Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle-Chapter 594: Future Plan

"From Project Z, then followed by Project Genesis… Now, there are three more." Shane was shocked as he realized that the world government seemed to really know what they had to do.

Right now, he couldn't help but think that the spread of the virus was actually deliberate instead of accident. After all, instead of aiming to eliminate the Zombies, they decided to weaponize it and advance their research even further.

[ Project Prometheus – Cybernetic Integration ]

"The fusion of human tissue with advanced nanotechnology." Shane muttered as he read the information about the Project.

As he continued to read, he realized that they had a decent plan to make this happen. There are three phases in completing cybernetic integration.

The first phase was the Neural Weave… It was a part of the research that enhanced reaction speed to near-precognitive levels of the subjects.

The second phase was the Onyx Bone Lacing. They would reinforce skeletons that would allow them to withstand even tank rounds.

Finally, the third phase was called the Phoenix Organ System. It was a method to allow the subject to obtain self-regenerating organs that heal fatal wounds in minutes.

"With Aegis Serum and Prometheus augments, a single soldier can rival an army. Deployment pending final field tests." Shane muttered as he read the last part of this project.

If this project was truly done, he couldn't imagine how the previous world government had actually lost against the Zombies.

After all, if those soldiers had undergone the Cybernetic Integration, he believed that those High-Tier Zombies wouldn't be able to win at all.

Shane then paused for a moment as he decided to use his Heightened Senses to check the situation outside. With his senses, he confirmed that everyone was doing fine eliminating the Zombies around and getting experience points they very much needed.

"Alright… Enjoy those experience points. You should all just level up quickly." Shane muttered as he confirmed that instead of struggling, the group seemed to be enjoying their hunt.

Well, it had been quite some time since the last Zombie Wave. It means that they could no longer farm a lot of experience and level up quickly.

However, the Zombie Lord Territories were always filled with Zombies and it would allow them to obtain not just numerous loot but also experience points.

Anyway, Shane continued to check the other projects as he had a feeling that Eve, the one in the cryo pod, had most likely undergone these transformations.

[ Project Eclipse – Controlled Viral Mutation ]

This project was actually stamped with a biohazard symbol. This had obviously intrigued Shane, so he swiftly browsed through the information.

Apparently, it contained research on weaponizing the Z-Virus which was quite similar to how they created the Super Soldier Serum.

However, it also had various phases and was quite different in their subjects. The Super Soldier Serums may target the humans but the Project Eclipse was targeting the Zombies to become controllable.

After reading through it, he realized that they were creating Reaper Strain. A variant that targets specific DNA to make this happen.

'So does it mean that not all types of Zombies can be controlled?' Shane mused.

The second phase was then called the Valkyrie Protocol. This experiment involves the infection of subjects but halts decay, creating immortal, obedient undead. It seemed too good to be true but Shane just continued.

In the last phase, Shane read about the Necroforge. It seemed to be a difficult project as it aims to reanimate dead tissues or Zombies themselves as combat drones, programmable via neural chips…

"Caution: Valkyrie subjects exhibit residual memories. May lead to rebellion. Recommend memory wipes pre-deployment."

This was the last part that Shane was able to read through this project and it certainly shows how dangerous this project could be.

Lastly, Shane looked at the last project.

[ Project Icarus – Genetic Ascension ]

"Transhuman evolution." Shane muttered as he saw the first part of the Project's introduction. Just from those words, he already had an idea of what this Genetic Ascension means.

Well, it wasn't too difficult to imagine considering how the World Government was trying to take advantage of the Apocalypse.

There were also several phases in this project and Shane could tell that they were really impressive plans that could really work.

The first phase was called the "Adonis Code". It basically rewrites human DNA to eliminate disease, aging, and fatigue. It sounded too good to be true but the researchers may really have found the answer.

The next phase was the "Titanblood". They seemed to have created synthetic hormones that increase muscle density by 1000%.

