Chapter 82: Chapter 82: The Porcelain Bumping Fishing Tactic

[Weather Forecast]

Tomorrow will be a bright, sunny day, perfect for an outing.

[Life Tips]

No gift can please everyone. If you receive a disliked gift, it will lower affection levels.

[Almanac]

Favor treasure hunting, avoid mining.

[Shennong’s Cookbook]

"I heard you’ve grown potatoes? Then you’ll definitely need this."

After watching a short video

[You’ve learned how to make potato pancakes]

"Finally restored!" Han Qiwu felt a small weight lifted off his shoulders.

The tip in the life advice section reminded Han Qiwu to give gifts carefully. Offering something disliked could backfire despite good intentions.

"Treasure hunting today? No mining?" Han Qiwu’s eyes lit up. Looked like it was going to be a fruitful day.

He’d already planned to go fishing today, and now he’d also learned the potato pancake recipe from Shennong. As long as he caught two sardines, he could whip up the "Starry Gaze" dish.

With "Starry Gaze," Han Qiwu would gain a +5 bonus in fishing specialization!

Once he cracked open the treasure chest and scored some crystal spheres, he could unlock them all at once!

Perfect!

Though the potato pancake recipe wasn’t exactly what Han Qiwu first expected. Shennong’s version called for cutting the potatoes into strips and steaming them, mashing them into potato puree, adding a bit of flour, and finally frying them until they turned golden brown.

But that could wait. Fishing came first!

Han Qiwu donned his raincoat, grabbed the potatoes and the ores he planned to donate to the museum, and set off for his fishing trip.

Riding his bike, an image of a solitary fisherman in a bamboo hat and cape flashed in his mind.

He’d have to ask Grandpa Chen where he could get a set of those someday. Just thinking about the vibe... bamboo hats and straw capes never lose out!

When he arrived at the seaside, the rain had let up a bit. Observing the weather, Han Qiwu decided to go for black sea bream.

Based on the value of cavefish and stonerollers, he hypothesized that the more secluded the fishing spot, the more valuable the catch—assuming they were of the same quality, of course.

Han Qiwu also wanted to try his luck catching something like sea cucumbers.

Cold sea cucumber salad is truly delicious.

The rocks were slippery from the rain, but Han Qiwu’s agility saved him. By his estimate, he could probably take on five of his old selves now.

No exaggeration.

Strength training—whoever practices it knows the truth.

After walking four or five minutes across the rocks, Han Qiwu stood before a rock cave and assessed the situation.

Luckily, the tides hadn’t risen. The waterline around the rocks was safe for fishing.

Last time he got back home, Han Qiwu did some research. Apparently, tides aren’t affected by rain; they’re influenced by the moon’s positioning.

Though it might have something to do with Wu Gang too. If he saw him next time, he’d make sure to ask.

No sooner had Han Qiwu settled down and pulled out his fishing rod than four or five black sea bream appeared from the cracks between the rocks with a "blub blub."

Through the murky seawater, Han Qiwu could actually see the black sea bream staring at him with wide eyes. And somehow, he could vaguely guess what they were thinking.

Black Sea Bream: "Who are you? Why are you in our home?"

Han Qiwu: "I came to fish. Isn’t it perfect timing for you guys to be back?"

Black Sea Bream: "....."

After a moment of silent eye contact, the fish turned and attempted to swim away.

Not so fast!

Seeing this, Han Qiwu quickly swung his copper rod into the water.

Instinctively, he infused his fishing swing with a bit of the "Rising Sun" technique, adding power through his waist.

Under Han Qiwu’s calculated trajectory, the hook landed squarely next to the fleeing black sea bream’s mouth.

Black Sea Bream: "??? We already said no, why are you still pushing it?!"

Han Qiwu: "No way, you must eat. I didn’t make this trip just for fun! Gotta fill up!"

Black Sea Bream: "Darn it, one bite of this and you’ll be the one who’s full!"

With the water’s flow nudging the hook closer, it eventually reached the black sea bream’s mouth.

Black Sea Bream: "(°△°|||), I fell for it."

Though the process encountered a slight hiccup, Han Qiwu succeeded in reeling the fish into his fishing game.

The ocean might be your domain, but in the fishing game, it’s my turf.

Two minutes later, Han Qiwu triumphantly pulled up the black sea bream.

Looking at the fish in his inventory, Han Qiwu belatedly understood why the reward for the fishing route included enhanced vision.

Wow. This is way too practical.

If the copper rod’s maximum casting range could be divided into ten segments, Han Qiwu’s current vision covered about five segments, minus two when peering through water.

With his current visual abilities, Han Qiwu could at least perform this kind of "bump-and-snatch fishing" technique.

If the fish won’t come to the hook, my hook will come to the fish.

"Once my fishing skill levels up and my vision gets even better, I could actively seek out fish schools and target the exact size and type of fish I want." Han Qiwu’s mind rapidly formulated multiple levels of strategies.

Enhanced vision—simply terrifying.

Thinking back to his recent "bump-and-snatch fishing" strategy, a mischievous idea popped into Han Qiwu’s mind.

If he could consciously trigger the fishing game, he could use bait to lure fish over and snatch them with an empty hook before they even bit the bait.

If this worked, bait could be reused multiple times.

He didn’t need much bait while fishing outdoors. After all, he could catch fish without bait outside.

The main use of this fishing method would be inside the caves.

The only limitation to the yield of cavefish was bait.

If he could make this work—using one bait to catch ten or more fish—that’d be two or three thousand gold coins!

Fishing all day, and you could buy a barn!

But to successfully "bump-snatch" fish, he first needed to determine whether the fishing game was triggered by the hook touching the fish’s mouth.

To test this, Han Qiwu took the black sea bream he just caught, knocked it out with his elbow, and tossed it back into the water.

Experiment time.

The dazed black sea bream floated sluggishly, moving at a crawl.

Seizing the moment before it reacted, Han Qiwu swung his copper rod and cast the hook toward the black sea bream again. This time, the hook touched the fish’s tail.

No fishing game triggered.

"Uh oh."

The black sea bream’s hard skull seemed well-equipped to withstand heavy blows. In just a moment, it regained its senses, whipped its tail, and started to flee.

Black Sea Bream: "Something’s wrong! Retreat immediately! I’m outta here!"

"Oh no, you don’t!" Han Qiwu gripped his fishing rod with both hands, moving toward the direction the fish turned.

"Splash!"

Just then, a wave surged, pushing the hook straight into the black sea bream’s mouth once more.

Black Sea Bream: "...What’s wrong with this ocean? Even the sea’s working against us fish now?"

This scene left Han Qiwu roaring with laughter.

Truly the King of the Ocean candidates!

Ocean, grant me your power!
