Great Demon Sun Wukong-Chapter 903 - 788: Not Seeing Chang’an
Chapter 903 -788: Not Seeing Chang’an
Although Sun Wukong admitted to lying, most of what he said to the Annihilation Nine Headed Serpent was true. It is true that the Primordial Honor took the little monkey to a place to absorb its spirit, but Sun Wukong didn’t mention one thing: in order to absorb the little monkey, it would take the Primordial Honor a full Chinese hour. Otherwise, he cannot digest the little monkey’s spirit. After leaving the Demon Spirit Butcher, the Primordial Honor discarded his physical body and absorbed spirits using only his soul and essence, which is much harder than when he had a physical body.
Previously, Sun Wukong advised everyone not to go into the dangerous places of the Fallen Tomb because he claimed the Primordial Honor was unlikely to fuse in such perilous locations, which was a lie. Since Sun Wukong knew the Primordial Honor needed a Chinese hour to absorb spirits and was vulnerable during the process, the Primordial Honor would definitely know this too. Thus, he would not only hide but also choose a place where even if discovered, the enemies couldn’t approach him quickly. Such safe havens are rare, and the perilous spots within the Fallen Tomb are the best choice.
Over a million years, the little monkey had become the Tomb Spirit of the Fallen Tomb, so it knew everything within the tomb, from safe to dangerous zones. No one was more aware than the little monkey. Under the threat of the Primordial Honor, the little monkey likely wouldn’t be too persistent. Hence, finding a fiercely perilous location wouldn’t be a difficult task at all. In addition, with the strong power of the Primordial Honor and the little monkey’s status as the Tomb Spirit, entering the most treacherous zones would be easy for him. Sun Wukong’s reason to dissuade everyone from entering dangerous areas was to prevent encountering the Primordial Honor inside.
While the Primordial Honor is indeed weak when absorbing the little monkey, he is aware of this himself and will certainly set heavy formations and traps around him, which would be deadly to others. Sun Wukong intends for everyone to find the Primordial Honor, so they won’t be involved in the final battle, naturally hoping there’s no more casualties.
As for the Primordial Honor’s exact location, Sun Wukong had already discovered it. Upon awakening, he scanned the entire Fallen Tomb using the Heaven and Earth Fire Eyes. After truly absorbing the Three Spirits Flower, his Heaven and Earth Fire Eyes finally advanced to the peak stage, making all movements within the Fallen Tomb impossible to escape his eyes. Therefore, he knows the precise location of the Primordial Honor, and his lack of urgency is intentional. Although he is confident in defeating the Primordial Honor, if someone else could clear the obstacles for them, Sun Wukong would see that as a welcome relief.
“Fool, why are you so eager this time? Aren’t you afraid of being controlled again?” Flames danced in Sun Wukong’s eyes, clearly observing a group of people in a certain location. Based on their pace, they still needed a quarter-hour to reach the canyon. So going now would be too soon. At the very least, they should wait until the majority of traps and formations are destroyed before proceeding. This time, Sun Wukong plans to reap the benefits like a fisherman watching for clams and snipes to fight.
For the first time in battle, Sun Wukong holds the upper hand. Now, he possesses the power to command everything. Having finally transformed from a pawn to the chess master, he indulges in teasing Zhu Bajie. “Zhu Bajie puffed up his belly and said: ‘I, old Zhu, was once the Tianpeng Marshal. Now in a battle concerning the universe’s survival, naturally, I can’t lack scenes of old Zhu. Moreover, the Primordial Honor is indeed despicable, controlling me multiple times. Not laying a few hoes on him leaves me with a lingering grudge.'”
After speaking, Zhu Bajie patted the Thunder Fire Scorching Flame Cannon he held, saying: “My companion Cuilan also said she would avenge me. It wasn’t nearly enough when we took out that fake last time.” Hearing Zhu Bajie’s words, Sun Wukong was stunned; it took him a while to realize that Cuilan referred to the Thunder Fire Scorching Flame Cannon. Cuilan certainly has been burdensome for this Thunder Fire Scorching Flame Cannon.
“Alright then, let you fight to your fill later. Alright, time is about right, we should set off.” As soon as Sun Wukong spoke, the White Dragon suddenly flickered and transformed into a pure white horse, but this time the white horse’s forehead bore an additional golden streak. Sun Wukong was a little surprised, not expecting the White Dragon to suddenly turn into a white horse, but quickly adjusted with eyes full of sentiment. Zhu Bajie patted the buttocks of the white horse that White Dragon transformed into, saying: “You should just become a golden dragon, much more majestic.” The White Dragon ignores him and only kicks backward. Zhu Bajie quickly dodges.
Tang Sanzang watched Sun Wukong and the others play around. Seeing the White Dragon transform into a white horse, he seemed to become sentimental, his eye corners a bit moist. “Wukong.” Tang Sanzang stood among the white flowers, tidied his kasaya, and said to Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong instantly replied: “Master, your disciple is here.” “Help me up on the horse, let’s set off.” Sun Wukong immediately agreed: “Okay.” He quickly stepped forward, assisted Tang Sanzang, and then helped him up onto the white horse’s back.
“Bajie, Wujing, protect the Master from both sides. We’re going to battle the demon.” Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing also gladly obliged, carrying weapons on either side, walking to the sides of the White Dragon Horse. Sun Wukong withdrew the Jingu Bang, stepped forward a few paces, and led the White Dragon Horse, taking the first step.
Back then, it was the same: holding the White Dragon Horse, Bajie and Wujing protected the Master, step by step, they walked from Chang’an all the way to the Western Paradise. They encountered many people and demons along the way—some good, some bad, some innocent, some compelled, and some driven by their own motives. In any case, due to meeting these people, many events took place.
Sun Wukong believes if someone recorded all these things in detail, it would certainly be a very captivating novel, an incredibly compelling story, far more interesting than the scriptures Master enjoys reading. If indeed there’s someone who wrote such a story, what should it be called?
The Story of Four Monks? No, that’s inappropriate; it would exclude the White Dragon. The Story of Five Monks? Still not right; feels like a bedtime story for children. Five Monks Going to the Western Paradise? No, doesn’t sound grand enough. Think of the dignified Great Sage Equalling Heaven being referred to as a monk; it lacks prestige.
How about a story of one monk and four demons going to the Western Paradise; it’s too long, longer than my esteemed name.
Perhaps, just call it Journey to the West, for heading west.
Didn’t expect back then, leading the white horse with Master and junior disciples, this journey would continue to the present.
Nevertheless, it is finally coming to an end; after it ends, should we and Master return to the Western Paradise then walk back to Chang’an? Though likely now, Chang’an is no longer the Chang’an it once was! (To be continued.
