Chapter 143: 143 Selene Introduction.

Selene stood with a poised posture. Her long, wavy blue hair cascaded down her back. Each strand shimmered under the sun, with parted bangs, just enough to reveal her beautiful face and clear blue eyes that reflected gracefulness.

Despite her calm atmosphere and appearance, there was a latent power hidden beneath that facade; it was subtle yet present like a raging tide was about to crash.

On her left chest, above the pocket, a tiny gold medal, which was a symbol of authority within the academy, shone with authority.

The students stilled their breath, watching the figure who exuded much gracefulness in every movement and stirred something deep inside.

However, different from others, Jin knitted his brows for some reason.

First, he recognized the girl as one of the heroines in the game, Allen’s partner for life.

The second thing that baffled him was that the girl was gazing at his side, not toward Allen. This made him unsettled inside.

"What is the occasion here?".

Jin threw his gaze aside, watching Dannan, who accidently met his gaze, nodding.

"As you know, the martial art festival was closed and I assumed you guys would participate in it, except Lily who was a healer, of course".

"Yeah, and what about it?".

The seniors’ faces reeled back; they were taken aback by Jin’s casual response toward a teacher.

Not only once but twice, he did something unbefitting as a student, but the old man was unbothered and continued his explanation.

"I have a thought, why don’t you guys get some variation in sparring".

"I see". Jin rubbed his chin and glanced at the seniors who watched him in shock. "That’s definitely a good experience".

Jin turned to Silvia, who nodded her head, and Allen, who gulped his saliva. He noticed the white-haired boy was clenching his fist tight.

"Silvia, Allen, you guys up for another round?".

They shifted to him, nodding with conviction in their expression.

"I’m ready".

"Me too".

Silvia and Allen nodded while taking out their wooden swords, respectively.

Jin moved his attention to Dannan, raising a thumb on his hand, and turned back toward the field.

"Please wait".

As the students started to follow him, a melodious voice that soothed everyone’s heart echoed, prompting Jin and others to its source.

They halted in their tracks, watching the senior girl named Selene reach out to her chest and announce.

"Are you perhaps, Jin Midnight? The first year, who got first in every test?".

The boy raised his brows and let his gaze sweep over the girl’s head to toe and said.

"Yes, how do you know me, senior?".

"Fufu, I know every student in this school". Selene giggled behind her raised hand.

"I see, that’s impressive".

Jin felt bemused, exhaling in wonder that there was someone in the academy who remembered all the students’ names and faces, not only in her generation but even in the lower grades.

His cheek twitched, and Jin felt an intense bloodlust directed at him. It came from the male senior with a tall stature standing behind Selene.

He was an attractive boy, wearing glasses and slightly taller than Jin. His pale green hair was tied into a ponytail, for it was long enough to reach his back.

As someone sensitive toward animosity, Jin inhaled and suppressed the emotion in his heart.

"What do you want, senior?".

Selene held her breath, noticing the shift in Jin’s demeanor. She gulped, feeling a stifling pressure that slowly suffocated her.

"...I want to see your abilities as the same first ranker".

"No, not you girl, but him". Jin shook his head and pointed his finger ahead. "The guy with glasses and green hair, do you need something from me?".

"!?". The boy and other seniors’ eyes narrowed on hearing Jin’s rude remark regarding their leader, Selene.

After being mentioned, the boy’s brows furrowed as all eyes were gathered on his presence. He pushed the glasses up and exhaled sharply.

He smiled thinly, "As a Junior, I advise you to have respect in your conduct against a senior and teacher".

Jin tilted his head slightly, feeling the weight in those words the senior said. But his face remained neutral, devoid of any emotion.

"Respect is earned, not demanded".

The palace turned silent as Jin’s words rang like a distant echo. A flicker of killing intent touched the air.

Unlike other students who gulped their saliva and were oblivious to the happening.

Jin felt it on his skin; a chilling sensation crawled down his spine, threatening him with a sharp blade that was placed on his neck.

Although Jin received clear animosity from the senior, his tone and behavior were firm and unwavering.

With a frown on her face, Selene raised a hand. "Everyone, stop this improper behaviour. I will not tolerate it".

Selene’s solemn voice broke the tension in the air as the mist of intimidation dissipated into nothing.

