Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Scared and Fled

"...I don’t want you to lose faith in marriage because of my failed one." Mi Wan fell silent for a moment, then spoke softly from her heart.

She knew very well that there was a wound in Mi Jing’s heart. The past hurt had made her feel insecure and had even changed her entire view of love. So, Mi Wan didn’t want this matter, which had already caused her own pain, to bring any bad influence on Mi Jing.

"Ha, you really do worry a lot!" Mi Jing smiled helplessly and said, "Sister, can’t you think about yourself for a change? You worry about my feelings, you worry about mom and dad’s feelings, you worry about Xuanxuan’s feelings, but what about you? Are you content?"

"What good would discontent do? Should I fight to the bitter end with Song Guotao? I don’t want to turn into a resentful woman!" Mi Wan tugged at the corners of her mouth and produced a pale smile.

Of course, Mi Jing did not agree with Mi Wan continuing to entangle with Song Guotao. With things as they were, it was better to divorce, but the money and assets must be secured, and they must not be taken advantage of by Song Guotao and that shameless woman.

Gradually, Mi Jing calmed down. She pulled Mi Wan to the sofa to sit down and asked, "How will the property be divided in your divorce?"

"Split the savings in half. Of the two houses, the one bought before marriage stays with me, the one we live in now goes to him. The shares in the law firm also go to him. Xuanxuan stays with me." This was what Mi Wan had negotiated with Song Guotao. Though the division wasn’t fair, she was willing to accept it so that Xuanxuan could stay with her.

"Is this the result of Song Guotao negotiating Xuanxuan’s custody with you?" Mi Jing understood Mi Wan too well. She didn’t care about the money; Xuanxuan was her lifeline. So, for Xuanxuan’s sake, she was willing to suffer a loss.

"Yes." Mi Wan nodded gently.

Upon hearing this, Mi Jing felt her anger flare up again, "Bastard! What gives that scumbag the right to bargain with you?"

"Forget it, Jingjing, I don’t want to go to court, and I don’t want to make Xuanxuan choose between me and Song Guotao in court." Although Song Guotao wasn’t a competent husband, he was at least a decent father. Their decision to divorce had already caused some harm to Xuanxuan; Mi Wan didn’t want to hurt her daughter any more.

"Some things don’t have to be resolved by going to court. Sister, leave it to me. Just don’t agree to sign the divorce papers early for Song Guotao, or I really will be furious with you!"

"What are you planning to do?" Mi Wan asked, both puzzled and curious.

"It’s a temporary secret. But don’t worry, I know what I’m doing and I won’t do anything to hurt myself." Mi Jing smiled as she reassured Mi Wan.

"But..."

"Please don’t try to persuade me! I’ve already decided that I won’t let Song Guotao off easy!" Mi Jing interrupted directly, her eyes narrowing dangerously as she gritted her teeth.

Seeing Mi Jing’s resolute attitude, Mi Wan knew that no amount of persuasion would work, so she didn’t say more.

"Sister, this is for you." Mi Jing took out the diamond ring she had taken from Song Guotao and placed it in Mi Wan’s palm.

"What is this..."

"It belonged to that bastard, Song Guotao," Mi Jing replied.

"I don’t want it!"

Mi Wan clutched the ring, trying to give it back to Mi Jing, but Mi Jing stopped her. Mi Jing continued, "I don’t want you to keep it. Throw it away, pawn it, or sell it. Just don’t give it back to Song Guotao, and I’ll be fine with whatever you do."

Why should he use the money her sister helped him earn to please another woman?

Mi Jing was very angry. Song Guotao could forget about having a good time!

After their conversation, Mi Jing felt much better. The two sisters walked out together, and sharp-eyed Mi Wan was the first to see Shen Lingxing sitting by the counter.

"Wan."

As Mi Wan saw Shen Lingxing, he also saw her and Mi Jing.

Mi Wan smiled at Shen Lingxing, then glanced at the surprised Mi Jing by her side. Seeing that the two seemed to get along well, her smile grew deeper.

"Why are you still here?" She had told him to go home first. Looking at the smiling Shen Lingxing, Mi Jing asked, bewildered.

"Waiting for you." Shen Lingxing’s mouth moved slightly, and he looked at Mi Jing, smiling tenderly.

Seeing this, Mi Jing’s heart skipped a beat. What was that look? Why was he playing deep feelings? This could easily be misunderstood!

And indeed, Mi Wan was the first to misunderstand.

Her recently restrained smile reappeared. Seeing her brother-in-law being so gentle and considerate with her sister dissolved much of her worry.

"It’s getting late; I should head back. Lingxing, come over for dinner at our place sometime. See you next time." With that, Mi Wan turned to Mi Jing and gave an ambiguous smile, thinking she should hurry home and share this good news with Fang Qingru and Mi Zhihong, so they could be at ease.

Watching Mi Wan’s departing figure, Mi Jing cried silently in her heart—indeed a misunderstanding! But on second thought, this misunderstanding wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it could reduce her family’s worries.

In a short while, Mi Wan disappeared into the night, and Mi Jing withdrew her gaze, turning to Shen Lingxing, "Are you okay?"

This was her first time seeing him look at her with such an infatuated expression. Did he mistake her for someone else? Mi Jing wondered.

"What could possibly be wrong with me?" Shen Lingxing lifted the corner of his mouth in a slight smile and asked in return.

Of course! Mi Jing answered silently in her heart.

She thought he either had a momentary slip of the brain or something wrong with his eyes, but she couldn’t say such things out loud. She was grateful to him, remembering that he was her benefactor. So Mi Jing remained silent, and after a long while, squeezed out, "Let’s go home."

Shen Lingxing acted out of goodwill, but seeing Mi Jing’s unsteady steps mixed with a hurry, he knew she had misunderstood. His lingering look earlier was just to ease their emotions, but apparently, it had scared Mi Jing.

That night, Mi Jing couldn’t sleep.

But this time, it wasn’t because she was sleeping next to Shen Lingxing. Instead, her mind was busy thinking of ways to catch Song Guotao and that woman in the act.

"Dear..."

Suddenly, a slightly hoarse, sexy male voice interrupted her thoughts. Mi Jing’s heart tightened, unsure if she was hearing things or if Shen Lingxing had more impure thoughts in the middle of the night.

What to do now?

If he really had ideas, then wouldn’t she...

Mi Jing didn’t dare to think further. Her heart was beating wildly, and she held her breath, pretending to sleep!
