Chapter 150: Chapter 151 Who is Sick_1
Chapter 150 -151 Who is Sick_1
“Wife, what are you planning to plant in this patch of ground?” Erliang asked as he hoed the soil.
“I’ll grow some vegetables over here and some flowers and plants over there. In the future, whatever we want to eat, we can just pick it from the garden,” Muniang said as she used a small hoe to break up the clumps of soil that Erliang had turned over.
Muniang’s courtyard had always been left vacant, as there was never any time to tend to it. Now that she finally had some leisure, she thought to plant something in the yard, as it always looked so bare and empty.
“Tomatoes, green beans, potatoes, chili peppers, these are all essential household vegetables. We don’t have any at home, and it’s always a hassle to buy them from the town. The courtyard is empty anyway, so we might as well make use of it,” Muniang said.
“Ah! Yes!” Energized by the mention of food, Erliang got back to work with renewed vigor.
She could have asked the servants to help, but Muniang, having nothing else to do, decided to do it herself.
After an afternoon of hard work, they finally turned over the soil on both sides of the courtyard. The center of the courtyard was paved with bluestone slabs, forming a pathway that led straight from the main gate to the main house, while the sides were planted with flowers, plants, and vegetables according to Muniang’s plan.
At that moment, a carrier pigeon flew into Jin Feng’s hands. He unfolded the note from the cylinder and his brows furrowed deeply – something significant had happened in the Capital City.
As dusk fell, Muniang went to prepare dinner. Erliang was still tilling the soil. Jin Feng, also holding a hoe, approached them, “General, can’t you really remember anything at all? The clashing of armor, battling on the field, your soldiers following you loyally, ready to give their lives – ”
The more Jin Feng spoke, the more agitated he became, but Erliang just looked at him blankly: “Wife says you’re sick in the head, why don’t you see a doctor?”
Jin Feng no longer felt like joking with Erliang. He was aware of how urgent the situation described in the letter was. If Erliang did not recover soon, the entire country might be thrown into turmoil.
Jin Feng dropped the hoe and grabbed Erliang’s arm with desperation, “General! Think hard, try to remember, maybe you can recall something? I’m not sick, everything I’m telling you is the truth!”
Erliang stood still in a daze, his expression still one of confusion.
Jin Feng hung his head in defeat. It wasn’t up to Erliang to decide whether to recover or not. However, as the situation in the court grew increasingly intense, he was the only one who could quell the strife, yet he remained unconscious.

Jin Feng felt incredibly dejected, experiencing such a sense of defeat for the first time. He was powerless to do anything except stay by Erliang’s side, waiting for him to wake up. But when would that be?
Jin Feng clenched his fists. He would wait, no matter what!
Muniang, who was in the distance, observed all of this. Seeing Jin Feng’s unusual behavior that day, she suspected that something must have gone wrong. Shaking her head, Muniang dismissed the thought. She was no saint concerned with the affairs of the world; all she could do was to protect her loved ones from harm.
In the evening, after Muniang had finished washing up, she saw Erliang sitting on the bed, lost in thought.
“What’s wrong? Are you not full from dinner, thinking about tasty food again?” Muniang teased with a laugh.
Erliang looked at Muniang, dazed, “Wife, is it Dafeng who’s sick, or is it me?”
Muniang’s smile faltered, “Why bring this up all of a sudden?”
“Wife, Dafeng says I’m a General. He seemed very anxious and serious. Am I really a General? I don’t remember my past,” Erliang said, his tone touched with a sense of grievance.
Muniang held his hand, “If you don’t remember, then don’t remember. I’m with you, what’s there to fear? Even if you were a general, so what? Now you’re my husband, an ordinary person. Don’t you like this kind of life?”
Dafeng quickly replied, “Like it! Of course, I like the life with my wife! It’s just that Jin Feng was so strange today, talking to me about these things.”
Muniang laughed, “He’s just anxious, that’s all. Don’t take it to heart.”
Only then did Dafeng smile, “Then, my dear, when I was a general, I must have been very impressive, right?”
A vein popped on Muniang’s forehead. This guy’s main point must be this, right!
A month flew by, and the house of Madam Liu was finally built, just lacking the ridge beam. Mrs. Liang settled everyone’s wages one by one, and then started preparing for tomorrow’s housewarming banquet.
The watermelons in Muniang’s Tianzhuang had another harvest, which were sent directly to Chen Ji and made a good sum of money, on top of the new variety of vegetables sent to Dongxing Building, which had her purse practically bulging with earnings.
Muniang often reflected to herself, this is the life of the wealthy!
Considering the villagers had also worked hard these days, Madam Liu decided to make the housewarming banquet especially grand, as a reward for their labor.
Today, they were just doing the preparation work; Muniang was free, so she went next door to help Madam Liu.
Because the weather was still very hot and many things couldn’t be left out, the preparations they could do today included setting up tables, putting up canopies, washing and cutting vegetables to be plated; the men did the heavy lifting, so there wasn’t much for the two women to do.
In the kitchen, Muniang and Madam Liu washed vegetables while chatting.
Madam Liu couldn’t help but complain again, “Can you believe how shameless your eldest uncle is? He hardly did any work this past month, always sneaking off when he got the chance. Yet, when it was time for settling wages yesterday, he was the most timely and extended his hand the quickest. Never mind that our third brother fixed their house last time without taking a single ‘silver’, even if he had accepted money, he should’ve at least done some real work, right? I really want to drive him out!”
Muniang burst out laughing, “Look at that, you were saying earlier how you would’ve been lucky if they didn’t come. Well, wasn’t I right? It’s only a pain when they’re around.”
“Isn’t that the truth? I’ve been annoyed for a whole month, just seeing him vexes me! And yesterday, he made a point of telling me that Mr. Qiao’s family would all come to support tomorrow’s housewarming banquet, making it sound as though they’re doing me a favor. But who doesn’t know they’re just eyeing the good dishes on my table!”
Yet Muniang said, “I think they’ve got their eyes on more than just the good dishes on your table.”
Madam Liu asked, “What else then?”
Muniang suggested, “You’d better lock up all the valuable things in your house tomorrow; don’t leave them out in the open, it attracts attention.”
Madam Liu immediately understood and said indignantly, “You’re right, I almost forgot! They’ve never been able to stand seeing me with money. If they see that I have something valuable, they might just help themselves to it tomorrow, and I wouldn’t be able to stop them, especially with my foolishly filial third brother. He’s sure to give away whatever his mother points at.”
Thinking about Madam Liu’s current relationship with the Qiao family, Muniang felt genuinely concerned for them. “Auntie, don’t always think so poorly of your third brother. I believe he now knows what regret is.”
Madam Liu retorted discontentedly, “Him, feel regret? His parents matter more to him than his own life. I couldn’t trust him in the least! Our family has finally started living well; I won’t let my hard-earned ‘silver’ be squandered away by him ever again.”
