Chapter 83: Chapter 78 Restraint (three more for subscription and monthly votes)_1

Lu Yue had never imagined that Feng Yi’s sense of smell could be so disturbingly acute.

He continued his performance in front of Feng Yi.

Feng Yi played along, pretending to be oblivious to his thoughts.

His gaze returned to the clothes in the room.

The ambition of Qianli Group was evident in these new products; it was no wonder they were taken so seriously.

Glancing at the time, Lu Yue said to Feng Yi, "Shall we start now?"

"Yeah."

"Although the new products have been tested after production to prevent any mishaps, have another look."

These garments and accessories, destined for the runway, were displayed on specific racks, ready to dazzle on models at the evening’s celebration and be admired by many.

Feng Yi walked slowly through the rows of merchandise.

Although he had already deduced the situation from the doorway, the old saying held true—in front of businessmen like Lu Yue, it was best to keep a few tricks up one’s sleeve and not let them know that the inspection hardly took a few minutes.

"The leather materials are a bit complicated, not just synthetic snakeskin but several other types of synthetic leathers as well," Feng Yi remarked.

Lu Yue nodded, "Right, different series use different eco-friendly leathers."

Feng Yi made a show of inspecting the collection, took a while looking around, even put on gloves to touch a few types of the new eco-friendly materials he hadn’t encountered before, memorizing their scent profiles.

It was a good opportunity to update his mental database, so he’d recognize these materials instantly next time.

After completing a round, Feng Yi removed his gloves and reported to Lu Yue, "There’s no genuine leather."

Lu Yue breathed a sigh of relief, "That’s good to hear."

The guard monitoring the room eyed Feng Yi with a strange look. He didn’t understand Feng Yi’s method of assessment.

Was this the way the highly-paid expert, hired for an additional evaluation, operated?

Just walk around and that’s it?

Such easy money!

Is he scamming us?

As the guard scrutinized Feng Yi, taking him for a fraudster, he noticed Feng Yi’s eyes on him, their gazes meeting.

He unconsciously averted his eyes from Feng Yi’s.

He found Feng Yi’s eyes to be a bit cold and somewhat piercing; making eye contact always sent a shiver down his spine.

The assessment here was over, and Lu Yue began to lead Feng Yi out.

Suddenly, Feng Yi asked, "Before being showcased, these clothes in the room were only seen by a select few internally?"

"That’s correct. But now you’re also one of the few," replied Lu Yue.

Feng Yi further inquired, "Since these clothes were brought here, how many people have been in this room?"

Lu Yue didn’t understand why Feng Yi would ask this, but from their many interactions, he knew Feng Yi must have a reason.

After pondering for a moment, Lu Yue answered, "Apart from my father and me, and the person guarding here, no one else has been in."

"Is that so?"

Feng Yi glanced at the guard.

The guard following them felt sweat break out on his forehead. Head bowed, his expression was tense.

Lu Yue, having always been concerned about this matter, was watching Feng Yi’s expressions closely and turned sharply, his keen gaze stabbing at the guard.

The guard’s expression stiffened for a moment.

Lu Yue’s eyelid twitched, but he didn’t say anything. Instead, he gestured to an assistant to cordon off the area around the new product room and block the emergency exits leading to it.

He then continued to escort Feng Yi outside.

Most of those guarding the passageway were loyalists of Lu Yue and his father.

Once they were a little distance away from the new product room,

"What did you find? Just tell me," Lu Yue said.

"There’s nothing wrong with the clothes. There’s someone in the second to last changing room."

Lu Yue was shocked, "Aren’t the curtains drawn aside?"

He had glanced at the changing rooms earlier and noticed nothing out of the ordinary.

However, the drawn curtains were gathered to one side, not tied up, and being floor-length, there was certainly enough room to hide a person!

And thinking back, he realized that Feng Yi had indeed lingered a bit longer in that area. Could it be that he had detected something amiss then?

No wonder!

Feng Yi continued, "Behind the curtain, there should be two people. The rest is up to you to investigate."

After his examination period, Feng Yi’s sense of smell had become even more sensitive, his judgments more precise, so anyone hiding there couldn’t deceive him. He could even distinguish, based on scent molecules, that the two hiding behind the curtain were a young man and woman—details he saw no need to disclose. Some things are best kept secret.

He wouldn’t tell Lu Yue that he had detected this information upon entering the door. His pause by the display rack was merely a pretense.

Lu Yue, unaware of how much Feng Yi guarded against him, was now fully preoccupied with the people in the new product room.

"Alright, I got it. Thanks for this! And don’t mention this matter to anyone else."

"Understood."

Feng Yi had no desire to delve into these matters; his job was merely to assess the materials. But seeing that Lu Yue had been so lucrative for him, he threw in a piece of information for good measure—to prevent them from missing something crucial.

Lu Yue had his assistant escort Feng Yi out and arranged a rest room for him at the venue. He remembered that Feng Yi usually felt tired after his assessments. Although there weren’t many items to evaluate this time and Feng Yi hadn’t shown any signs of fatigue, Lu Yue needed to maintain his stance, to show Feng Yi that he, Lu Yue, was a dependable and well-intentioned business partner.

