Chapter 2042 - Hurtful Words

Su Yi narrowed his eyes, then met the delicate youth’s gaze without backing down in the slightest. “Is that painting your work?”

“In the face of absolute boredom, painting is the only way to pass the time,” laughed the youth.

“It’s terrible,” said Su Yi.

The delicate youth froze, then glowered. “What’s wrong with it?”

“Ants are ants. They’re among the countless living beings in this world. Were an ant capable of trampling the universe beneath its feet, would it still be an ant?” Su Yi asked flatly.

“Why wouldn’t it be?” The delicate young man frowned and argued, “The whole point of this painting is that even the humblest of ants has an opportunity to transcend the Grand Dao!”

Su Yi snickered. “Never mind an ant, how many of the countless people in existence will ever be able to trample a universe beneath their feet?”

Before the youth could respond, Su Yi continued, “These paintings of yours might seem like they’re full of spirit, or like you’re seeing the greatness in the smallest of creatures, but in truth, they’re hollow and unrealistic!”

He then gestured to another painting on the walls. It depicted a fish jumping out of the water and devouring celestial bodies.

“The same goes for that painting. It might seem imaginative, but in truth, it’s an empty dream. It isn’t worth considering in detail.”

Su Yi swept his gaze across the paintings lining the walls, frowned, and said no more.

The scholarly young man glowered, his gaze imposing and intense.

“A fish lives in the dark northern seas. They call it a ‘Kun,’ and when it spreads its wings, they’re like clouds blotting out the heavens, and its enormity fills the sky. How could devouring a few celestial bodies be an empty dream?”

He slowly rose to his feet. “In ancient times, there was a divine ant with a body forged out of divine gold. It fed on the light of dawn and drank the dew, and it was mighty enough to overturn the heavens. Why couldn’t it stand atop the universe?”

A terrifying and strange aura emanated from the youth’s body. His eyes were suddenly red and sinister, and he suddenly seemed far more vicious.

“You don’t understand the Dao of Painting. That’s fine, but how dare you insult my work!?” The delicate youth’s loose, long hair fluttered around him, and his murderous intent locked onto Su Yi. “Give me a satisfactory reason, or I’ll use your blood and soul for art supplies!”

“A reason?” Su Yi laughed. “I’m provoking you on purpose.”

The delicate youth instantly lost it.

Su Yi, meanwhile, leaped forward and swung his fist like a sword.

The youth pressed down on the ground, swung his palm, and collided with him head-on.

Boom!!

A heaven-shaking impact rang out. The delicate youth staggered on his feet and took several steps back.

Meanwhile, Su Yi’s pupils constricted. This guy is seriously this strong!?

He’d drawn directly upon the power of reincarnation. An attack like that would have been enough to kill a Lesser God, but the delicate youth had blocked it without so much as a hair out of place.

“You’re deliberately provoking me? You deserve death for that!” The delicate youth waved his sleeve, and something unbelievable happened.

The painting of an ant treading on the universe shifted, and the ant shot out of it, blurring into a beam of black light and charging at Su Yi.

Bang!!!

Su Yi was instantly forced back.

The paltry, insignificant little ant’s power was incomparably terrifying. A single strike made him feel as if a whole world were bearing down on him.

But before Su Yi could give the matter any further thought, the ant attacked once more, quick as lightning. It unleashed a pelting rain of attacks, each strike with enough power to overturn heaven and earth.

In a flash, Su Yi took over a hundred explosive attacks, and he was repeatedly forced back.

He couldn’t help but be surprised.

This is just the first floor of the tower, but the divine wraith is already so strong! That little ant of his is even stronger than the Dao Protector Ghost Gods I killed in the City of the Lost!

Su Yi no longer dared to hesitate. He struck with all his might.

Boom!

His sword intent erupted, manifesting visions of the cycle of reincarnation. His aura instantly rose to peak strength. Now, when he attacked, he was like the ruler of the netherworld presiding over reincarnation.

Bang!!

The ant was instantly under terrifying suppression, and it flew backward, almost ground away to nothingness.

The delicate-looking young man swayed on his feet, his blood and qi churning.

Su Yi instantly understood. The ant’s power actually came from the youth; it was effectively one of his Daoist magics. Thus, damaging the ant would damage the youth, too!

“Hmph!” The delicate youth drew his fingertip through the air, and the fish devouring celestial bodies shot forth as well.

Practically simultaneously, the entire hall transformed into a boundless ocean, and the fish expanded until it was nine hundred thousand feet long. Wings sprouted from its back, like clouds blotting out the sun and shaking the starry dome of heaven.

It was like the descent of a true Kun Peng!

The sea churned violently, stirring up towering waves. When the Kun Peng beat its wings, explosive, destructive power came crashing down. All of it slammed at Su Yi.

A powerful sense of impending crisis rushed into Su Yi’s mind. He took a deep breath, and his power of reincarnation swept outward, manifesting a grand world of reincarnation that bore down on the entire area.

Boom!!!

Heaven and earth swayed, and water flowed in reverse. The world of reincarnation rumbled and boomed as it relentlessly ground away the Kun Peng’s attacks.

This put enormous pressure on Su Yi.

Then, the ant attacked again too, quick as lightning.

“Scram!” Su Yi’s eyes flashed like cold lightning, and he pressed down on the air and unleashed the Six Paths Sword Wheel.

Bang!!

