in the location I sent. If you sense something dangerous, immediately call me. Can you do that?" Oliver asked while sending a message.
The message contained the location of Root’s family members.
"I can do that, boss. But what kind of danger?"
"The kind that makes you want to run away," Oliver spoke in a serious tone.
Stephen nervously laughed on the other end.
While the chances were low, Oliver liked to prepare for every situation.
Root and his family were well off, and the residential area they lived in was much closer to the city center.
If the demons are creating a gate, they would most likely do it near the city centre to maximise the damage.
So, there was a chance that Root and his family would be in the area of danger.
That was why Stephen was sent to monitor them.
As for his family, the military had already sent some people to monitor and guard his family because of the M-fresh incident. And his family was near the outer residential area, kilometres away from the city center, so the possibility of being in the way of danger was less. Thus, he was less concerned about them.
After giving guidance to Stephen, Oliver called Grizzly and passed on the info he had. Then he asked him to connect him with Elena, the flirtatious woman who hit on him.
Elena was connected to the group call a short while later.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Hello, Elena. Oliver is with us on the call. He needs your help with something." Grizzly said.
"Oh, is he willing to pay with his body?" Elena chuckled and asked.
"No, with crypto." Oliver was the one who answered.
"I prefer the body."
"Not gonna happen. Anyway, I am busy. Hear me out first and decide if you can do it." Oliver quickly changed the topic: "I want you to hack into the communication network and scan the logs for anomalies like cellular connection disruptions or high error rates." Oliver asked.
"Why?"
"Do I need to say that?"
"You don’t. But I perform better if I know what I am searching for."
Oliver paused for a second.
How should he explain the random gates? He pondered.
But there was no quick way to explain it, so he decided to go with a simple, direct answer.
"The military found out about the void stone smuggling operation of the demons. They are killing them off as we speak."
"What does it have to do with anything? Wait a minute, how do you know about military operations? Are you *Gulp* working for them?" Elena panicked.
"No," Oliver said firmly. "Anyway, they have yet to find the void stone. And I predict that the demons would open a gate with the void stones if they had no other option."
"Is that possible?"
"Yes, demons can do it."
"Gate terrorism!" Elena exclaimed. "So, you want me to monitor the communication systems so that you can find the location of the gate first, right?" She asked.
The opening of gates causes high-intensity mana and spatial disturbance that corrupts communication signals. It was the general way used to detect gates.
"Yes."
"But I thought other gates won’t open near a permanent gate."
"It wouldn’t occur naturally," Oliver added.
"Got it. I can do it."
Elena was a hacker specialised in doing similar work. It was not impossible for her, with her connection, to monitor communication signals.
In fact, she really didn’t even have to hack into the city network as Oliver thought. Just the devices she planted across the city would have been enough to serve the purpose.
"How much do you need?"
"I will do it for free if you allow me to sell the information you just gave me."
"I agree."
Like that, Oliver created one more safety net and waited for the vehicle sent by Achara to come and pick him up.
–
A few minutes later, a flying car with red and blue lights zoomed through the sky and stopped right next to Oliver.
The car was sleek and futuristic with doors that opened like wings.
The white exterior glowed as the doors opened to reveal Achara sitting inside.
Achara was driving the flying car, which was slightly larger than an SUV.
"Get in." She said,
Oliver promptly climbed in and wore the seat belt.
Flying cars were not allowed to fly inside the city. But in case of an emergency situation, SMB and military were allowed to use them.
The one that Achara was using was a military model.
The emergency lights flashing on the top and bottom sides of the car signaled that it was being used for an emergency situation.
"Where are we going?" Oliver asked once he sat comfortably.
Achara turned to look at him.
"If it’s really a distraction, what might they be planning with the rest of the void stone?" She curiously glanced at Oliver and asked.
"Something to do with gates, I presume," Oliver replied as the flying car lifted itself up into the air.
"Demons know more about mana and void stones than us. They might have separate uses for it that we don’t know." Oliver added.
Demons were prisoners trapped on the second earth. Whoever created the ancient ruins used them to trap them inside so that they couldn’t ruin the world.
However, now, no one knows anything about the creators of the ancient ruin or what happened to them.
"Do you know anything about that? Maybe some information that only military personnel are privy to." Oliver asked.
"No," Achara shook her head and pushed on a lever.
Immediately, the car flew straight up.
The flying car was powered by mana. It emitted no sound as it flew up into the air.
"But I have a feeling that something bad is about to happen," Achara said.
"Then, we should first go to the most populated area within the city." Oliver said.
"I was thinking the same. A team is already chasing some demons in that area. I didn’t take it seriously since they didn’t seem like they had void stones. But after our conversation, I think it was odd that some of them ran to the city center while the rest fled while openly carrying void stones." Like Oliver, Achara had also prepared while she came to pick him up.
"So, what is your reason for choosing the business district?" She asked, wanting Oliver’s reason.
"It’s easier for demons to hide there, and it is the best place to take hostages," Oliver said.
Achara was convinced and pressed another lever. The car zoomed to the city center.
It was daytime.
The high-rise building in the city center would be filled with working people during the day.
The best place for a terror attack was the hundreds of high-rise buildings in the business district. It was also surrounded by schools and residential zones, making it the area with the highest population density.
By going there, Oliver planned to sniff out demons. Achara wanted to do the same.
