Chapter 455: +Chapter 455+

Caspian couldn’t stall for any more time but he didnt even want to, he was satisfied. Just as he made a move to get off Asher, a gunshot rang out.

Caspian tightened his hold on his mate, more startled than frightened. "What was tha-" that?

The rest of his words were cut off by the sounds of sporadic shooting, close enough to be anxiety inducing.

Asher narrowed hazel-gold eyes at the door, looking unsurprised by the deafening bullets going off, he sounded like he expected it even.

"I’m calling Jael," His mate said decisively, making no move to give an explanation.

Right then, Caspian was completely on board with that. Asher might be the type to have a good time while in the middle of a shootout but he had been spoiled silly by his husband, he just wanted to go back home were it was quiet and his ears weren’t ringing.

Asher dialed up his second in command, his expression dark as Caspian clung to him tightly.

"Boss?" Jael’s surprised voice came through the phone.

"Need you for something important. Caspian is with me at the club, he’s in heat and there’s a shooting."

Jael hung up immediately, there was no doubt that the Beta was already on his way.

Caspian momentarily forgot about the shooting in the background, a look of disapproval on his face. "I’m not in heat."

Asher gave into the urge to kiss his mate then, he took his time, robbing Caspian of breath. "I’m not taking any chances."

Caspian didn’t have the energy to argue, laying his head against Asher’s shoulder. He felt lightheaded and for the first time could smell the change in his scent that Asher had noticed as soon as he showed up.

Jael had been pleasantly surprised by Asher’s call, he had just settled into watching the movie currently playing, preparing to spend the rest of his day like this.

He figured that if his Mafia King had to call after sending him off for a month, it had to be something very important, but that didn’t even begin to cover it

It was only the second day, how the fuck did so much go wrong already?

He was already out the door after processing Asher’s words, bumping into Rosie who to looked to be about to come see him.

"Need something?" He had to stop to ask, he was assigned to help her out after all.

Rosie had a sheepish expression, "Need some company?"

Jael did a double take and then thought about it deeply. If Caspian was in heat, Rosie would be very helpful.

"Yeah," He said shortly, grabbing her wrist and pulling her down the hallway.

Rosie somehow managed to keep up in heels, disbelief written on her face. "What the fuck? What the fuck are you doing?"

Jael already yanked her into the elevator. "I’ll explain on the way." He muttered, patting his shoulders and realizing he left his holsters behind. "You don’t happen to have a gun on you, do you?"

Rosie shot him a look and held out her arms. "Does it look like I can fit a gun in this?"

Jael gave her a once over, her neatly-pressed dress shirt was molded to her body, her skirt was even tighter, barely skimming past her thighs, and beyond that was long legs encased in black fishnets and matching heels.

He kept a poker face, he should have a spare in the car, or he would just show up unarmed and hope for the best. "Sorry," He cleared his throat, not sure if asking for a gun randomly was seen as rude in a company environment.

"Because I can," She said grimly, reaching into her unbuttoned dress shirt to pull a bejeweled gun out of her bra.

The elevator opened at that point, and just like the people in the foyer, Jael was beyond stunned. He took the still warm gun that was handed to him, speechless.

"The safety is still on," Rosie reminded him as she sauntered off the elevator. "Be careful with it, Lake gifted me that."

Jael snapped out of his shock and hotfooted it after Rosie, no wonder Davian and Lake could leave her in charge, the secretary was rather capable.

After pealing out of the parking lot, he could finally explain what was actually going on. Well, that was putting it lightly because Jael actually had no fucking clue what was going on.

"My boss called, he needed me to do something important."

"What’s so important that you would need a gun?" Rosie had to ask, in unfamiliar territory.

"Most of what I do requires a gun." Jael said calmly, driving fast enough to have Rosie holding onto her seat.

Rosie thought about the holsters that seemed attached to Jael and nodded— that did make a lot of sense.

"A shooting broke out at the club," He went on, the car swerving as he took a sharp turn, running a red light.

Rosie was starting to adjust to the dangerous ride she was on, glancing over at Jael’s focused face. Despite what he was doing and what he was about to head over to meet, the Beta was completely calm like this was his usual schedule.

"Is that a common occurrence?"

Jael shrugged, "Sometimes, guns aren’t banned from the clubs."

Rosie somewhat expected that answer, "Then why did Asher need your help?" She had to ask, she had met Mafia King Asher a few times and he didn’t seem like he needed any help to stop a shooting.

"Because Caspian is also at the club," Jael got to the bad news, "And he’s in heat."

Rosie whipped around in horror, "He’s what? Fucking step on the gas, oh my God. Do you have another gun in here?" She asked seriously.

Caspian was a sweetheart, she couldn’t imagine him being in such a dangerous situation while being so vulnerable.

Jael didn’t need to be told twice, "I’ll give you your gun when we get to the club, just get Caspian safely to the car and I’ll handle the rest."

Rosie nodded tautly, she had been ready to spend her day munching on snacks and watching a movie with Jael but this was a different change of pace.

If she wasn’t so worried about Caspian, she might even say she was having fun. There was nothing like running several red lights and going way over the speed limit to start a morning.
