Chapter 485: +Chapter 485+

Angelo woke up to find himself in his room. His last memory before sleeping was while they were in the car so it was easy to deduce that Nikolai had been the one to bring him up.

He shot upright, his face burning, the Mafia King didn’t have to go through all that trouble, Angelo could make his way up to the penthouse just fine by himself.

Angelo didn’t want to face Nikolai just yet, and that was based on his assumptions that the Mafia King was in the penthouse. He might have made excuses for them to return early because he noticed him dozing off.

Angelo got off the bed, in a huff. He had slept off on his first day on the job and had to be carried back to his room, his ego had really taken a big hit from that. Never mind how quickly he seemed to fall asleep these days, was it still a leftover side effect from his heat?

He decided to busy himself with putting his room in order, catching sight of the pile of knives on the dresser beside the bed. His dissatisfaction dissipated at the sight of it.

He was an assassin but he was also an Omega, and that came with some disadvantages.

In Silvia’s office, she was staring at the Mafia King seated across from her with new eyes, grudging approval in her black stare.

"I heard you’re searching for Luis Caddel," She went straight to the point like she always did, not mincing her words.

Nikolai wasn’t surprised that she had found out, Frequency was the go-to for information for a reason. He waited for her to get out with what she had to say, half-distracted by what to have for dinner with Angelo.

When Silvia didn’t say anything more and instead kept staring at him pointedly waiting for an acknowledgment from him, Nikolai was forced to respond.

"And if I am?" He drawled.

"Why are you searching for him?" Silvia insisted, her tone grave.

Nikolai appraised her, "To kill him." He answered flatly, not bothering to sugarcoat his intent.

Silvia seemed satisfied by this answer, nodding in approval. "Then I’ll tell you where he is." She divulged after ascertaining that she could trust him with the information.

Nikolai’s interest was piqued, he had just began the search for the shitbag in question but he had yet to make any headway. "Does Angelo know you do?"

Silvia bristled, "That has nothing to do with anything. I want you to keep the bastard far away from Angelo, kill him as soon as you can."

Nikolai leaned back in his seat, lifting a brow. "Why didn’t you have him killed yourself if you knew where he was this entire time?"

"Because he’s the High Council’s attack dog." Silvia countered calmly. "He’s been out of Haines for years now but I can’t do anything to him for that very reason."

Silvia might be influential in Haines but she had nothing on the High Council, if she tried to go against them, she would be obliterated along with everything she cared for.

But Mafia King Nikolai was a rogue bullet, if anyone could pull it off, it would be him.

Nikolai’s expression shuttered, his thoughts impossible to decipher. "Send me the details of his movements." He said shortly rising to his feet, well aware that despite Silvia declaring defeat, she would still be keeping tabs on Luis.

Silvia agreed easily, a twinge of hope in her eyes. She would be able to sleep better at night if Luis Caddel was wiped off the surface of the earth, preferably in a very cruel way.

She didn’t stop Nikolai when the Mafia King rose to his feet and started for the door, a cloud of cigar smoke left in his wake. If anyone could give Luis his due, it would be Nikolai.

Angelo wasn’t great at arranging his new clothes. As someone used to constantly being on the move, he never had to take the time to fold his clothes in the closet or find the perfect place to store his weapons.

But he would be in Mafia King Nikolai’s penthouse for a while so it had suddenly become a necessity to do all those things.

By the time he was done it was already sun down, curiosity taking him out of the room as he instinctively searched for Nikolai.

It was a surprise to find the Mafia King seated in the living room, the telltale scent of cigar smoke lingering on him although there wasn’t a trace of cigar ash in sight.

Nikolai seated so comfortably in the living room reminded him of the first time they properly met, with Angelo slashing at the Mafia King’s neck with a knife.

"I’ve ordered dinner," Nikolai said calmly at his appearance, looking like he had been expecting him to show up.

Angelo nodded and joined the Mafia King on the couch he was on, settling down at the far end. "Have you been here all this time?" He gave into his curiosity and asked.

"No," Nikolai replied, finding it easy to be honest.

Angelo didn’t push any further, his situation with the Mafia King was really odd, and wasn’t something that could be casually explained to anyone. But he was content with their strange dynamic and for someone like him, that was more than he could ever hope for.

The large screen TV coming on pulled Angelo out of his thoughts, an expression of surprise on his face. He didn’t think that Nikolai deigned to do something like watch some television.

He focused on the screen as Nikolai scrolled through stations, curious despite himself what the Mafia King would choose.

Nikolai didn’t seem to have any intention to choose, endlessly scrolling through channels like he had just been looking for a reason to keep his hands occupied. It made Angelo press his lips together, irked.

"Pick a channel," He complained without really meaning to say a word, his voice quiet.

Nikolai glanced over at him to find him focused on the screen, amusement on his face. He stopped changing the channels then, and it stopped on a channel for kids.

A colorful cartoon with soothing music was on, the art style made the characters look like they were in a painting, their voices sonorous.