The ant was ruthlessly sent flying.

But then, the world of reincarnation broke, unable to take anymore. The Kun Peng’s massive wings shattered it.

Even Su Yi suffered the resulting impact and staggered on his feet. Blood gushed from the corners of his mouth.

“How dare you slander this lofty one’s paintings? You must die as punishment!” The delicate young man threw back his head and laughed, his gaze full of madness and ferocity.

As his voice rang out, the Kun Peng swooped down once more, its enormous wings stirring up endless destructive power.

It was just too terrifying.

The entire sea was thrown into turmoil.

“Punishment? Ah, but it seems to me that the battle’s finally gotten interesting.” Su Yi’s eyes lit up, and his will to fight ignited.

In the City of the Lost, his power over reincarnation countered the Curse of the Ancient Gods. It could suppress even against strange and terrifying Ghost Gods, so he’d never been in any real danger to speak of.

This was different. This was but the first of the divine wraiths imprisoned in the Tower of Ancient Evil, but his unparalleled ferocity was far beyond any ordinary Lesser God.

Moreover, Su Yi now had Li Fuyou’s memories and experiences. He’d long since realized that the youth had been an unquestionably mighty god in life. He’d achieved the Dao through painting, and his power was all-encompassing!

But he was still ultimately just a divine wraith not of his era. He’d died a long time ago; this was but a remnant condensed of his lingering soul and resentment.

And the power of reincarnation could counter him!

Were that not the case, even a true Mid-Rank God would have been helpless against the young painter. No power but reincarnation could destroy him!

This, the delicate young man had in common with the Ghost Gods of the City of the Lost. Both were effectively undying and indestructible.

“Die!” Su Yi leaped through the air and attacked with all his might. Soon, he and the Kun Peng were locked in fierce combat. Meanwhile, the ant attacked whenever the opportunity arose, presenting an enormous threat to Su Yi.

But this was exactly the kind of battle Su Yi had been longing for!

Kaboom!

Heaven and earth shook, and destructive power swept outward.

Within moments, Su Yi was injured in numerous places, and his clothes were red with blood, but he didn’t mind in the slightest.

He was completely immersed in combat, and his essence, qi, and spirit rumbled and boomed. All the while, countless unbelievable revelations regarding the Dao of the Sword surged into his sea of consciousness.

These were Li Fuyou’s experiences in the Dao of the Sword!

Now, as the fierce battle raged on, Su Yi repeatedly drew from these experiences and made them his own. In the process, he repeatedly tempered, elevated, and transformed his own swordsmanship.

His combat strength steadily increased, and his attacks grew mightier and more forceful.

Even as his and Li Fuyou’s attainments fused, Su Yi’s grasp of the mysteries of reincarnation transformed too. New revelations surrounding reincarnation flooded his mind too.

His power of the Grand Dao of Reincarnation silently rose, transforming in new and unprecedented ways.

His attainments in the Dao of the Sword fused with Li Fuyou’s and transformed, while his grasp of reincarnation advanced and grew.

All of these changes made him even stronger. It was like an endless, wondrous cycle of improvement, as each change built upon those before it.

Su Yi was immersed in this feeling of transformation through combat. He was even a bit intoxicated by it.

He’d forgotten himself completely!

It was to the point that he didn’t even notice how increasingly powerful his attacks were. At first, he could barely contend with his enemies, but the situation gradually turned around, and soon, he was suppressing them instead.

Within moments, numerous gashes appeared on the Kun Peng’s massive body.

The mighty ant capable of overturning the heavens repeatedly tried to ambush Su Yi, but it could no longer threaten him.

The delicate young man watched from a distance, his expression dark.

One of the paintings depicted a golden rooster perched on a cloud as the masses prostrated themselves before it. When the young waved his sleeve, it suddenly beat its wings and flew out of the painting, like a resplendent golden sun entering the world.

Its claws ripped the skies asunder with tyrannical force, shattering the air in its wake.

And its cry was even more terrifying. It shook the soul with such force that even deities risked having their souls shattered into pieces. When the rooster called, the sun rose!

The golden rooster was incomparably ferocious, even more terrifying than the ant and Kun Peng.

Su Yi had only just seized the advantage, but when the rooster joined the fray, his advantage disappeared without a trace, and numerous new, bloody claw marks soon appeared all over his body.

His skin was torn, and his flesh was ripped open, but Su Yi didn’t even seem to notice. He was completely immersed in the wondrous state of enlightenment the battle had brought him. His revelations regarding reincarnation and the Dao of the Sword quickly manifested them in his attacks.

His Dao of the Sword slowly but surely grew stronger, and his destructive power was increasingly shocking. It was as if a world of reincarnation had descended upon the hall, manifesting the cycle of the six paths and countless taboo and mysterious visions of reincarnation.

Before long, he blocked the golden rooster’s attacks too. It could no longer threaten him.

Soon, the rooster found itself suppressed, just like the ant and the Kunpeng before it. Its wounds piled on, and soon, all-encompassing sword force plunged it into the cycle of reincarnation.

Rage and astonishment were written all over the delicate young man’s face.

Three of his vicious creatures had been suppressed. This affected him too, and there were now numerous sword wounds all over his body!

“Go, go, go! Get him!” The delicate youth seemed to have gone all out. He repeatedly swung his sleeves, and one terrifying creature after another burst from its paintings and entered the battlefield.

All of them surrounded Su Yi!
