Farm Girl's Manor-Chapter 1350: Extra Four About Having Children
Chapter 1350: Extra Four About Having Children
The Mo Family had tidied up the house spick and span the day before, and on this day, they all got up early, had breakfast, and then gathered at the front gate to wait.
Mo Yan was helped down from the carriage by Xiao Ruiyuan and immediately saw Cui Qingrou, who was beaming with joy as she came up to greet them. Mo Yan couldn’t help but chide, "Mother, it’s not as though we don’t know where our own house’s front gate is, how could you come to greet us in person?"
Accidentally touching her mother’s ice-cold hand, she couldn’t help but reprimand Lvzhi and Lvmei, who were standing by, "Don’t you know to stop her? What if Mother catches a cold?"
Lvzhi and Lvmei didn’t dare to say they couldn’t stop her and quickly bowed to admit their fault, "It’s our mistake, please punish us, Miss!"
Mo Yan had more to say, but Cui Qingrou quickly stopped her, "I wanted to come out and wait, how could they stop me!"
Mo Yan glanced at the two maids and, covering Cui Qingrou’s cold hand, said, "Even so, they should have wrapped you in a thick piece of clothing to block the wind. They simply weren’t attentive enough. Mother, you shouldn’t indulge them too much."
Instead of getting angry at her personal maids being scolded, Cui Qingrou’s eyes and brows were filled with smiles, "Alright, alright, Mother will listen to you and give them a proper talking to later."
Mo Yan knew that her mother’s words were just for show, but since she had achieved her goal of reprimanding the maids, she didn’t pursue the matter further.
Xin Er came forward affectionately and took her sister’s arm, saying, "Sister, during the days you weren’t at home, Mother talked about you every day! Today when you came back for your visit, Mother was eagerly waiting for you, and no one could persuade her otherwise."
Mo Yan felt a surge of emotions, but still said, "Mother, please don’t do this in the future, your daughter will often come back to see you."
Cui Qingrou gave a glance to her son-in-law standing behind her daughter and gently patted the back of her hand, saying, "You’re married now, it wouldn’t be proper to keep running back to your maternal home."
Once a daughter is married, she belongs to another family; frequent visits to her maternal home may displease her in-laws and might invite gossip from others. Just like Cui Qingrou, even though the Cui family was not far from the Mo Family, she rarely went back unless it was a festival or there was something to celebrate at the Cui family.
Mo Yan understood what Cui Qingrou meant, and so did Xiao Ruiyuan. He stepped forward and bowed to Cui Qingrou, saying earnestly, "Mother-in-law, the General Mansion has no elders, and Yan Yan still has much to learn about managing the General Mansion. I hope you can continue to teach her."
His words were beautifully spoken and his intention was clear: he did not mind his wife visiting her maternal home often and he thoughtfully provided an excuse so that when Mo Yan did visit, she need not worry about any unpleasant comments from others.
Mo Yan was satisfied and gave Xiao Ruiyuan an approving look, then said to Cui Qingrou, "Mother, in the future your daughter will often come back to learn about household management from you. Please don’t think your daughter is too slow to learn."
"Oh, not at all, Mother couldn’t be happier if you were a bit slower," Cui Qingrou replied joyfully. She couldn’t wish for more if her daughter visited often!
But seeing her son-in-law dote on her daughter like this, Cui Qingrou felt it wasn’t entirely right. However, with her son-in-law present, it wasn’t appropriate to say anything, so she planned to remind them in private.
While chatting, the family made their way to the main hall. It wasn’t long before Lvmei brought in two cups of warm tea. Kneeling respectfully on the cushions, Mo Yan and Xiao Ruiyuan offered the tea for the ’back-to-home’ ritual to Cui Qingrou.
Cui Qingrou smilingly drank it down, then on behalf of her husband, she drank from another cup. She then took the red envelopes presented by Lvzhi and gave one to each of her daughter and son-in-law, completing the tea ceremony.
After the Lantern Festival, Mo Qingze had returned to his residence in Jing City to continue his "work" life, so he was unable to attend his daughter and son-in-law’s ritual of serving tea. Now, Zhenzhen and Yun Zhao were also enrolled in school, and the house was filled only with ladies.
Cui Qingrou sat next to Mo Yan and scrutinized her daughter’s face closely. Seeing a thin layer of powder on the face of her daughter, who never bothered with makeup, and the hint of blue beneath the eyes that couldn’t be completely concealed, as a person with firsthand experience, she knew all too well why.
Casting a discreet glance across, she saw her son-in-law holding a cup of tea but staring intently at the daughter beside him. She was inwardly happy for her daughter but also worried that the young couple might have harmed their health with their first experience of marital intimacy...
Seeing the worry in her mother’s expression, Mo Yan asked with concern, "Mother, what’s wrong? Did you catch a cold from being outside earlier?"
Cui Qingrou snapped back to reality and hastily shook her head, "No, not at all, I’m just worried that with your father not at home and your two brothers in school, there is no one to keep your husband company."
