Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 114: Odd Comfort Holding Hands Under The Table
Chapter 114: Odd Comfort Holding Hands Under The Table
Brooke stole glances at Thane, who sat in the middle of what seemed to be a drinking competition between Danny and Lance. She frowned, when she checked the time, and realized it had been a whole half hour since they arrived at the bar.
"You really want to be with him that badly?" Jessica asked, pouring herself another shot.
Brooke mindlessly replied, "Yes."
Jessica’s countenance fell, she felt guilty for keeping them apart, but just like the others she feared that Brooke was not a good influence on Thane.
Or rather, she made him throw away his cautious side.
And more than that, Jessica wanted some alone time to discuss something with Brooke, without her scary husband hovering around.
"Um, Brooke, there’s been something I’ve been meaning to discuss with you. And while I know this isn’t the ideal place, I feel it’s the only chance we’ll get. You know, with your filming starting in a month." Jessica noted, starting the conversation off strong.
Brooke straightened her back, and took a good look at Jessica, making sure she wasn’t drunk from the empty shot glasses in front of her. Compared to Brooke, who had only taken a glass, Jessica looked far better. freeweɓnovel.cøm
"What is it?"
"It’s about your husband."
Brooke tensed up. "Is everything okay?" The way these conversations went, Jessica would definitely reveal some unworldly secret about him, or claim that he’s been cheating on her.
But, in Thane’s case, she heavily doubted that was what would happen.
Jessica replied, "I know this isn’t my place to say anything, but as his wife, I thought you of all people should be the first to know about his health-"
Brooke cut her off. "I’m sorry, but no."
"What?" Jessica blinked twice, "I don’t understand, don’t you want to know?"
Brooke reached for her phone on the table and showed Jessica the pictures she took of Thane’s medicine.
"Wait, you already know?" Jessica asked.
"I know you guys were also taking tests for Mr Grayson, I noticed extra test samples that wasn’t there when I arrived." Brooke informed her.
Jessica’s eyes went round, she had been with Brooke the whole day and did not for a moment suspect that she was in the know.
Just how good at acting must the woman have been not to arouse anyone’s suspicions?
"I don’t fully know what’s going on with him, but I plan to find out tonight. That’s why I wanted to come to the bar with everyone, so I can get him off his guard enough to tell me." Brooke told her.
Also, Brooke wanted to get drunk, at least just a bit so she could draw out courage from being intoxicated.
"I will say I’m impressed, but I want to give you a little heads up, it isn’t pretty." She said, placing no filter on her words.
Brooke stole another glance at him, and caught him staring back at her. She looked away, picked up a shot glass, and poured herself another drink.
Already dreading the talk they would have to have.
Once Cressida was handled, Zachiel turned to Malcolm’s direction. "Where is my grandson?" He asked.
"Father, Thane isn’t here yet, I heard he went to his company, so he must still be working." Malcom hastily replied.
"It’s good to see that at least one of you has some sense of focus. That boy reminds me of myself when I was younger." He said, not minding the implication of his words.
William, eyed the seat reserved for his cousin and gripped his salad fork tightly.
"Father, why not have William sit close to you?" Edward asked, "He has something to discuss-"
Zachiel cut him off, "This seat is reserved for my granddaughter-in-law. Thane’s wife."
Rosalind and Malcolm exchanged sharp glances with each other. Neither of them had an inkling of an idea where the actress was, all they heard was that she left with Thane. But, they heavily doubted that their meticulous son would take the woman to his company.
Mallory’s heart ached, she wanted nothing more than for her parents to come and pick her up, so she could leave.
Sloane piped up, "Rosalind, I hope you’re not hiding your daughter-in-law from the rest of us, I’ve yet to place a face to her name. Please, bring her down here."
Rosalind’s palms turned sweaty, "Actually, she isn’t feeling well, so she’s upstairs resting-"
Sophia interjected, "Isn’t that too rude of her? She looked fine when Thane carried her, shouldn’t she at least greet the head of the family? Just what sort of woman has married into this family once again?" She shook her head slowly from side to side.
Rosalind felt like throwing her plate at the old woman’s face.
"It’s fine." Zachiel said, "I trust my grandson will have excellent taste in picking his wife."
William chimed, "Speaking of wife, we haven’t picked up where we left off about my wedding-"
The old man cut him off, his eyes disinterested, "That will have to wait. Sophia, you’ll have to plan a grand wedding for Thane, I missed the first one, so this one must outdo it."
Sophia’s smile twitched, "I don’t think that Thane would want that-"
"I didn’t ask you for your opinion, now did I?" Her husband talked over her. "Just do as you’re told and stay in your place, like you ought to."
Sophia backed down, "I apologize."
Edward looked to his mother to help with William, but she didn’t have the motivation to say anything after getting shut down.
Sloane rolled her eyes, as she picked up a glass of wine, hoping for the insufferable dinner to end.
Zachiel turned to Malcolm and said. "By tomorrow, I want to meet with my granddaughter-in-law’s parents, and discuss the dowry."
Malcolm nodded, "Consider it done father."
He nodded, then gestured his personal attendants to handfeed him his dinner. As soon as he started chewing, the family dug onto the meals on their plates in perfect sync.
The nurse beside Cressida tried to feed her, but she was too placid to even recognize the food in front of her.
And Mallory, who was so frightened by everything, oddly found comfort in Matthew’s hand which held hers underneath the table the entire time.