Finally, there was what they called the "Icarus Gene". It allows photosynthetic energy absorption, removing the need for food or water.

In the last part of it, Shane read what the Director of this project wrote.

[ Director Scheider's Log: ]

"Humanity is obsolete. The future belongs to those we create."

"What a bold claim…" Shane muttered as he couldn't help but feel impressed at how they really tried to escape the limit of humanity.

No matter what, it was still an incredible feat to achieve this.

Nonetheless, Shane decided to just stay here for some time as he wanted to open Eve's pod after the others were done.

If possible, he wanted Shenlong or Raze to stay with him just in case something unexpected happened.

In the meantime, as Shane was browsing through the records he found in the secret lab, Raze and her group heard a scurrying, skittering sound approaching them.

Then, Raze noticed the Zombies coming for them this time after using the Dragon Eyes that Roan shared with her.

"It's the Licker Zombies!" She warned.

Just from their names, Licker Zombies had elongated tongues that could lash out like whips… These tongues weren't soft either and it was as if they were made of iron…

Of course, they were also High-Tier Zombies, so their powers could not be underestimated at all.

"They're fast ones!" Raze said as she saw a tongue coming at her. She immediately ducked to avoid it and it whizzed past her head.

Kale then moved swiftly and used his warhammer to strike the lashing appendages.

Thud!

As soon as he hit one of the tongues, he realized that they weren't the weakness of the Licker Zombies. It was simply too tough to break.

However, he also knew that if they no longer had those nasty tongues, they wouldn't be able to attack.

"Don't aim for the tongues! It's like made of steel--"

As he said this, however, Shenlong was already in front and grabbed three tongues at the same time… Then, Shenlong used his strength to pull those three poor Licker Zombies and smashed them to the ground, three times.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Just like that, the three Zombies were disoriented and were easily finished off by the nearby Survivors.

"That's possible too…" Kale muttered as he wasn't sure if he had the strength to do that. Although he was also a Legendary Recruit, he excels in using weapons in combat and not his bare hands after all.

"Ha!"

Suddenly, Nia summoned barbed roots, entangling a couple of Lickers mid-leap, while Vernon picked them off with precise headshots with his rifle…

Thankfully, the skulls of the Licker Zombies could still be penetrated by his bullets, so he should be able to obtain a lot of experience points with these kills.

Within seconds, as the group worked together, the pack of Licker Zombies was reduced to twitching meat.

After that, all the teams of Survivors united and pushed forward, clearing room after room, until they reached the fortress's southernmost courtyard.

There, a final swarm of Zombies awaited them.

There was a mix of every zombie type and they seemed to be guarding something.

This was quite confusing since there shouldn't be anything more that must be protected in this place, especially after the Zombie Lord was eliminated.

"Weird…" Raze muttered as she tried to find something. However, it was difficult with all the Zombies around.

"Well, we just have to find out what's going on…" Tundra said as he signaled for everyone to back away. He planned to blow the place completely…

Soon, he threw numerous stones with planted bombs on them to clear out the Zombie Horde…

However, to his surprise, the stones he threw were shot by Spitter Zombies!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The bombs exploded mid-air.

It certainly did some damage to the Zombies at the front but it wasn't enough.

Then, at this time, Roan took to the skies and bathed the horde in fire…

Roar!

There were Tyrant Zombies, Stone Zombies, Jumper Zombies, and others in the horde and with that fire coming from a true Dragon, they weren't able to endure the heat...

However, Smoker Zombies soon started appearing as they released a cloud of smoke blocking everyone's vision.

Unfortunately, it was just their desperate struggle as Otto and Sona combined their magic, freezing and burning the zombies in alternating waves…

As long as they knew the general direction of the Zombies, it was enough for them to simply use their spells to destroy that area…

"At this rate, we won't be able to know what they were trying to protect…" Raze muttered as she saw the attack.