The seniors breathed a sigh of relief, wincing at her voice that seemed disappointed.

"We were sorry".

"Honestly, you guys are such a pain". Selene exhaled and turned toward the junior, bowing her head slightly.

"I’m sorry for the rude behaviour we show, especially to you, junior Jin".

All eyes gathered at him, but Jin shrugged his shoulders and turned his back from the seniors.

"Junior Jin?".

Jin stomped the ground hard, halting his steps. "...What?".

"About my earlier request, how about it?".

"...". Jin twisted his neck to peek at his side, watching the girls in his group nod. "Fine, let’s have a spar, senior".

He summoned his bokuto and headed toward the middle of the field, standing straight while gazing at the faraway distance.

His behavior incited another animosity from the senior. Their faces knitted in fury, but with a single glance from Selene, they held back their tongue.

’Hmph, are they a dog or something?’. Jin scoffed in his heart, turning his attention to the girl who held a wand and stood before him.

"Are you ready?".

Selene asked as her surrounding area turned damp by the mist that gathered on her command.

Jin tapped the primal mana in the environment, letting it clash with the aura from his opponent.

He inhaled deeply, making it stay in his veins and spread evenly to his body. His body glowed in green, albeit faintly.

[Elemental Enhancement activated]

The air shimmered. Tiny particles like dust glittered in the air. Green and blue clashed together with intense heat.

They molded together to create sparks that raised the tension in the area.

Jin exhaled and prepared his upper stance, standing straight while holding the bokuto in one hand.

"I’m ready".

Selene raised her wand, and five magic circles glowed in ominous blue generated water balls that were morphed and turned into a lance.

It pulsed with power, spinning furiously like a gale.

Jin tightly clenched the hilt. The wind started to coil around the bokuto like a sleeping dragon.

"Go". Selene flicked her wrist. Five water lances flew straight at Jin’s side, unstoppable.

But the boy was calm; Jin inhaled, and as the water entered his blade range. He swung his bokuto diagonally.

Once the lance contacted the bokuto, the wind that compiled around it pushed the trajectory, missing its target.

His hand blurred, and the five water lances stabbed the ground behind him. Jin was unharmed.

A wave of murmurs spread around the students and seniors, especially the hostile ones.

Their brows raised in shock, seeing the flawless spell of their leaders being deflected easily. Even though Selene was still not serious, a first-year who did that without blinking was enough to stir their heart about Jin’s assessment.

Unlike the senior, Silvia stopped breathing after seeing Jin’s movement. It was sublime, with no wasted effort.

Her hand unconsciously formed a fist, ’Jin, how powerful you can be!?’.

On the other hand, Allen gasped. His jaws dropped to the floor in amazement. ’Amazing’.

Selene narrowed her eyes and stomped the ground hard, creating a giant magic circle that shone above Jin.

"Waterfall". Selene swung her wand, making the magic circle glow.

Jin calmly looked up, and his emerald eyes flashed, searching for its core. ’Right there’.

He imbued the bokuto with mana and swung it vertically, sending an invisible slash from compressed wind that cleaved the magic circle in two.

Seeing the spectacle, Selene and the senior’s mouths agape, witnessing the magic circle slowly divide and shatter into thin particles.

The boy fixed his stance and stood straight under the vast skies, watching everything with his aloof expression.

Selene gulped. Her hand couldn’t stop trembling as she saw the earlier scene.

For the first time, there was someone who could cut her magic circle. A feat that should be impossible if the one who did it does not know the implementation of the spell itself.

They must know where the core of the circle was to be able to do that.

Two possibilities that she could think of. First was luck; while Jin swung his wooden sword, he managed to slash its core luckily.

Second, he was a master in swordsmanship who could handle it with instinct alone.

But, looking at him, the boy was holding a wooden sword from the east, not a real sword forged in blazing ember.

"This...". Selene raised her palm to cover her smirk. ’Interesting’.

’Fufu, let’s increase the difficulty for a bit’.

The girl couldn’t help but be excited about facing a strong opponent that could drive her into a corner.

It was proof of room for growth in the future.

Selene twirled her wrist, and the wand in hand glowed in blue. "Show me what you have, Junior Jin".
