Chapter 522: +Chapter 522+

They did end up going to bed, and much to Lake’s disappointment, all they did was clean up and take a nap, too tired to be down for long, falling fast asleep in his mate’s arms.

Dinner was quiet and if Lake noticed that Davian was keeping his distance, he said nothing about it.

"Let’s go on a walk down the beach," Davian suggested as he cleaned up, they had eaten a bit late that night, a walk would do great for digestion.

Lake put on proper clothes, it seemed like he hadn’t worn much of the clothes he packed for the trip. They only occasionally went down to the village, and mostly they stayed in the villa.

If there wasn’t the added bonus of the beach being in their backyard, they could have just done this at home. Lake found that he didn’t quite mind that, as long as Davian was with him.

He glanced up at his mate who was staring into the distance as they slowly walked down the beach. "What are you thinking about?"

"You can’t go on park rides," Davian said with a frown.

Lake’s lips tilted upwards, "I know that. I just thought it would be a nice change of scenery."

They had been planning for the visit to the park for the past couple days, and he could see that the thought never occurred to Davian.

"You can go on the rides if you like," Lake rested his head against Davian’s shoulder. There were a few rides he could probably go on, but he would be content with walking around and people-watching.

"I’ll pass," Davian’s low voice was gentle like the calm waves.

"We could bring our baby when they’re a little older. They’ll enjoy the park better than either of us."

Davian leaned down to press a kiss to his hair, it went without saying that whatever Lake wanted was what he would do.

"Do you really want to wait till the baby is born to find out?" Davian broke the serene silence as they made their way back to the villa.

It was a crescent moon but there was generous lighting all around, dispelling the darkness.

Lake’s smile glowed in the gentle lighting. They had spoken about finding out the gender of their baby before and he had passed up on it.

"It doesn’t change anything. Besides, between you and Caspian, the entire house will probably be filled with baby things..."

Davian didn’t strongly feel about either option, perfectly fine with doing whatever Lake wanted. He didn’t correct Lake about the fact that he wouldn’t be a part of the culprits buying things for the baby, Rosie was frankly more of a danger than he was.

"I’m going to take a shower," Lake announced when they got back to their bedroom.

It wasn’t so late but it didn’t matter to Lake. He would take every chance he got to sleep so he would be in top shape when he got back to Haines.

He had a slight waddle to his steps, taking off his clothes as he headed for the bathroom. Inviting Davian along was the default but this time he didn’t, a sly smile on his face as he felt his mate’s dark gaze on his back.

After finishing up in the bathroom, Lake wore his usual outfit of Davian’s shirt and cozy pajama bottoms, sitting propped up on the bed with his phone.

Davian cleaned up after he did, his short wet hair standing up in spikes after he stepped out in loose sweatpants, a towel in hand. He dried his hair at the dresser, sculpted muscles rippling.

Lake peered over his phone at his mate, he could still feel the imprint from when he slept with Davian inside him, he was in a very good mood, he could even go to bed just like this.

Davian got on the bed after drying himself completely, he threw on an unbelted night robe because he always advocated for Lake to cover up, he had to join in and do the same.

He curled up against the Omega who was focused on his phone. He knew that Lake hadn’t done anything work related while they were on vacation but he was still a little worried that he would find his mate going through emails or reports.

So he shamelessly stuck his head into Lake’s phone to figure out what he was doing only to have a kitten meow right in his face.

Lake pressed soft lips against his forehead, the screen of his phone going dark. "Are you going to sleep?"

Davian wasn’t sleepy but at a single whiff of Lake’s mellow scent, his mouth started watering. He swallowed slowly, putting some distance between them.

"Yeah," He replied thickly, "I should, we’ve got a busy day tomorrow."

"Oh, you’re right." Lake agreed, placing his phone on the bedside table. He inched right after his fleeing Alpha, he couldn’t sleep until he was practically wrapped around the other.

Davian had panic swimming in his black eyes as he physically fought the urge to back up a bit more. He would hate himself if he made Lake think that he was avoiding his touch.

Lake’s warm hands slipped inside his robe, pressing against the cool skin of his chest. "Are you going to keep holding back until we grow old?"

It was a lightly phrased question with a hint of teasing but there was a crack in Lake’s voice that belied how strongly he felt about it. He liked the harmless cat and mouse chase they had in their sex life but sometimes it was tiring.

Sometimes, it felt like he had to constantly reassure and convince his mate just for a little bit of intimacy.

"I’m fine, the baby is fine. I love you."

Davian was wide-eyed as he stared down at the honey pools that held his whole world. He pulled Lake into his arms, his voice rough as he spoke. "I love you too."

Lake leaned back, feeling like he had drunk a jug of sweetened chocolate. He was more worried about his mate, penetrative sex aside, his mate was very attentive, but constantly holding back couldn’t be good for him.

He placed a hand on Davian’s face, his eyes so so gentle. Regardless of what he wanted, he wouldn’t push his mate, "Let’s go to sle..." sleep.

The rest of his words were kissed out of his mouth, Davian pinning him back to the bed.

His mate’s hands reaching under his shirt to caress his chest made his eyes grow wide, his surprise dissolving into a sensual smile.
