Chapter 125: Chapter 98 King Bomb_3

Unless Gaven had completely lost his mind, he wouldn’t send Gnolls to face an actual Giant Dragon. Given their current nature, they would surely turn traitor in the heat of battle, turning their weapons on themselves, not just the Eagle Cliff Burrow Gnolls but also those of the Blackwell Tribe are likely to behave in this manner.

Gaven was confident he could reform them, but that’s for the future, not now. At present, they still acted on primal instincts.

After all, ask a group of farmers to slay a dragon, and they will decline, too. Their situation wouldn’t be any better than that of the Gnolls.

Slaying a dragon is an act that requires both great courage and great wisdom.

"When I have my plan ready, there will be plenty for you to do." Gaven’s strategy was still brewing. At the very least, he wanted to witness that young Red Dragon in person and assess its strength before proceeding. Any Dragon Slayer who blindly rushed into the Giant Dragon Nest was a fool, and ultimately, they would end up as excrement within the Dragon’s Nest, their gear becoming the treasure hidden within.

The assessment task was simple: Aivensa just had to provoke the young Red Dragon as usual, or she didn’t even need to provoke it at all; merely passing by from a distance would cause the dragon to chase her down, biting and refusing to let go in a frenzied rage.

"Chief Gaven, I have given some serious thought to the alliance you mentioned earlier," Chester revisited the old topic, "I believe our approach is still too conservative, and we should be more ambitious."

"Oh?" Gaven showed a very interested look, "How so, ’more ambitious’?"

Gaven raised the issue of forming an alliance between the two Gnoll tribes during the victory celebration previously.

This old fox, hemming and hawing, played ambiguous, claiming that although the Eagle Cliff Burrow had dealt with the Harpy threat, they had suffered considerable losses themselves and needed to weigh their options carefully, starting from mutual trade and gradually progressing.

Their attitude had done a complete one-eighty turn in less than half a day.

Gaven, of course, knew why they had changed their stance but didn’t call them out on it.

"I have heard about the Blackwell situation from Bark. Although Chief Gaven is not a Gnoll, the deeds you do are genuinely for the benefit of the Gnolls. The life that the Blackwell Tribe Gnolls lead now is something many Gnolls can’t even dare to imagine in their entire lives.

We were able to resolve the Harpy threat thanks to the Leader; had the Leader not been here, we could not have defeated the majority of them, let alone completely drive them away. I’ve said too much in gratitude, and I believe the Leader is probably tired of hearing it.

If possible, I would also like my people to live a life akin to that in Blackwell.

But after much contemplation over the night, I realized that I simply do not have the power to do so, even with the Harpies gone from Eagle Cliff.

I cannot give the Gnolls of the burrow the same lifestyle as the Blackwell Tribe.

I’m getting on in years and can’t keep up with the younger ones anymore.

Therefore, I wish to abdicate and have Chief Gaven assume the position of the highest Leader of Eagle Cliff Burrow. Of course, this doesn’t mean that I would leave everything to the Leader. I should be of use for a couple more years, and as long as I draw breath, I will do my utmost to support the Leader."

The Eagle Cliff Cave Chieftain Chester spoke earnestly and movingly.

If he had said these words during last night’s victory celebration, Gaven might have been genuinely moved and seen him as a good Clan Leader who indeed had the whole tribe’s best interests at heart.

But stating them now, it was nothing more than the visage of a politician who changes his stance with the wind.

Seeing the tide turn against him and rather than waiting for the Eagle Cliff Gnolls to be lured away by Gaven using a young dragon, he decided it was better to join Gaven proactively—at the very least, the initiative would still be in his own hands.
