Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 184
Chapter 184: Chapter 184
Fort Last Bastion...
The Colonel immediately took out his binoculars from his table and went to the window where he used those binoculars to see what was happening.
He could still see some traces of the flares that were offset recently, "Damn it", he muttered.
Though the soldier might have confirmed the incident, as the head of the fort, he has to verify it before passing the intelligence to his supervisors, who don’t stay here.
Once the intelligence has passed, and if the information was found to be false, it wouldn’t be the soldier’s fate that would be in trouble, no, it would be his fate. The soldier would get punished for a false report, but as the head of the fort, the Colonel has to verify things before reporting.
So, he had to make sure that there were red flares before making his report and from what he saw, there were definitely red flares. Though he didn’t see them properly, he could still see the residue left behind when those flares were launched.
If he were not immersed in meditation, he might have seen the red flares himself, but meditation requires total silence. So, he blocked the room from receiving any outside disturbances, except for the front door.
He is on duty after all. Even if he was sleeping, there needs to be a way to wake him up from sleep if the situation demands it.
Seeing the residue of the red flares, the colonel sighed, "It has been over a century since that signal was used. Once again, the world would be in chaos".
He shook his head as he could do nothing much about what was about to happen later. He could only report the matter to his supervisors, who would do all the thinking and make a plan for what was coming. freewēbnoveℓ.com
For now, though, it was another matter.
He walked to the Big Red Button, which was placed on the wall, and pushed it.
Sirens blared everywhere.
The colonel spoke into the mic next to it, "Soldiers, we are under imminent attack. Triple Red Flares were seen in the sky, and you all know what that means. Get ready for battle and survive until the reinforcements arrive".
He then took a communicator and sent a message to the alliance.
He has done what he could. Whether the men stationed here would have a future or not depends on the attacking force and how long the alliance takes to send reinforcements.
He prayed internally that the response would be faster. Only then could his men survive this attack. Though he was sure that not all would survive this disaster, he hoped that many would.
After stationing here for almost a decade, he has become familiar with everyone here, and not just soldiers, but cooks, healers, even mortals who worked here as servants and did things like cleaning.
There is a difference when someone whom one doesn’t know dies, compared to when someone they knew dies, and the Colonel knew everyone that is in the fort.
Even if he survives, the guilt he would carry would be too much if the survival rate of the people here is very low. So, he prayed for the alliance reinforcements to come here as quickly as possible without facing any delays.
As a colonel, he has an idea of what was happening in the alliance. Though most of his soldiers or the mortals that are working here have no idea about what was happening, he, as a colonel and overseer of the fort, knows about this fact.
The alliance is under active attack from the cults. Many outposts were attacked and even two were completely destroyed but those were too far away from any human settlements, and the news about those were kept a secret.
Even the attacks were kept secret, but the alliance knew that many should have already seen the attacks, and the news should have spread substantially, and soon everyone would know about those.
This would cause panic among the masses, which is not a good thing. So, they already dispatched soldiers to patrol cities and towns. The security increased around almost every settlement, not just to make the people feel safe, but because the alliance knew what was brewing and the security was needed.
With scattered troops, it might take a while to respond. Also, there is a chance the cults could stall them if they find anything suspicious about the alliance movements.
Shaking his head about his bad luck, the Colonel put on his armour and took out his weapon before leaving his room.
If the enemy is coming to his home, then he would be the first to receive them, along with his soldiers.

Alliance HQ...City of Valora(Capital City)
The communication hub is buzzing with messages received from every corner of the alliance, even from lands that are not in alliance control.
This is normal.
This communication hub is where anyone working for the alliance would send their messages to. The messengers that work in the hub would check to whom the message was intended and the severity of the message.
The highest priority messages were immediately sent, even if they were clogged with too many messages. This was because some messages are time-sensitive, and delaying them would be equivalent to not relaying the message at all.
"Sir, an emergency message, from Last Bastion", one of the messengers who received the message relayed to his supervisor.
The supervisor knows every important location and the Last Bastion, though not active for some time, knew what an emergency message from there could mean.
"Transfer that message to the intended ones. You can fill in the details of the transfer once that is done", the supervisor spoke.
The messenger nodded and did what his supervisor told him.
He was someone who had been working here for five years and knew that when an emergency message was received, any delay caused by them would lead to punishment.
Emergencies are time-sensitive messages, and there is a high chance that lives are at stake. Every second wasted might result in the death of a soldier or soldiers, and the reason why the supervisor said to fill in the details after sending the message to the recipients.