After Feng Yi left, Lu Yue called for backup and moved towards the new product room.

New product showroom.

After Lu Yue and Feng Yi left, it wasn’t long before the person in charge of guarding was called out, and then the room quieted down.

Time passed.

From behind the curtain of the second-to-last changing room, two long breaths were heard.

Then came a suppressed voice.

"Have they gone?"

"They should all be gone; I haven’t heard any noise."

"Damn it! Wasn’t Lu Yue supposed to be greeting the guests? Why did he suddenly come over here!"

The man speaking was clearly annoyed, "Look at these quickly; you can’t take photos! I’m giving you one more minute, then we need to hurry and leave through the emergency exit!"

"Eh? One minute is too short, I can’t get a good look, that dress just now was so beautiful I want to take another look, and the bag next to it..."

The curtain lifted, and the two people came out reluctantly, then, as if spellbound, froze in place.

Lu Yue stood at the showroom entrance, his face grim as if a storm was about to erupt.

Despite his usual affable demeanor towards others, laughing and joking, those who knew Lu Yue were aware that being someone in charge at Qianli Group was no easy feat, as he could be ruthless even to his own family when necessitated.

"...Brother? You... you are... here?"

The young man who came out from behind the changing room curtain was pale as death, stuttering and attempting to say something else. But upon meeting Lu Yue’s blade-sharp gaze, he cowered back.

He knew his cousin’s character all too well. Being caught in the act of wrongdoing, the best thing to do was admit fault. Considering they were cousins, Lu Yue might go easier on him.

The young woman by his side was at a loss for what to do, not really knowing Lu Yue, but feeling the awkwardness of being caught without the same sense of dread.

She tugged at her boyfriend, trying to get him to say more, to come up with an excuse or plead for forgiveness before leaving.

However, this usually assertive boyfriend was now silent, hanging his head quietly as if awaiting judgment.

She finally realized something was amiss.

Lu Yue waited for a while, but when no voice came forth, he lost interest.

He just wanted to see what the kid could say, but it turned out he was feeble.

With many things on today’s agenda and already delayed here, he had no time to entertain a fool who grew in height but not in brains, a twenty-something who still hadn’t mentally matured.

"Today is the anniversary celebration; behave yourself. I’ll deal with you after the festivities!"

As he spoke, Lu Yue’s gaze swept to the cousin’s side, "And this one, you like it so much, huh? Well, then you can be locked up together!"

Lu Yue signaled his subordinates.

"Check their phones for any leaks."

Outside the showroom, the guard responsible for monitoring hung his head in a gloomy resignation, shrinking in place.

Lu Yue hardly gave him another glance.

As he came out, Lu Yue had already adjusted his expression. Many people were watching him at today’s event, and he couldn’t let them know that there had been a minor issue backstage, especially not one caused by his own family.

Family issues would definitely be dealt with after the celebration, no need to be the laughingstock of others.

But Feng Yi, that guy, was really something; not only good at assessing leather materials but also able to detect if there were other people in the room!

Feng Yi’s personal business value had once again increased in Lu Yue’s estimation.

After informing his father about the incident in the new product showroom, Lu Yue continued with other matters, no time to think about how to coax Feng Yi into doing more for him.

On the other side, after Feng Yi had completed his appraisal tasks for the day, he was basically free to do as he pleased.

Lu Yue had arranged a lounge for him, which he quite appreciated. Lounge spaces at the venue were limited, so it was quite a feat to designate one specifically for him. Such treatment was usually reserved for big stars and bosses.

Feng Yi went to the dining area and ate another two rounds before heading to the lounge to sleep.

In the midst of evolution, prone to gluttony and somnolence.

When he woke up again, it was already past 5 p.m.

Feng Yi planned to go to the hotel to change into formal attire and then attend the evening’s indoor celebration event.

The inner field was only accessible to those with an invitation, and he had heard that the buffet area inside was even more upscale.

Since he was here, it would be a waste not to enjoy a round of dining.

The soundproofing of the lounge was excellent; once outside, Feng Yi could hear the songs from the outdoor venue.

The atmosphere at the outdoor venue was lively; a performance was going on at the central stage, and the place was packed with people, the powerful rhythm electrifying the crowd.

Feng Yi hurried past the side of the venue.

The vibrations were too strong, bothering his feet.

Although he could now regulate the degree to which he felt the ground’s vibrations through the soles of his feet, it wasn’t possible to block it out entirely, so intense vibrations were still perceivable.

Therefore, after changing into his formal attire at the hotel, Feng Yi added another layer of shock-absorbing padding to the soles of his shoes.

Suitably attired and with his invitation in hand, he returned to the venue and entered the inner field with his invite.

Too many scents filled the indoor field, some pungent, but Feng Yi’s attention was quickly drawn to the food in the dining area. With such offerings, he could tolerate any number of overbearing odors!

Just switch off part of his olfactory system’s functionality.

In the inner field’s dining area, the food on the tables was even more exquisite.

But those who entered the inner field were mostly reserved and restrained, so as not to tarnish their image.

And Feng Yi...

Restraint was out of the question.

He didn’t come here to be restrained!
