Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 509: Extra 1
As the eerie smoke arose in the sky, the city became an even darker place than it used to be. The eclipses not only managed to cover the sunlight, but also turned off any electrical devices due to their field of disruption making it impossible to use the radio to call back the heavenly rank hunters or to broadcast anything to the population.
From the fleeing zeppelins, the lucky citizens that were being evacuated were able to fully grasp the magnitude of the event that was taking place.
In one side, a dome of shadows was cast upon the city and right past it they spotted a huge cloud of mist, being lit from time to time with flashes of light that revealed the backshadow of an immense cryptid with six legs and a disfigured maw filled with countless tentacles.
Many citizens fell sick and some even passed out on the spot just by looking at the disproportionate fight that was taking place in what now was a flooded terrain. People in charge of the zeppelins closed the blinders to keep people from risking their lives just to satisfy their curiosity, but that didn't stop Piero Celes from taking a quick look down towards their destination.
"Where are we heading?" He asked.
"To the recently discovered dungeon. We have a reliable source stating that we should be safe from the titan level cryptid inside." The female staff explained as she served him a glass of whiskey. Just because a city was coming to an end didn't mean that rich people couldn't pay for an upgrade on their accommodations.
"We can't! We need to go somewhere else! What about the city in the west?" Piero raised his voice in what seemed to be anger, but was actually fear.
"We're just following orders..." The female staff apologized, but that didn't stop Piero Celes who hurried over to the next cabins where his business partners were. Lobbying to get his way was easy as breathing to him and soon enough, they all headed towards the bridge in outrage.

"You can't take us to a POI! Some of us are just regular humans!" One of them shouted as he nocked on the door angrily, then another followed.
"There's not enough hunters on this ship to keep us safe!" Together, the wealthiest citizens of the megacity of Texas demanded to speak with the captain. They were insistent and very angry since they knew the zeppelin trip was short and the only reason it took so long was because of the time it took for the ship to gain height.
In response, the pilot attempted to contact the other ships and ask for clarification on their orders, but the field of disruption coming off from the titan rank cryptid was so strong it prevented any communication which eventually led to the pilot caving and doing as he was asked.
Instead of landing like most of the zeppelins, this particular ship passed the lost city and soon left it behind. Only then did the outraged citizens who basically caused a mutiny go back to their seats on the VIP area.
Now they were far from danger Piero Celes asked for the blinders of his cabin to be opened once more to take a last glance at what he was leaving behind. Oddly enough, his supposedly beloved daughter he doted so much on wasn't even included on that list. No, his eyes were fixated on the weapon manufacturing facility where the last prototype of the anti cryptid weapon was so close to being completed.
It would have made him rich, not just city rich but world wide rich. It would have earned him a spot on the world government and a luxurious life beyond any threats. Those were his last thoughts before a powerful light burst out far in the distance from within the mist, clearing a huge portion of it before dying down and turning Piero Celes into a meaningless pillar of salt.

The day Janett was accepted in the Cryptid hunting agency had to be the happiest of her life. She always dreamed of becoming a government agent and from there it was only a matter of climbing the ladder. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she was on the right track to succeed.
Day after day, she greeted the many different hunters that came to the Cryptid hunting agency to buy the tickets out of the city. It was menial labor, but she took great pride in it. She never forgot to give them advice when she noticed a party was trying to bite more than they were capable of and never complained about her job.
She greeted everyone with a kind smile and explained the rules and regulations of the agency, she also became friends with some of the hunters and some even tried to flirt with her. She was never the prettiest or the most popular during highschool, but she knew how good she looked in the uniform.
She earned a sizeable sum for her job and was considered to be very efficient, but she never got the promotion she thought she deserved since all the spots were taken and the only way for her to climb up was if someone died. But that didn't take anything from the good life she was living and she dutifully performed her tasks to perfection.
Repeating the same thing everyday was tiresome, though it wasn't nearly as bad as the actual hunters had it. They risked their lives on the daily and most of them didn't come back from their incursions. She knew it well because one of her daily tasks was to sort the reports.
Insects, venomous snakes and terrifying beasts were nothing out of the ordinary, but some other mysterious creatures were mentioned from time to time. Some were so dreadful they couldn't even be described by the heavenly rank hunters.
The existence of said creatures was considered a top secret in the agency and they went through great lengths just to keep them as such. It was a necessary measure to keep the citizens from sleepless nights and to keep hunters from being discouraged to go outside and do their job.
After the arrival, humanity was forced to dwell in huge megacities and generating electricity was impossible without flux orbs. Nuclear energy was dangerous, fossile fuels were scarce and even the sun was a commodity in the megacity. As advanced as technology was in human society, it was impossible for such a large population to survive without electricity, hence the need for flux orbs.
It wasn't long until Janett realized that her job wasn't to keep hunters informed of the cryptid activity, the dangers, the best hunting spots or anything to keep the safe. Her job was to convince them to go outside in spite of all the dangers, in hopes that even if not all the members of a party survived, they at least brought back the precious flux orbs with them.
Doing so was a difficult task, made even more difficult after each report she read about the horrifying entities that lurked in the wilderness and gave nightmares to heavenly rank hunters.
Back then, she had no way to know that one day a party of mere ascended would manage to bring down such an entity. She also had no means to know that killing the skinwalker was nothing but the beginning of a company that would terrorize cryptids in a similar fashion as to how they used to terrorize the citizens.
If only she knew, she would have refused Sam's offer to join him in the Fallen corporation. If she had known from before, she would have never dared to betray the Dungeon Raiders.
Now, as she walked the desolated streets of a crumbling city with nothing to protect her but her non combat related ascended trait, she could only curse her luck and feel remorse.
A powerful light broke through the unnatural night caused by the eclipses blinding Janett for a few seconds and brought a wide smile to her ashen face. It was a zeppelin on their second trip to evacuate survivors.
People began crowding the area, but Janett had been lucky enough to be in the perfect spot at the right time and she was the first in line. Tears of joy rolled down her dirty face drawing a straight line down her cheeks as the zeppelin opened the doors, she was saved.
"Hey! I know you! You're with the Fallen corp!" A woman behind Janett shouted.
"You're wrong! I'm with..." Janett tried to defend herself, but the passive crowd was already turning into an angry mob.
"Don't lie! You worked behind the desk, I saw you there!" Somebody else added.
Janett realized she was on a difficult position and used the last thing she had to bargain, her dignity.
"Please, take me with you! I'll do anything!" She cried at the feet of the flight attendant.
"I'm sorry, but your corporation is the one who caused all this in the first place, we can't let you fly with us at this moment." The woman said with a wry smile as the rest of the civilians walked past Janett, some even walking over the crying woman.
If only Janett knew things would turn out this way, she would have never betrayed the Dungeon Raiders.
