Chapter 66: A Puppy’s Silent Suffering, And Sian’s Peaceful days
The early morning air brimmed with the cheerful symphony of chirping birds, their melodies fluttering through the crisp atmosphere like a playful dance. Above, the sun ascended, its rays gently unfurling across the landscape, infusing everything with a soft warmth that felt almost like a tender embrace. The days were gradually lengthening, and the lingering chill of winter was beginning to soften, making way for the promise of change. Each passing sunrise brought a subtle rise in temperature, nudging the earth awake from its slumber. Buds on trees, swollen with potential, hinted at a vibrant resurrection, while the first stirrings of life began to emerge from the frosted ground. Nature, in its own delightful rhythm, was preparing to unveil the splendour of spring, painting the world anew with vibrant colours and fragrant blooms.
It was an unusually bright and pleasant day. Lan Qisheng, who had a rare day off, glanced at the white-haired figure lazily sprawled on the couch, watching an anime on the large TV in front of him.
Lan Qisheng sighed. He had been living with Sian for over two months now.
Almost a month had passed since the last incident at Heavens Hotel, but despite all the investigations, the evidence was scarce. He had learned that the mastermind behind the attack was a faction from Country A—opposing and rivalling the powerful families of Country B. Their goal had been to eliminate the heads of these families to seize control of the market, strengthening their own coalition so they would never have to bow to any force.
They had planned to become the main controllers of the international economy.
Unfortunately for them, their plan had failed.
As for their saviours—the masked figures—not a single trace had been left behind, not even the smallest clue pointing to their existence. It was as if they had never been there at all.
With no further leads, the case was closed after sentencing those directly involved in the incident.
Since then, the Xia family has become frequent visitors to his home. To be fair, they knew their boundaries, but if they ever stayed the night, what would they think if they saw him sharing a room with Sian?
Wouldn’t they accuse him of mistreating a teenager? Or worse—harassing a minor?
Even though Sian was far from a minor, the Xia family treated him like a ten-year-old kid.
Lan Qisheng shuddered every time Madam Xia came over and sat with Sian in the living room or the garden.
Thank goodness she never stayed long. She would chat with Sian, ask him about various things, and sometimes bring him homemade food or sweets. Then, after two hours or less, she would leave.
Well, he couldn’t say he had ever taken advantage of Sian in any way. Other than sleeping in the same bed, they hadn’t done anything—aside from the boy hugging him to sleep.
Don’t ask him how he manages to sleep at night... because he doesn’t.
Only God knows how he’s survived these past two months.
Who told him to fall in love with and start dating an ascetic like Sian?
If Sian heard Lan Qisheng’s thoughts at this moment, he would probably burst out laughing—no, he would roll on the floor like a fish out of water from laughing too hard.
Him?
An ascetic?
The truth was, the poor guy was simply enjoying his first real break in years. After spending so much time fighting, surviving wars, and constantly struggling to stay alive, he finally found a moment of peace. He could eat and sleep without fear, without worrying about the future, without calculating how to survive the next day, how much food he should ration, or how much blood he would have to spill...
And so, in his overwhelming happiness, he completely forgot that he was now dating the big puppy living in his house.
In fact, he even started treating the man like a warm, soft pillow to hug whenever the sun set and the moon rose.
[Lan Qisheng crying the corner.]
The so-called "ascetic" was lying on his stomach, bare feet raised in the air, swinging them back and forth freely.
Sian was wearing knee-length shorts because he thought the day was a bit too warm. As a result, his outfit for the day was minimal—a pink shirt and short white shorts. With his hair tied up in a high bun, he looked like nothing short of a delicious meal for the big puppy.
Unfortunately, the poor puppy was too afraid his meal would run away, so he chose to act like a gentleman instead and brought Sian a plate of freshly cut fruit.
Sian sat up, grabbed a piece of fruit, and sighed in contentment as he continued watching his anime.
Lan Qisheng glanced at the TV and found that it was airing Inuyasha.
It was an old anime about a high school girl who travelled to the ancient era after falling into a well in her house. There, she met the half-dog demon (Inuyasha) and joined him on a journey to collect the shards of the Shikon no Tama, which she had foolishly shattered herself...
The anime was decent—perfect for young girls who loved romantic adventures.
Sian had stumbled upon it by chance and had taken a liking to it. For the past few days, he had been watching several episodes daily.
"Are you really planning to spend the rest of your life locked inside, watching TV? The weather is great today. Why don’t we go out for a walk?" Lan Qisheng finally spoke after swallowing several times and mentally reciting a few Sufi poems he had recently learned.
Without taking his eyes off the screen, Sian replied, "No. I’d rather stay home. Did you forget what happened the last time I went out? I bet I have something like Detective Conan’s aura—trouble follows the moment I step outside. No, thank you. I prefer my peaceful life now."
"Don’t say that. There’s no such thing as a trouble-attracting aura. Last time was just... bad luck, that’s all," Lan Qisheng said, then quickly added, "Besides, don’t you love trying different kinds of food? A famous new restaurant just opened. Come on, let’s go."
The moment his weak spot was mentioned, Sian forgot all about his so-called Detective Conan aura and jumped to his feet.
He had originally planned to go out as he was, but a certain jar of vinegar racked his brain for different excuses, ultimately convincing Sian to change into something more conservative.
So, instead of his shorts, Sian put on jeans. However, he refused to change his pink shirt because he liked it, and since its sleeves reached just past his elbows, Lan Qisheng reluctantly let him keep it.
And so, the duo left in Lan Qisheng’s car, heading toward the restaurant.

Erato-san has something to say:
Unfortunately, dear Sian, you’re absolutely right. Your aura is a billion times worse than Conan Edogawa’s. Wherever you go, trouble and danger will surely follow.
This time will be no different.
Didn’t I give you an entire month to rest?
Well, a little warm-up won’t hurt, right?
Don’t worry—it’s just dealing with a tea whore and an idiot CEO.
