Rumble—

A streak of violet-gold lightning lit up the sky, and deep thunder rumbled across the heavens.

East of the city.

No one knew when it began, but a group of black-clad figures had descended from the sky and clashed with the Heaven-Earth Alliance’s hall masters and disciples lying in ambush nearby.

The sounds of clashing weapons echoed through the alleys. Screams of pain rang out, and from time to time, dismembered limbs, pale and lifeless, could be seen on the ground being washed clean by the rain.

“It’s the Ghost Nether Sect?”

Li Rui looked at the corpse lying on the ground.

Its skull had been split open by a blade, a brutally miserable death.

Such a horrifying scene would make anyone’s knees go weak.

There were corpses from both the Heaven-Earth Alliance and the Ghost Nether Sect.

Yet Li Rui remained eerily calm.

He tore open the chest of one masked figure and revealed a cyan-green netherflame tattoo, a unique mark of the Ghost Nether Sect's followers.

“As expected.”

The Ghost Nether Sect had made their move.

It wasn’t surprising.

The massive operation mobilized by Splendid Purity Sect, the Heaven-Earth Alliance, and the county office wasn’t just for Xu Hua. It was also clearly aimed at the Ghost Nether Sect.

Li Rui crouched down.

He searched over a few Heaven-Earth Alliance disciples, his movements practiced and skillful. His ten fingers moved swiftly until he felt something unusual and then he stopped.

Soon, his face lit up with joy.

He’d indeed found quite a bit of silver.

Altogether, he had at least one hundred taels!

“This is way faster than earning a salary.”

No wonder people liked the crooked path. Honestly working day and night, who knew how long it would take to save up a hundred taels? Robbing people was way faster!

Unfortunately, there were no pills, let alone spiritual-grade ones.

But that made sense.

Who in their right mind would carry pills with them for no reason? Most martial artists consumed pills as soon as they got them.

That trope where someone hoards a rare pill and then dies, only for the enemy to get lucky, it basically never happened in real life.

Li Rui had already expected this.

He packed the silver into a pouch and tossed it into the courtyard of a nearby residence.

He had other things to do. Carrying a hundred taels of weight would only hinder his bladework.

He couldn't sacrifice the big for the small.

As for the Ghost Nether Sect corpses, he didn’t search a single one.

They all wore nightwalker clothing. Unless someone was insane, no one would hide valuables inside those. Not even silver. Searching them would be a waste of time.

He stood up again and blended once more into the darkness, continuing his hunt.

“Xu Hua!”

Rain poured down in torrents, quickly flooding the ground. Raindrops the size of pearls splashed into growing puddles, sending ripples outward.

In a narrow alley, “Keep your eyes sharp!”

Ying Liu shouted angrily at the men behind him, face dark with fury.

He kicked aside the corpse of a Ghost Nether Sect member on the ground, his face full of disgust.

“Dammit.”

He’d thought it would be an easy way to earn merit and almost lost his life.

These Ghost Nether Sect bastards were way too sneaky, swarming out of nowhere and catching him completely off guard.

His right shoulder bore a terrifying blade wound.

Ying Liu’s expression didn’t change, he was used to living on the edge. This little wound was nothing.

“Hall Master Ying, what do we do next?”

A young disciple asked nervously.

“Do what? Screw this. We're cutting our way out. Anyone else who wants this merit can have it.”

Ying Liu spat bloody saliva onto the ground.

He was scared.

The Ghost Nether Sect’s attack was far fiercer than expected. If this kept up, he might lose his life.

And without life, what use was opportunity?

“Why hasn’t Splendid Purity Sect’s expert made a move yet?”

Ying Liu scanned the area, frowning deeply.

Then, he suddenly heard a faint rustling sound. It was so quiet that if he hadn’t held his breath and focused, he wouldn’t have noticed it at all.

In the next instant, a young disciple cried out in terror.

“Ghost! It’s a ghost!!”

Ying Liu spun around, looking in the direction the disciple was pointing.

Nothing but empty air.

“What ghost, you idiot? If you scream like that again, I’ll kill you myself!”

Ying Liu snapped.

But just as he turned to scold the disciple, he saw the rest of his men, all frozen in place, mouths wide open, their eyes filled with unending fear.

“Damn it! Who the hell is playing games with me?!”

Ying Liu turned back around, and his pupils suddenly shrank.

Clatter!

A black monster at least ten feet tall stood before him. Its entire body was black, scales shimmering with a metallic sheen in the dark.

It opened a massive, bloody maw and bit into the corpse of a Ghost Nether Sect member, tearing it into pieces and swallowing it whole.

Squelch, squelch…

Scarlet blood, mixed with rainwater, flowed down and stained the ground beneath Ying Liu’s feet.

Even Ying Liu, who had seen more than his share of bloodshed was frozen stiff by the horrifying sight. A warm stream ran down from his already-soaked crotch.

“What the hell is this thing, Ghost Nether Sect?!”

BOOM!

A violent flash of lightning exploded above, briefly turning night into day.

In the next moment, the alley held only broken chunks of human flesh.

Elsewhere, on the wide streets of Qinghe City—

Dao Xiong and the two Splendid Purity Sect envoys wore expressions of utter horror.

Kong Xianian’s hair was soaked, his previously elegant demeanor now savage and twisted.

“Goddamn bastards from the Ghost Nether Sect, they actually raised a ghost beast!”

He stared warily at the massive figure in the distance.

Dao Xiong gripped his giant war hammer tightly.

He wiped rain from his face.

Calculating whether the three of them, working together, could bring the massive monster down.

The Ghost Nether Sect’s tactics had completely exceeded his expectations.

But just as the monster began to turn its body, a flying sword sliced through the rainy night.

Like a silver dragon dancing in the sky—

Squelch!

The sword pierced straight through the creature’s skull, and with a thunderous crash, the monster collapsed, sending a wave of dirty water splashing in all directions.

The three of them widened their eyes in disbelief.

Liu Zhen’s face filled with excitement: “It’s Elder Jiang’s flying sword, Elder Jiang has made his move!”

Dao Xiong stared at the scene, stunned.

The man hadn’t even arrived but his sword had.

The Jiangdong Sword Immortal, a name well-earned!

Liu Zhen quickly snapped out of his awe. “Go find Xu Hua! He took a hammer blow from Branch Master Dao earlier, he can’t have gotten far. There’s nothing more we need to do here.”

“Alright.”

Dao Xiong and Kong Xianian nodded.

In a remote alley, a bearded man ran wildly, disoriented. Even he didn’t know how many streets he’d crossed.

“Shit, shit, shit!!”

“Jiang Linxian, it’s really Jiang Linxian!”

With Jiang Linxian arriving in Qinghe, every contingency plan the Ghost Nether Sect had became a joke. He knew now, the night’s entire operation had completely failed.

Xu Hua was filled with unwillingness.

He’d been so close, just a little more and he could’ve confirmed whether it was that stablehand who had taken the secret art.

Suddenly!

A black figure appeared in front of him.

On its back, a massive saber.

In a flash, the man had closed the distance. Gripping the saber’s hilt, he swung it in a wide arc directly at Xu Hua.

White Ape Phi Blade!
