Captive Mate BL-Chapter 443: + - +
Chapter 443: +Chapter 443+
The burly Alpha caught sight of them first, he walked over to nudge Davian. "Isn’t that your mate?"
Davian looked up, dropping the knife in his hands at the sight of Lake, he walked around the counter, heading to the door. "Were you looking for me?"
Lake could only nod, still not comprehending what was going on. He had expected chaos, and a lot of broken teeth, not his mate taking up a job at the restaurant they went to eat dinner at.
"I tried calling but you didn’t pick up," He scolded, "Where did you toss your phone?"
Davian reached into his pocket under the apron, wincing at the sight of the missed calls he had gotten.
"You said you were going to the bathroom," Lake kept going off, "But I went there and didn’t find you, I even called Doctor Perez..." He trailed off to glance at his phone, remembering that he had called the doctor.
Doctor Perez had hung up the moment he heard Davian’s voice, if the Alpha was there, it meant that Lake would be safe. He would find out what happened when he joined them at the beach house.
"It was loud in the kitchen so I didn’t hear my phone ring," Davian tried to explain, his voice quiet. "I wanted to learn to cook the spicy seafood platter you like so much."
Lake’s unease at being unable to find Davian melted away completely, he knew that Davian had a good reason for disappearing but it didn’t help his panic at being unable to find his mate.
He wanted to hug Davian to soothe his scolding from earlier but the Alpha’s messy apron dissuaded him, "You should have eaten first, your food has gone cold."
The server snapped out of the haze of longing she had fallen into, getting to observe such a loving couple from up close was enough to make anyone sigh with longing. "The kitchen will be happy to remake your order," She enthusiastically spoke up, leaving the kitchen to go retrieve the food forgotten on the table.
Davian expected Lake to scold him further about wasting food but his mate just held onto his arm and looked around him to survey the kitchen. "So where’s the food you cooked?" Lake asked instead, licking his lips.
"It’s almost ready," Davian said, his chest puffing out proudly. "It’s too steamy in the kitchen, why don’t you wait for me in the restaurant?"
Lake looked over his shoulder as Davian steered him out of the kitchen. "But I’ll be lonely all alone at the table, I don’t mind the steam." He tried to argue but he was already halfway down the hallway. Behind them, the kitchen staff poked their head out of the door to get one last look at the bickering couple.
"It’s hot enough," Davian insisted, not backing down. Other than wanting it to be a surprise, he hadn’t told Lake he wanted to get the recipe because he knew his mate would insist on tagging along.
Davian hadn’t been expecting the kitchen to be so accommodating that they would insist that he try the recipe right then under their watchful eyes. He did like to cook so he had easily been drawn in by the offer, not noticing the time go by.
"...It’s not healthy for the baby," He used the efficient ace up his sleeve, drawing out the chair for Lake to sit.
The table had already been cleared making Lake look on in dismay, he hadn’t been done eating yet, this was all Davian’s fault. He looked at his mate with a disappointed expression, "I wasn’t done eating and the food is all gone," He reported, forlorn.
Davian wisely kept his smile off his face, despite how adorable his mate looked complaining. "I’m making you a new platter," He soothed him, "And I’ll make more for you when we get back to the beach house."
Lake found it difficult to remain angry, his eyes sparkling. "I can eat another platter?" He asked carefully, not daring to hope.
It was a lot of food but Lake hadn’t eaten lunch and he had put his mate through undue stress so he deserved another platter. "Yes," Davian agreed, "Just sit tight, I’ll be right back."
Knowing where his mate was, coupled with the promise of more food that would be cooked by Davian made Lake smile, in a good mood. He sat on his chair, swinging his legs, patiently waiting for his new platter of food. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
His hands were itching to dig into more spicy seafood, his tongue missing the burn. The restaurant was practically empty save for a man sitting at a table at the far end, it was right next to the window, and he seemed to be people-watching more than eating.
Davian wasn’t gone for a few minutes before Lake caught sight of the nice Alpha that had helped him find Davian, so he rose to his feet and approached him.
"Thank you for earlier, I’ve found my mate," He said politely.
The Alpha looked around him skeptically, "And where is he?"
"He wanted to learn the recipe of the spicy seafood platter for me," Lake couldn’t help but gloat, his mate was the best.
The Alpha only grew concerned, "He what?" He focused on the pregnant Omega with a happy expression. "So he’s gone again?"
Lake nodded, "He told me to wait, that he’ll be out with a seafood platter for me."
The explanation only got more ridiculous as the pregnant Omega went on, the restaurant was mostly empty so he would probably be fine by himself. However, he would be waiting till the restaurant closed because the father of his child was a no-good sleazeball.
He didn’t want to get entangled with a naive Omega, especially not while on vacation but he felt like he had to do something. "Did you come to the island with him?" He asked, maybe if the Omega was independent, he would have less to worry about.
Lake frowned slightly, wondering what this had to do with anything, "Yes? Why wouldn’t I?"
At that point, Davian showed up still wearing his apron with a steaming tray of food, his gray eyes narrowing at the sight of another Alpha speaking to his mate. The restaurant was almost empty so he hadn’t thought to worry about that, which was clearly a bad move.
He strode forward, putting himself between them, a wave of steam filling the air. "Can I help you?"
The good Samaritan Alpha had to lean back to look the Alpha that had walked up in the face, and what do you know? He was holding a tray of spicy seafood that he looked to have made himself, what were the odds?
The pregnant Omega stepped around the dangerous Alpha, excitedly holding onto his arm. "Is it ready? Can I eat now?"
The dangerous Alpha’s expression softened, and he lifted the tray higher like he expected his pregnant mate to dip his hand into the steaming tray. "It’s too hot, wait for it to cool."
The Alpha wisely backed away, "Your mate was just searching for you earlier, so he wanted to let me know he found you." He explained hastily, hot-footing it out of the restaurant with a story to tell his friend.
Davian and Lake barely heard his words, the tray of food taking up all of their attention.
Davian placed the tray on the table and pulled out a chair for Lake to sit on again. Now he took off the stained apron, he needed to return it to the kitchen but he was wary of letting Lake out of his sight again.
The nice server showed up then with a platter for Davian as well as napkins, gloves, and drinks to accompany the food. She took the apron from him with a smile and bid them to enjoy their meal before going to join the crowd of kitchen staff peeking around to see Lake’s reaction to the platter made for him.
The pregnant Omega was impatient, he had already worn gloves, a napkin over his legs. "Are you sure it’s not cool enough yet?"
Davian’s tray wasn’t straight from the fire like Lake’s so the Alpha was already eating. "If you blow on it, it will be," He finally gave in, Lake was already so impatient and so was he, he wanted to know what his mate thought of the food he made.
Lake beamed, reaching into the platter without hesitation. He dutifully blew on it, pale pink lips puckering, his dark brown hair was pinned out of his face but damp tendrils stuck to the sides of his flushed face.
The light going off in Lake’s eyes made Davian relax minutely, the Omega waved the crab leg he was eating, trying to speak despite having a full mouth.
"It’s awesome! Can we eat this every day?"
Davian grimaced, starting to see for the first time the disadvantages of learning the recipe, because he couldn’t say no to his mate.
In the hallway leading to the backrooms, the kitchen staff cheered quietly although it wasn’t the restaurant’s food that was being praised.
