Chapter 47: Chapter 47 Hair Removal Specialist?

Perhaps due to the game’s mechanics, there was a dim oil lamp every dozen or so meters along the walls of the mine. While it wasn’t bright enough to see everything clearly, it was sufficient to navigate the path.

Han Qiwu pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight function, only to find that its light couldn’t penetrate even a centimeter.

"Oh, I see. No wonder torches are a must." Han Qiwu put away his phone. The power of the game rules was truly terrifying!

Carefully, Han Qiwu explored the first layer of the mine.

He found absolutely nothing.

Just a single cable car going down.

Han Qiwu: "....What a waste of my emotions. So this is just the game’s starting hub?"

As he stepped into the cable car, it started moving downward with a rattle, without him needing to press anything.

A few seconds later, the cable car stopped, and Han Qiwu was automatically pushed out. The cable car doors then promptly closed behind him.

[You have arrived at Mine Layer 2]

"So I didn’t buy a ticket, and the service attitude needs to be this bad?!" Han Qiwu complained, though he barely had time to rant before spotting the creatures inside the mine.

In the distant darkness, four glowing red dots rapidly began to grow larger. Under the dim light of the oil lamps, Han Qiwu also noticed their long tails dragging behind them.

[Mine Rats]

[Level: 1]

[Description: The most basic creatures in the mine. They have high attack speed but low health.]

"Squeak, squeak, squeak!"

Two of the giant rats in his line of sight were charging straight at Han Qiwu. Their movement speed wasn’t particularly fast, but each rat was about 30 to 40 centimeters long.

Terrifying!

Han Qiwu had never seen such a thing before. Now he understood why the cable car pushed him out.

It was afraid he might make a last-minute escape before the fight!

"It’s just two rats! Am I, a proud seven-foot-tall man, going to be scared by rats?" Han Qiwu took a deep breath, gripping a torch in his left hand and a rusty sword in his right.

Charge!

"Thunk, thunk."

Han Qiwu misjudged his swings with the sword, missing the rats entirely and instead got hit by them on both his legs.

[HP -2]

Before Han Qiwu could react, the two rats began clawing at him, one on each side.

Their flurry of attacks left scratches all over Han Qiwu’s legs, nearly plucking off his leg hairs.

"What are you two, professional waxers?" Han Qiwu angrily started smashing his sword down on the rats with all his might.

In terms of smashing, a hammer or axe might have been more effective than the sword. However, during his attacks, Han Qiwu noticed one advantage: the sword’s attack range was wide, roughly in a 150° arc.

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

Han Qiwu swung the sword until it was cutting through the air audibly. After a dozen seconds, the two rats stiffened, collapsed to the ground, and their bodies slowly faded away.

Han Qiwu: "?? These things self-refresh? Where’s my loot?"

Once the two rat corpses vanished, two chunks of one-kilogram meat appeared on the ground, each glowing faintly under the system’s light.

Loot: [Mine Rat Meat] ×2

[Mine Rat Meat]

[Use: Fishing Bait]

[Value: 20 Gold]

[Note: This is already the weakest mine-dwelling creature.]

Han Qiwu glanced at his HP. These trashy rats clawed at him like crazy, and his HP dropped just as quickly—he lost ten points in just a few seconds.

This is the weakest mine creature?

Are you sure this is a casual game?

Han Qiwu pulled out a raspberry, eating it while examining his wounds.

He hadn’t realized earlier, but now he was shocked.

His pants had been shredded into strips by the two rats, but his ankles and calves only bore light scratches, akin to cat claw marks.

Reflecting on the battle, while it was disturbing and horrifying, the pain wasn’t too bad.

He let out a breath of relief.

Moreover, Han Qiwu noticed that his stamina bar hadn’t decreased. It seemed using weapons didn’t cost stamina, which was good news.

With clarity in his mind, Han Qiwu pocketed the loot, took out his pickaxe from his inventory, and started mining a nearby rock.

[Rock] ×1

[Rock] ×1

"This isn’t ore, is it?" Han Qiwu walked a few steps further, finally spotting a dark red rock with coppery specks.

Mine it!

[Copper Ore] ×1

[You have discovered the stairs to the next layer.]

A double win.

Finally, I’ve found you, my long-awaited copper ore.

With copper ore, I can craft copper ingots, upgrade my tools, and maybe even make a sprinkler someday...

Wait, sprinklers are still off-limits since they require iron ore.

Alright, back to mining.

Now that the stairs are unlocked, should I go to the next layer or completely mine out this one?

After pondering briefly, Han Qiwu made his decision.

He still didn’t know if mine resources would respawn, but to return to the surface, he had to take the cable car—and he’d already tried; the second layer didn’t allow access.

He’d have to descend to the fifth layer to ride it back up.

Since he didn’t bring much in the way of supplies this trip, wasting time on the upper layers might mean running out of stamina before reaching the fifth layer.

How heartbroken would Mr. Tang be? Losing such a clever, handsome, and witty student?

No way! Such a loss couldn’t be allowed!

To the next layer.

[You have arrived at Mine Layer 3]

As soon as he landed, Han Qiwu began frantically swinging his rusty sword around his legs.

What’s wrong with swinging prophylactically? It doesn’t even cost stamina anyway.

From the earlier battle, Han Qiwu learned his eyesight was fine, but his reaction speed was lacking, making it easier to miss his attacks.

But if the enemies are charging at me anyway, why should I rush to them?

Isn’t a defensive counterattack much nicer?

"Squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak!"

Just as he expected, three pairs of blood-red eyes rapidly closed the distance after he landed. This time, however, before they could even get close, Han Qiwu had already landed several hits with his sword.

"Come at me, my personal waxing specialists!" Han Qiwu yelled to dispel his fear as he swung his sword and dodged around.

While his movement speed was slower than the rats’, his longer weapon gave him a significant reach advantage.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

A series of slashes left deep gashes on the rats’ bodies.

When the rats eventually got close, Han Qiwu tried switching to an axe to deliver some disemboweling strikes.

[Only weapons can be used to attack in the mine.]

Unable to switch?

Helpless, Han Qiwu kept swinging his rusty sword at the pests.

Thankfully, the mine rats had low health. After a bout of maneuvering, Han Qiwu dealt with them all.

He stored the two chunks of loot meat with satisfaction and began mining again.

...

After mining about a dozen rocks, Han Qiwu finally stumbled upon stairs leading to the next layer.

Without hesitation, he went straight into the next layer.
