Chapter 101: A Kiss Under Water

"Let’s continue somewhere you won’t choke on water, but on..."

Riven shook his head with a stubborn gleam in his eyes. "I’m not going anywhere. I’m here to bathe, and that’s all I’m gonna do," he declared, crossing his arms as if daring Soren to challenge him.

He knew that Soren could easily haul him out of the tub if he wanted to, but Riven wasn’t in the mood to give in. After everything that happened, he just wanted to soak in the warm water and let his mind relax.

Soren raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced by Riven’s determined stance. He took a step closer, his gaze softening as he took in the tired but resilient look on his little wolf’s face. Riven gave him an unimpressed look, not backing down in the slightest.

Soren didn’t argue, though. He just let out a low chuckle and wrapped his arms around Riven, pulling him into a warm, secure hug. Riven stiffened at first but soon relaxed into the embrace, his head resting against Soren’s chest.

"Fine," Soren murmured against Riven’s hair, his voice low and soothing. "I’ll bathe with you."

Riven blinked up at him, almost like he hadn’t expected Soren to give in so easily. "You... you will?"

Soren smirked, brushing his lips against Riven’s forehead before answering. "Of course. Can’t let you do anything reckless in here on your own. Someone’s gotta make sure you don’t drown."

"Drowning in a bathtub? You hurt me, how less do you think of me?" Riven fake cried.

"Uh-huh," Soren replied with a teasing tone, clearly not buying it. "You’re reckless even when you’re supposed to be resting. Someone’s gotta look after you."

Riven clicked his tongue but didn’t pull away from the embrace. He couldn’t deny that the warmth of Soren’s body against his was oddly comforting. Maybe it was because Soren smelled familiar and safe, or maybe it was just because he was still feeling worn out from earlier. Either way, he didn’t bother fighting it.

After a moment, Riven wriggled a bit, trying to get comfortable, and glanced up at Soren with a mischievous glint in his eyes. He didn’t want to admit it, but he liked being this close, especially when Soren wasn’t acting all possessive and crazy. But then an idea sparked, and a wicked grin spread across his face.

Without warning, Riven scooped up a handful of water and splashed it right at Soren’s face. Soren blinked in surprise, water dripping from his hair and face as he stared down at Riven in disbelief.

"You little—" Soren growled, but Riven was already laughing, the sound light and carefree.

"I got you!" Riven announced triumphantly, sticking out his tongue like a brat.

Soren raised an eyebrow and wiped his face with the back of his hand. "Oh, so that’s how it is?" He took a menacing step forward, and Riven immediately held up his hands defensively, eyes widening.

"Wait, wait! Don’t you dare!" Riven warned, trying to scoot backward, but the bathtub didn’t give him much room to escape.

Soren smirked devilishly, clearly relishing the way his little wolf looked like a trapped animal. "You think you can get away with that, huh?"

"If you splash water on me, then it’ll get into my ears! And then I will get sick, and then you can’t touch me for those days!" Riven talked for his dear life!

Soren wasn’t having it. He scooped up a hefty amount of water and dumped it right over Riven’s head.

Riven gasped, his hair plastered to his face as he spluttered in disbelief. "Soren!"

Soren couldn’t help but chuckle at the indignant look on Riven’s face. "What? Just getting even."

Riven wiped his eyes and glared up at him, his lips twitching despite himself. "You’re evil," he muttered, though his tone was more playful than angry.

He reached for Riven’s fluttering ears and pinched them a little before asking, "Are you mad at me, little wolf?" No, he was not actually asking if Riven was mad. If he admitted to it, he was in for a cruel session. Soren would say, ’Since you are already mad, I’ll do what I want." And have his way with him!

Riven’s cheeks flushed, and he huffed, trying to hide how flustered he was. But he wasn’t about to let Soren know. He shook his head, water droplets flinging from his hair and onto Soren. Riven smirked and said, "No, I’m not mad at all."

Soren lunged forward, grabbing Riven around the waist and hoisting him up slightly. Riven yelped, arms instinctively wrapping around Soren’s shoulders to keep himself steady. He hadn’t expected to be lifted so easily, and his feet dangled just above the bottom of the tub.

"What are you doing? Put me down!" Riven complained, trying to squirm out of Soren’s grip.

"No. Unlike that dog mate of yours, you cannot order me around." Soren warned, but in a playful way.

Riven frowned, knowing Soren was referring to Ronan, and felt his cheeks heat up. "You- You are just-" he muttered, but there was no real bite to his words.

In one swift motion, Soren released him, dropping him straight into the water. Riven barely had time to react before he was submerged, the warm water rushing over his head.

He opened his eyes, blinking through the slight sting as he found himself surrounded by bubbles and the faint light streaming from the bathroom’s lanterns. Before he could push himself upright, Soren dove in right after him, his powerful movements barely disturbing the water.

Riven’s eyes widened as Soren swam closer, the world around them growing blurry but undeniably intimate. Suddenly, Soren’s hands were on his face, cupping his cheeks with surprising gentleness. Before Riven could even register what was happening, Soren leaned in and pressed his lips against Riven’s in a deep, consuming kiss.

Underwater, the kiss felt surreal—like a dream. The water had cooled a little by now, and it was a pleasant contrast to the heated kiss.
